Man loses RM500k to fake investment scam in Sungai Bakap
Penang deputy police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said the 53-year-old, a former warehouse assistant supervisor in Singapore, had come across a Facebook ad promoting stock investments on March 21 and later contacted a woman who identified herself as 'Liane'.
'She introduced him to an investment called 'Silver Peak CP' through a mobile app that promised quick and high returns. Attracted by the offer, the victim downloaded the app and started investing,' he said in a statement today.
Between March 22 and June 24, the victim made 22 transactions into six different bank accounts provided by the suspect, totalling RM500,000. After that, he could no longer access the app.
Mohd Alwi said police are investigating and working to track down the syndicate.
The case is being probed under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. - Bernama

JEMPOL: A 15-year-old teenager has been arrested by police on suspicion of stealing two packets of black pepper sauce and two packets of mayonnaise worth RM41 from a supermarket in Bandar Seri Jempol. District police chief Superintendent Norhisham Mustapar said the incident took place at 7pm last Friday. He said the suspect was initially detained by the supermarket's security guard after staff noticed the teenager frequently entering and exiting the premises while carrying a sling bag. "Preliminary investigations showed the suspect is still a student. He has been released on police bail after his statement was recorded. "The investigation papers will be referred to the deputy public prosecutor soon to decide on the next course of action. "The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft in a building and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955," he added.

Federal govt allocates RM8.79b to roll out 86 projects under 12MP in Sabah
KOTA KINABALU: The federal government, through the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry, has allocated RM8.79 billion until June 2025 to implement 86 development projects in Sabah. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who is also the energy transition and water transformation minister, said the total allocation will be disbursed under the Fifth Rolling Plan (RP5) of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP). "Sabah has received a fairly large allocation from the federal government, it is our commitment to resolve two key issues in Sabah, namely, water and energy. "Because without energy and water, there can be no economic growth in Sabah," he said when speaking at the ministry Engagement Session with Sabah Media in 2025 here tonight. He said the Madani government is always striving to ensure that Sabah continues to prosper together as a big Malaysian family. Therefore, Sabah's progress is not only the responsibility of this state, but of the entire nation. "With strong federal-state relations, we can build a more prosperous, just as well as sustainable state and country, with the support of a free and trustworthy media and a united people," he said. Meanwhile, Fadillah also said the engagement session was intended as a platform for the media to better understand the role of ministry and agencies under its auspices. Singapore: Driver arrested after elderly woman dies in car crash at Geylang pasar malam

A 66-year-old woman died in the accident. The police said they were alerted to the incident at Block 52A Circuit Road at about 11.45pm. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by a Singapore Civil Defence Force paramedic. The car's driver, a 40-year-old man, was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and driving without a licence and insurance. Police investigations are ongoing.
