Historic Welsh Gear Manufacturer Ceases Trading After 100 Years
North Wales manufacturing firm Woollacott Gears Ltd has closed after 100 years. Based at Llay Hall Industrial Estate, in Wrexham, Woollacott specialised in the production of precision gears and engineering components. The company was established more than 100 years ago and was recognised for its high-quality manufacturing, with past clients including BAE and other major industrial names. Manchester-based property and asset experts Landwood Group is now overseeing the sale of more than 450 lots of precision engineering machinery following the closure. Following their appointment by Leonard Curtis as Liquidators in late June, Landwood Group's machinery and business assets division is now overseeing the sale of Woollacott's extensive plant and machinery. Jeff Wignall, director at Landwood Group, said: 'It's always sad when a business like Woollacott Gears closes, especially one that's been part of Wrexham's history for more than 100 years. 'It was a well-respected local firm and it's important the sale reflects that. We're handling it with the care and precision it deserves. 'The auction offers a rare chance to get hold of specialist gear cutting machinery and associated equipment at a fraction of the usual cost. With more than 450 lots available, there's something for every business, whether you're upgrading, expanding or entering the gear manufacturing space for the first time. 'Our auctions always attract strong interest and with quality equipment like this in short supply, we're expecting some competitive bidding. It's not one to miss.' The sale includes high-spec CNC gear cutting machines, tooling, and stocks of parts and components, alongside a range of other manufacturing assets. Viewing of all equipment will be available at Llay Hall Industrial Estate, Mold Road, Cefn-y-bedd, Wrexham, LL12 9YG on Wednesday 6 August 2025 from 10am to 4pm. Supermarket giant launches pizza as part of its meal deal for first time and shoppers say it's a ‘gamechanger'
A SUPERMARKET giant now sells pizza as part of its meal deal and shoppers are calling it a "game changer". Sainsbury's has spruced up its popular lunch offer, to now include a slice of the beloved Italian dish. The savoury dish is sold as a snack in the three-piece combo deal, which also includes a drink and a main. You will need to head to the bakery section of the store to pick out the delight. If bought as a single item the baked good is priced at £1.20. It comes in a range of flavours including Tomato, Cheese and Onion, Red Onion and Cheese, and Tomato and Mozzarella. News of the offer has left customers stunned, with one describing it as a "huge" side, which "easily" measured between 8-10 inches long. While another joked they suddenly had a "renewed interest" in meal deals." Another shopper exclaimed: "What a time to be alive." And a fourth described it as a "game changer". A Sainsbury's meal deal will set you back £3.95 or its premium offer costs £5. The chain hiked the cost of the popular meal offer last month, with customers now paying an extra 20p. Shoppers were left fuming as they exclaimed "should we all just give up?". At the time, a Sainsbury's spokesperson said: "With millions of possible combinations, we continue to offer one of the best value meal deals around. SAVE AT SAINSBURY'S "We've also recently introduced a range of new products just in time for summer, including our best-seller Picnic Triple Sandwich and build your own salad options. "This means anyone who shops with us can choose from an affordable selection of over 150 mains, 300 snacks and 400 drinks." A Tesco meal deal costs £3.60 for Clubcard holders and £4.00 for non-Clubcard holders. If you have a Boots Advantage Card, the deal is £3.60 or £3.99 without. If you're a Co-op member you can get the lunchtime deal for £3.50, otherwise it costs £4. And Sainsbury's is not the only supermarket to raise the cost of its food offers. Tesco hiked the cost of its popular Finest Dine In meal deal. The offer, consisting of a main, side, dessert and drink for two people, previously cost £12 with a Clubcard, but has now risen to £15. MORE SAINSBURY'S NEWS Shoppers have been going wild for a major sale launched across its Vax and Shark vacuums yesterday. One penny watcher picked up a Shark Classic Upright Pet Vacuum for just £57.50. The premium corded vacuum tackles carpets, hard floors and pesky pet hairs. If you bought the model from the official Shark website it would set you back £149.99. That is a saving of £92.49. Another deal hunter got their hands on the Shark Stainstrike spot cleaner for £37.50. Sainsbury's knocked £112 off the price of the cleaning tool, which promises to get tough stains out of upholstery. A Vax Pick Up Pet vacuum has also been slashed in price from £90 down to £22.50. Sainsbury's has also cut the price of the Vax Spotwash duo from £140 down to £98. The grocery chain has launched a huge summer sale across its baby clothing range with prices starting at 90p.
