Billy Joel's wife was 'unimpressed' by his musical talents
The 76-year-old star tried to woo Alexis, 43, with his musical talents during the early days of their romance, but she was completely unimpressed by his efforts.
In the new HBO documentary series Billy Joel: And So It Goes, he explains: "I remember the first time I met Alexis, we went to my house, and I wanted to play the piano for her. It's a form of communication for me."
Billy assumed that Alexis would be wowed by his award-winning talents. However, she was unmoved when he played the piano for her.
Billy - who married Alexis in 2015 - said: "I'm playing that and she's completely unimpressed with it, totally. She couldn't care less what I'm playing and I'm thinking, 'Oh OK, this isn't working.'
"She was very unimpressed with the whole Billy Joel thing, which impressed me. Because I thought, 'OK, maybe she's just here because she likes me, not the Billy Joel guy.'"
The music star - who has daughters Della, nine, and Remy, seven, with Alexis - made a conscious effort to develop their relationship away from the spotlight.
He explained: "We had a couple years together before we had kids and he had completely stopped doing shows. We travelled everywhere. We did a motorcycle trip from Maine down to Long Island, we were on boats 24/7. We were in Europe. We had so much fun."
Meanwhile, Billy recently admitted that he was hesitant about committing to his HBO documentary.
The music icon revealed that he was reluctant to reflect on some of the "stupid stuff" he's done in the past.
He told People: "I've resisted this kind of thing for so long. I'm sick of talking about myself. Some of the stupid stuff I did, that's painful to talk about. (But) they asked me for some thematic guidance. I said, 'Just tell the truth.'"
Billy initially just wanted to get the documentary "over with" because he doesn't enjoy talking about himself.
The Uptown Girl hitmaker said: "My goal was to get it over with.
"When I do interviews, people just ask you about yourself and you get a little self-conscious about it eventually. It's almost embarrassing.
"When you're talking about your personal life detached from the material ... I suppose there's a little bit of wariness involved."

'Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte, there will never be better friends and what great fortune for Carrie to come to know and love Seema and LTW, most divine new connections,' she shared. Parker also shared what her legendary character has meant to her over the years. 'Carrie Bradshaw has dominated my professional heartbeat for 27 years. I think I have loved her most of all,' she continued. 'I know others have loved her just as I have. Been frustrated, condemned and rooted for her. The symphony of all those emotions has been the greatest soundtrack and most consequential companion.' Parker than began to conclude her message by saying that her and King 'recognised, as we have in the past, this chapter complete'. I am better for every single day I spent with you. It will be forever before I forget the whole thing,' she wrote, before adding a 'Thank you' to fans. 'I love you so. Hulk Hogan didn't meet his grandchildren prior to his death
Hulk Hogan never met his grandchildren before his death. The wrestling legend passed away aged 71 last month after suffering a heart attack at his home in Florida and his son-in-law Steven Oleksy has revealed that Hulk showed "no interest" in meeting his estranged daughter Brooke's twins Oliver Andrew and Molly Gene when approached following their births in January. Former NHL player Oleksy told People: "I sent text messages once again to kind of gauge where he was at, but there was no interest." Oleksy explained how he and Brooke moved from Michigan to Florida to be closer to Hulk - whose real name was Terry Bollea - as he "was getting older" and suffering with his health. He said: "She was there for every surgery leading up to the last two years. She would fly down on her own dime, take care of her dad, and it just made a lot of sense. "No one understood his body, procedures, medications and everything else more than my wife." And Just Like That … the Sex and the City reboot is wrapping up. The series will come to an end with the two-part finale of the third season, which is currently airing. Ten episodes have been released, and the twelfth will be its last, as showrunner Michael Patrick King confirmed on Friday, US time. The cast – excluding lead star Sarah Jessica Parker, who also serves as an executive producer – was told just one day earlier, according to Deadline. 'And just like that … the ongoing storytelling of the Sex And The City universe is coming to an end,' said King in a message posted to Instagram. 'While I was writing the last episode of And Just Like That … season 3, it became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop. Along with Sarah Jessica Parker, Casey Bloys and Sarah Aubrey, we decided to end the popular series this year with a two-part finale and extended the original series order from 10 episodes to 12. 'SJP and I held off announcing the news until now because we didn't want the word 'final' to overshadow the fun of watching the season. It's with great gratitude we thank all the viewers who have let these characters into their homes and their hearts over these many years.' Season two romantically reunited Carrie with Aidan (Corbett), her ex-boyfriend from the original series, Charlotte (Davis) navigated family challenges, and Miranda moved to LA to be with Che, where things quickly between them quickly fell apart. The current run of episodes has seen NYC-based Carrie and Aidan struggle to stay together as he deals with his son's issues back in Virginia, and as she gets closer to her neighbour, a British author.
