Big Ten and PayPal announce partnership for direct revenue share payments
We all know and love PayPal, and now it appears as though the popular payment platform has entered into an agreement with the Big Ten to be the official payment system for direct revenue-share payments to athletes.
This is on the heels of the House Settlement that not only provides the distribution of a settlement to past athletes, but also paves the way for direct revenue share payments to athletes going forward. For Ohio State's part, Athletic Director Ross Bjork announced that the $20.5 million allotted for payments will fund all scholarships, then split between four sports; football, men's and women's basketball, and women's volleyball.
It's not just the Big Ten that announced the arrangement with PayPal, but the Big 12 as well.
'We're proud to help lead this transformation in college athletics by making it easier and faster for student-athletes to receive funds and continue to bring trusted and innovative commerce solutions to the heart of campus life,' said Alex Chriss, President and CEO, PayPal in a statement. 'From receiving institutional payments to making everyday purchases, we're helping student-athletes, families, and schools engage in new ways that are modern, secure, and built for the future.'
'We look forward to partnering with PayPal to ensure a secure, rapid and reliable way for student-athletes to receive institutional payments as we welcome in this new era in college athletics,' said Big Ten Commissioner Tony Petitti, also in a statement.
I still can't believe we are at this point in college athletics, but time to embrace it and move forward. It's a good thing that these kids are getting what they've deserved for a long, long time.

Former UNC wide receiver praises Bill Belichick for his coaching style
This former UNC football player had some nice things to say about Chapel Bill. 2024 was another lost football season for the North Carolina Tar Heels, whom – despite clinching their sixth-consecutive trip to a bowl game – finished with their second losing record in four seasons. If you thought last year was bad for UNC, take a look at Florida State. The Seminoles started 2024 ranked, as they typically are, then proceeded to win just two games. North Carolina reloaded its roster this offseason under new head coach Bill Belichick, who brings eight Super Bowls and countless experience to Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels' greatest replacements come on defense, though, replacing their entire starting defensive line with the likes of Pryce Yates and Vilbert Smith. Gavin Blackwell, who played his first four collegiate seasons at UNC, had an opportunity to learn from Belichick for a few months. Now on FSU, Blackwell praised his former head coach, despite never suiting up for him. "He was great," Blackwell said. "Honestly, I have nothing bad to say about Coach (Bill) Belichick. He loves football. Everything you see online and stuff like that, I would kind of say the media portrays it a little bit differently than what it is inside the building. He loves his players, he loves his coaches and he's all about ball. He kind of brought more of an NFL aspect to college and that's kind of what they're running there. But himself, he's down-to-earth dude, not a big-headed guy. You can go up to him, have a conversation, talk ball with him. He loves that type of stuff and when you show that you're interested, he's gonna make sure he gives you that same respect and try to help you as much as he can. He's got eight Super Bowls. Great dude, wish them the best." Blackwell redshirted his first collegiate season in 2021, appearing in just one game, but emerged the following year with 239 receiving yards and his lone touchdown. Now on a Mike Norvell-led roster desperately searching for productive talent, Blackwell has a real chance to put up WR1 numbers. Hurricanes Select NCAA Center Charlie Cerrato 49th Overall
The Carolina Hurricanes have selected Penn State center Charlie Cerrato with the 49th overall pick of the 2025 NHL Draft. Cerrato, 20, is a double overager, having gone through multiple drafts, but he put the time in in the NCAA to round out his game and get on scout's radar. Advertisement The 6-foot center had 42 points in 38 games last season with Penn State and was a finalist for the Big Ten Freshman of the Year. Center was a big need for the Canes, so the addition of Cerrato, an older prospect, could certainly help out the pipeline.
