These ultra-luxe restomods, from Helderburg Defenders, had no problem roaring through the powder covering the ground during our test drives.

Helderburg will tune and tweak the original 2.5-liter turbo-diesel engine to deliver a maximum of 220 hp and 440 ft lbs of torque.
The dashboard shape and control locations are unchanged, but there's plenty new, including an Alpine touchscreen display.
The differential engagement is a bit reluctant, as is the shifter attached to the five-speed transmission, giving the driving experience a decidedly traditional feel.
The door handles may look like the same flat-black plastic units that came from the factory, but they're actually made of black anodized aluminum.
The Alpine touchscreen display is connected to a sublime Focal sound system.
The seats and many of the surfaces are wrapped in upholstery that comes in your choice of hides and hues. It's quite a package, each one built to customer demands.
Since 2019, Helderburg Defenders has been taking a more traditional tack with its top-shelf, fully custom builds.

Valtteri Bottas Linked to Alpine F1 Team Amid Cadillac Rumors

Mercedes reserve driver Valtteri Bottas has been linked to a potential move to the Alpine Formula One team in 2026. The report arrives amid talks of him being considered for a seat in the Cadillac F1 team next year, marking the outfit's debut and the beginning of a new era of regulations in the sport. Bottas was dropped by Sauber at the end of 2024. Since then, he has been a reserve driver with Mercedes, a team he raced for from 2017 to 2021. The Finn is keen on a full-time seat with one of the teams on the grid, but with a competitive driver market, Cadillac looked to be ideal way to get back. However, according to a report by The Race, Bottas could be an Alpine F1 driver by the end of this year if the Enstone-based outfit decides to drop Franco Colapinto. For the same reason, Alpine's executive advisor and interim team principal, Flavio Briatore, held talks with Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff on Bottas' availability. The shift from Mercedes to Alpine could be a smooth one for the 35-year-old driver, since Alpine is set to become a Mercedes customer team next year. However, it remains to be seen if racing for Alpine is something that appeals to Bottas. If Bottas got really lucky, he could find himself with two offers on the table - one from Alpine and another from Cadillac. However, he has given himself the time until August of this year to finalize his future. Newsweek Sports reported Bottas' comments from a recent interview, where he revealed his interest in Cadillac. He said: "I think they have a few drivers on the list. I would imagine my experience will help because now I've raced in three different teams, with one of the teams having mega success. With Williams as well, we had some great results, so I hope I'm in a good position. "I know my timeline, when I want to know about next year and what plans I need to make, which I think is more or less August, which is a pretty good target for that, and hopefully, we'll hear something more soon. "For me, I actually see a very interesting project, something new to F1, an American team with maybe a different view to the sport. "If I were there as a driver, it would be very interesting because you can start from scratch. "The team starts from zero. You could actually make a big influence on certain things, which direction to go, and that would be very motivating and rewarding when the success comes. "I think the rule change is always a good point to jump in because you just never know, if you suddenly get it right, you might actually be doing really well from the get-go."

'Cost him the race': F1 driver facing the axe after incident with Oscar Piastri
Alpine driver Franco Colapinto is reportedly in danger of losing his spot on the F1 team, and a crazy incident involving Oscar Piastri in the Austrian Grand Prix won't do him any favours. Piastri finished second behind McLaren teammate Lando Norris, who cut the Aussie's lead in the championship to just 15 points. But it was nearly so much worse for Piastri, who came perilously close to not finishing the race when he was inadvertently forced off track by Colapinto on lap 55. Norris and Piastri were moving past the lapped Alpine driver, who moved out of the way for Norris but didn't appear to realise Piastri was also right there. Colapinto moved straight back into Piastri's path and forced the Aussie driver onto the grass, who managed to keep his composure and get back on track. Piastri narrowly avoided disaster, but the incident cost him precious ground on Norris and ruined his chances of overtaking his teammate late in the race. Piastri was then blocked by Colapinto's Alpine teammate Pierre Gasly on lap 57, and the Aussie driver was left fuming. He reportedly said on team radio: 'Alpine still manages to find a way to f*** me over all these years later." Piastri was referencing his controversial switch from Alpine to McLaren in 2022, when Alpine tried to block the move. F1 fans were left filthy with Colapinto's mistake, with many joking he's trying to take out as many Aussies as possible. The Argentine replaced Aussie driver Jack Doohan earlier this season, who was sacked after six races. But new reports have claimed Colapinto is also in the gun after failing to impress. 'Racing News 365' is reporting that Alpine are considering dumping Colapinto as well, with pressure intensifying after the incident with Piastri that could have caused massive embarrassment for the team had it affected the championship race even more. Alpine's plan was to give Colapinto five races to show what he's capable of, and those five races are now completed. The Argentine hasn't scored a single point, but neither did Doohan in his six races. Apline had seemingly backflipped on that plan and guaranteed Colapinto's immediate future, but their stance has reportedly now changed. According to 'Racing News 365': "Alpine has informed Colapinto and his management team that the Argentinian needed to start performing." Colapinto, who was hit with a five-second penalty during the race and one penalty point on his record afterwards, said: "I'm not really concerned. I think (team principal) Flavio Briatore has been very supportive and he has trust on the decision he's made. I, and the team as well, are focusing on improving the car. We looked a bit weak today, and we just need to take some steps forward. "The car has been a bit tricky for me to drive at the moment. It's not very consistent. It's quick, but it just didn't give me the confidence I needed to push in the high speed here. It was a tough weekend. Overall, we did some steps forward, but it felt like something didn't click." Colapinto cost Piastri the race. "It was a good battle. A bit on the edge at times and probably pushed the limits a bit far," he admitted afterwards. "But that's what we're here to do: try and race each other and try and fight for wins. And that's what we did today. It was close for me, but not quite enough." Team principal Andrea Stella praised Piastri's immediate accountability after the incident on Sunday, saying: "As soon as he crossed the finish line, he opened the radio and he said, 'Sorry for the situation in corner four. My bad. I know what I have to do'. We have come out stronger and even more united."

Lando Norris targets a much-needed win from pole at the Austrian Grand Prix
SPIELBERG, Austria -- Lando Norris is targeting a win to boost his Formula 1 title hopes Sunday after qualifying on pole for the Austrian Grand Prix, his first race since colliding with teammate Oscar Piastri in Canada. Norris was fastest by more than half a second in qualifying Saturday in a dominant display which seemed to come as a relief to the British driver, who's often struggled to show his best pace in qualifying this year. Charles Leclerc starts second for Ferrari, with teammate Lewis Hamilton fourth after an unexpectedly competitive day for the Italian team. Piastri leads Norris by 22 points in the standings and will be right behind his teammate on the grid after the Australian qualified third. Piastri had to abandon his last lap when Alpine's Pierre Gasly spun in front of him and said he was confident of having the pace to challenge on Sunday. complaining of a lack of grip in qualifying.
