As the 2025-26
NHL
season nears, two of hockey's most iconic names—Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin—are once again chasing history. This time, they have their eyes on new milestones that would draw them even closer to the legendary Wayne Gretzky's towering legacy.
The NHL reveals major point milestone in reach for
Sidney Crosby
and
Alex Ovechkin
According to NHL Public Relations, both Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin are expected to hit 1,700 career points this upcoming season. The announcement came in a July 12 post on X, stating: 'Looking Ahead to 2025-26: It could be another milestone year for Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin. Both players are on the path to 1,700 points while tracking down legends on the all-time list.'
With 1,687 career points to his name, Crosby currently sits 9th all-time and is the only active player in the top 10.
Meanwhile, Ovechkin isn't far behind at 1,623 points, ranked 11th. While neither will catch Gretzky's all-time total of 2,857 points anytime soon, their continued production this late in their careers is nothing short of remarkable.
Alex Ovechkin already passed Wayne Gretzky once—and Sidney Crosby just did too
In April 2025, Ovechkin passed Gretzky's long-standing record of 894 regular-season goals, becoming the NHL's all-time leading goal scorer. He now sits at 897 and counting. With a few more solid seasons, he could become the first player ever to hit the 1,000-goal mark.

Crosby also made history this past March when he overtook Gretzky for most NHL seasons averaging over a point per game. Gretzky had 19 such seasons; Crosby now holds 20.
Despite their individual accolades, both stars remain committed to team success. Ovechkin's top priority remains bringing another Cup to Washington, and Crosby continues to lead a competitive Penguins squad.

While Gretzky's numbers may never be fully touched, Crosby and Ovechkin are proving that longevity, consistency, and greatness can redefine what it means to be a legend in today's NHL. The 2025-26 season could be one of the last chapters in this incredible generational rivalry.

The network's move has left viewers surprised, not just because of who was fired, but because of what else was quietly shut down. Why Joy Taylor lost her longtime Fox Sports role as Speak ends with Paul Pierce and Keyshawn Johnson Joy Taylor had become a familiar face on Fox Sports over the years. She joined the network in 2016 and worked on shows like The Herd with Colin Cowherd and Undisputed before becoming one of the main hosts of Speak. The show featured strong debates on sports headlines, and her chemistry with co-hosts Paul Pierce and Keyshawn Johnson helped build a loyal fanbase. On July 15, 2025, sources from The Athletic revealed that Fox Sports had decided to cancel 'Speak' along with two other studio shows as part of major programming changes. The network also confirmed that Joy Taylor was no longer part of their broadcast lineup. Neither Paul Pierce nor Keyshawn Johnson has commented on the decision yet. The exact reason for the cancellation has not been made public, but industry insiders believe the network may be shifting towards fewer studio debates and more live coverage and digital content. While it was a huge heartbreak for the Edmonton Oilers' captain, Connor McDavid has also been the talk of the town due to his contract situation with the Edmonton Oilers. While the Edmonton Oilers had opened up about it a few days ago, things have not really moved since then. Will Connor McDavid extend his contract with the Edmonton Oilers? The team opened up about it Around two weeks ago, the Edmonton Oilers' general manager Stan Bowman spoke about Connor McDavid's situation with the team and whether the star player would be signing a contract extension. Stan Bowman had said, 'We're very eager to do that whenever they're ready…I think Connor has earned the right to choose when he wants to get into the details of it and we're ready right now, he knows that.' The Edmonton Oilers' general manager, Stan Bowman, also added, 'We haven't talked to him at all about his contract, it's really just been talking to him about our team and how we can improve and what he sees and that kind of stuff. So, the conversations haven't even started as far as a contract.' However, it has been two weeks now and there have been no updates on this situation. With Connor McDavid being one of the most talented and popular players in the league, there are other teams out there, which are apparently waiting for him to make a decision. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Compare Spreads: Bitcoin vs Ethereum CFDs IC Markets Learn More Undo This includes the Toronto Maple Leafs, as reported earlier by the Bleacher Report's Adam Gretz. Jayson Tatum cracks Top 100 NBA players of all time, ranked No. 93 by Bleacher Report

Jayson Tatum is ranked #93 on Bleacher Report's Top 100 NBA Players OF ALL TIME (Image via Instagram / @jaytatum0) Before turning 25, famous NBA player Jayson Tatum recently accomplished incredible feats that very few people in NBA history have ever achieved. He has been named in a new list of the Top 100 NBA Players of All Time. The list, shared by a major sports outlet, Bleacher Report, includes many of the NBA's biggest legends. One can find Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on the list. Now, the player from the Boston Celtics got the honor. Jayson Tatum joins NBA legends in Bleacher Report's all-time Top 100 players list Due to its excess subjectivity, the "Top 100 NBA Players of All Time" list is often criticized. One of the primary reasons for the criticism is the way they compare players from different generations. Recency bias is another issue, in which more recent athletes are assigned a higher rank simply because they remain fresh in everyone's memory. Older players who were relevant during their time can get ignored or even forgotten, since they lack modern media coverage or video evidence. Recently, Boston Celtics ' Jayson Tatum's name appeared on the list. Bleacher Report surprisingly ranked the NBA player at number 93. In an attempt to explain this action, the outlet's employees stated on Monday: 'Jayson Tatum's inclusion may be seen as a rush to coronation. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like MacBook Air M4- now available at ₹83906* MacBook Air M4 Undo He isn't even halfway through his career. They further opened up about how prestigious his group is, given how young he is. When healthy, Jayson Tatum is among the league's top players. He has participated in at least 70 games in six of the league's eight seasons and at least 64 in all eight. However, this new accomplishment has placed him in a spot. Nevertheless, in the end, because everyone has different ideas on who should be ranked where, lists like these are always controversial. Regardless of people's opinion on the NBA star's ranking, one thing is certain: Jayson Tatum has already established a significant reputation for himself and is only beginning.
