Galthie defends second-string France squad for New Zealand tour
France coach Fabien Galthie said on Tuesday he had no choice but to select a second-choice squad for this summer's games which include July's three Test series in New Zealand.
Galthie will be without the likes of front-line players such as winger Louis Bielle-Biarrey, full-back Thomas Ramos and No 8 Gregory Alldritt, who are rested after a gruelling club campaign.

The 56-year-old has named a 28-man squad for Saturday's non-capped friendly with England, excluding players involved in this weekend's Top 14 semi-finals.
Captain Antoine Dupont is also absent, after suffering a serious knee injury in February.
"We don't have a choice other than picking players who have finished their seasons," Galthie told reporters.
"It's an opportunity for us to work with the best players available.
"There's a decision at the end of the season with the freshness and availability of players," he added.
In-form Bielle-Biarrey has played 29 games so far this season for club and country while All Blacks captain Scott Barrett has featured 14 times for the Crusaders, who face the Chiefs in the Super Rugby Pacific final on Saturday.

"They started their domestic season in February and are finishing it now," former France captain Galthie said.
"They're starting a period uniquely for the national team.
"You have to be informative and try to explain the obligations which are linked to our season schedule.
"We have no other solution. I think it's quite clear.
"Or the New Zealanders can help us to reinvent our domestic season's schedule.
"It's the particularities of each country," he added.
Galthie will add up to 12 players to his squad on Sunday but without players who have reached next weekend's Top 14 final.
Following the decider he will have the option to include a further five players to his set-up for the New Zealand series starting on July 5.

Robertson relieved as All Blacks survive fierce France challenge
All Blacks coach Scott Roberton was relieved his team "found a way" to stave off a fierce challenge from France, pulling away late to win the third Test 29-19 on Saturday and complete a series clean sweep. New Zealand took the lead for the first time with only 20 minutes remaining in Hamilton as an under-strength France faded in their last game of a long season, eventually conceding four tries to one. Robertson commended the "gallant" performance of the tourists, who had left most of their best players at home. "They've come over here to our beautiful winter and put on a performance like that. They'd be very proud," Robertson told reporters. "We'll be better for the experience as a group. Ten points down at one stage and we found a way, played some really good footy and we're better for it." France's bigger forward pack and greater physical commitment helped them dominate the first half. The visitors led 10-0 early and then 19-10 on the stroke of half-time before centre Anton Lienert-Brown scored a key try to reduce the deficit at the break to two points. The hosts played with greater energy in the second half, keeping France scoreless and creating tries for forwards Du'Plessis Kirifi and Brodie McAlister, who were both making their first Test starts. All Blacks down France, secure three-Test series sweep
Replacement hooker Brodie McAlister has scored a 76th-minute try in a memorable Test debut for New Zealand to seal a 29-19 win over France in Hamilton and complete a 3-0 series sweep. Jordie Barrett set up the winner on Saturday with a line break in front of the posts, before passing back inside to McAlister who slid over the line in front of delighted home fans at Waikato Stadium. "To debut here, it's pretty awesome and I'm pretty proud to put the black jersey on and get to work with the brothers," said the Chiefs hooker. "It's been quite a journey (for me), a lot of setbacks, a lot of resilience." With his brother Scott and Beauden out with injuries, Barrett represented the family with distinction off the bench. He made a try-saving tackle near the hour mark to hold off the valiant French, who battled in vain to break a win drought in New Zealand dating back to Dunedin in 2009. Though France arrived in the country without a slew of their top players, they were a handful for Scott Robertson's All Blacks, barring the 43-17 second Test drubbing in Wellington. Robertson fielded a much-changed line-up in Hamilton and was forced into a late shuffle when No.8 Luke Jacobson broke down in the warm-up. He made way for Du'Plessis Kirifi who celebrated his first All Blacks start with a try near the hour mark that nosed his team in front after trailing 19-17 at halftime. But veteran All Blacks centre Anton Lienert-Brown, making a return from injury, pegged the French back nearly three minutes after the halftime siren with a hard-earned try on the back of 18 phases. The French were unlocked again on 58 minutes by a Damian McKenzie grubber to the corner. France fullback Leo Barre retrieved the ball over the line but winger Sevu Reece pounced on him to spill it clear, allowing Kirifi to score his first Test try. Having taken the lead, the All Blacks ramped up the pressure and the brilliant Barrett broke through to set up McAlister's winner.
