Why is Rihanna in Belgium this weekend? Hint: Smurfs
BRUSSELS (AP) — Belgium rolled out the blue carpet Saturday for Rihanna and other stars who turned out for the world premiere of the new Smurf movie.
Rihanna produced ″Smurfs″ and voices Smurfette in the summer family film, a live-action animated reboot that takes the little creatures on a Smurfette-led rescue mission to save Papa Smurf.
At Saturday's showing in Brussels, the visibly pregnant Grammy winner chatted with children, linked arms with someone dressed as her cartoon alter-ego, and joined the audience arm in arm with A$AP Rocky.
Film director Chris Miller held Smurf toys and other cast members at the premiere included James Corden and Dan Levy. Many of the guests wore a shade of Smurf-ish blue.
The movie premieres in the U.S. on July 18.
Belgian comics artist Peyo created the Smurfs — known here as ″Schtroumpfs″ — and the Belgian capital embraced the premiere with a weekend of events.
It took place in central Brussels, not far from a Smurf museum. The city's famed Mannekin Pis statue was dressed for the occasion as No Name Smurf. The city's Grand-Place held Smurf-themed events all weekend, and tourist buses and train cars were decorated in blue.

Outside were members of the brand's unofficial posse, generally dressed in baggy jeans, T-shirts, and hat and headscarf combos, chanted 'Obligatory', the show's name, as VIPs began to filter in while the crowd waited. The runway was dotted with several more 'metal detectors' as the show was a nod to the recent legal kerfuffles Rocky had experienced and expressed through uniforms and institutional dress while simultaneously raising 'ghetto' design tropes to luxury. This idea was furthered in the A$AP Rocky soundtrack that played. Reflecting his legal ordeal were suits worn with bullet-proof vests, a simple double-breasted white suit tightly fitted on a female model, and male models in various suiting accessorized with the legal-size paper and folders. In nods to his uptown New York upbringing, the streetwear side of things included layered looks like parkers worn off the shoulders, flannel styles, often as a skirt over pants, baggy pants with bandanas hanging off them, usually accessorized with a 40 in brown paper bag, only this time with a rose sticking out of the bottle neck. Denver zoo closes early over the weekend to prevent wild teens from pulling off TikTok-inspired ‘takeover' trend
The Denver Zoo closed early on Saturday ahead of a planned teen 'takeover' of the park that went viral on TikTok as part of an alarming trend among youths that is wreaking havoc in public spaces across the country. Zoo staff decided to shutter the park to prevent the so-called 'takeover' before it could happen. They weren't entirely sure what the coup they put a stop to would've looked like, but knew they didn't want to see a repeat of others that have cropped up around the country this summer. In just one week, two separate TikTok-fueled pop-ups spurred hundreds of teens to shut down a mall and a carnival that were mere miles apart. In Edison, New Jersey, more than 300 youth turned the Menlo Park Mall into their personal playground, forcing innocent shoppers to take shelter inside stores as fights started breaking out. The following week, another takeover destroyed a carnival in a mall parking lot just 2.5 short miles away from the Edison site. The carnival had tried to impose an 18-and-up limit for after-hours, but the teenagers weren't having it and started scaling fences to get inside.
