American mink recovers from injury at Virginia Wildlife Center
The mink was brought to the center on February 27 with limited mobility, including one functional arm and two immobile legs. It has since been receiving round-the-clock care, including anti-inflammatories, pain medication, and laser therapy to help reduce the swelling.
Although the healing process is slow, there are signs of progress. Due to treatment, the mink is now starting to get movement back in all limbs.

The cause behind the injuries is unknown; however, the center believes the trauma is related to a vehicle collision. The severity of the injuries is believed to be from a spinal trauma that caused swelling and pressure on the spinal cord and nerve that left the mink with temporary paralysis.
Minks are known to be solitary, nocturnal, and semi-aquatic, with a diverse diet of insects, rodents, fish, crustaceans, amphibians, and birds.

They are great swimmers and have webbed feet, which allow them to dive up to 17 feet. They can also stay underwater for several minutes.
Their species are likely to be found in wetlands, including rivers, ponds, and streams, which is why intake at the center is rare.

Free summer meals offered by local area schools
LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) – Lynchburg City Schools and the City of Roanoke will be participating in the USDA Summer Food Service Program for 2025 to give meals free of charge. Both Roanoke and Lynchburg school officials said meals are available to all children 'regardless of race, color, national origin, sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation), disability or age, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.' Multi-agency drug bust leads to arrest in Roanoke
ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Virginia State Police have announced the arrest of a Roanoke man in connection with a multi-agency drug bust and the seizure of narcotics on May 30 with an estimated street value of over $240,000. According to VSP, a multi-agency drug investigation started in Bedford County in connection with the sale of methamphetamine and heroin containing fentanyl. On Friday, law enforcement served a criminal search warrant at a home on the 2400 block of Broadway Avenue SW after identifying 27-year-old male Jayshawn Lamonte Lomax of Roanoke as allegedly operating illegal activities from that location. North Carolina woman arrested in drug investigation in Henry County During the search, officers allegedly seized around 1,886 grams of suspected fentanyl, 1,275 grams of suspected methamphetamine, and 425 grams of marijuana with an estimated street value of $247,117, as well as two firearms and $16,665 in U.S. currency.
