Adani Group To Invest Additional Rs 50,000 Crore In Northeast Over 10 Years

NDTV23-05-2025
New Delhi:
The Adani Group has announced a significant additional investment of Rs 50,000 crore across the Northeast over the next 10 years, spanning across many sectors including green energy, roads and highways, and digital infrastructure. The announcement was made by Gautam Adani, the Chairman of the Adani Group at the 'Rising Northeast Summit' on Friday.
"Over the past decade, in the hills and valleys of the Northeast, a new chapter in India's growth story is unfolding. A story rooted in diversity, resilience, and untapped potential. This region is now a source of our cultural pride, economic promise, and strategic direction. I announce that Adani Group will invest an additional 50,000 crore across the Northeast over the next 10 years," Mr Adani said.
He added, "Our focus will span green energy - including smart-meters, hydro, pumped storage, power transmission, roads and highways, digital infrastructure, logistics, as well as capacity-building through skilling and vocational training centres. But more than infrastructure, we will invest in people. Every initiative will prioritise local jobs, local entrepreneurship, and community engagement."
Highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's role in fostering growth in the Northeast, Mr Adani said, "Hon'ble Prime Minister, when you said 'Act East, Act Fast, Act First', you gave the Northeast its wake-up call. 65 personal visits, 6.2 lakh crore of investments since 2014, doubling the road network to 16,000 km, doubling the number of airports to 18 - this is not just a policy. It is your hallmark of big thinking, your belief systems, your convictions in a 'Sabka Saath, Saka Vikas'."
"Hon'ble Prime Minister, we will walk in step with your vision. To all brothers and sisters of Northeast, we at Adani will stand beside your dreams, your dignity, and your destiny," Mr Adani said.
This comes three months after the Adani Group announced an investment of Rs 50,000 crore in Assam, spanning key infrastructure sectors such as airports, aero cities, city gas distribution, transmission, cement, and road projects.
Highlighting PM Modi's role in fostering investment-driven economic growth, Mr Adani had drawn parallels between Assam's economic aspirations and the success of Gujarat's investment ecosystem. He also credited PM Modi's vision, which started with the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit in 2003, as the catalyst that inspired states across India to adopt similar strategies.

3 killed as gunmen fire at protesters in Pakistans Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province

Peshawar, Jul 27 (PTI) Unknown gunmen fired at a gathering protesting against counter-terrorism operations in Pakistan's northwestern province Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday, leaving three dead and many injured, a top official said. A day earlier, a mortar strike claimed the life of a girl in the Zakha Khel area of the Khyber District, sparking the Sunday demonstration, during which locals placed the girl's body in front of the Momand Ghuz security checkpoint. Suhail Afridi, the special assistant to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister, said three people died and eight were injured in the firing by terrorists on the demonstrators in the Tirah Valley. Following the incident, the grieving families and residents of the area staged a protest by blocking the Tank-South Waziristan Road, and demanded immediate identification and action against those responsible for the killings. Afridi said, 'Following the girl's death on Saturday, locals staged a protest in front of the Frontier Corps compound today. They had gathered near he gates when shots were fired." 'I spoke to district officials who told me that terrorists belonging to Fitna-al-Khawarij fired at the protesters," he said, using the term designating members of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province expressed deep sorrow and regret over the Tirah incident. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government announced compensation of Rs 10 million for the kin of each deceased and Rs 2.5 million for each injured individual. Negi accuses BJP of insulting national flag

Shimla, Jul 27(UNI) Himachal Pradesh Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi has strongly criticized BJP leaders and a few local businessmen in Thunag for allegedly insulting the national flag during a protest against the government's decision to shift the Horticulture College from Thunag to a safer location. Negi defended the Congress government's move to relocate the college, citing the recent flash floods and the risk to students' lives. "It is wrong to run a college in a disaster-prone area just to protect business interests of a few people," he said, adding that students living in rented homes in Thunag had themselves requested relocation due to repeated disasters in 2023 and 2024. The Minister said that BJP workers and a handful of shopkeepers tried to block the state government's decision and even created a scene during his visit to the area. 'They surrounded my vehicle, threw black cloths and a slipper-like object at it, and disrespected the tricolour mounted on the car,' he alleged. 'This act amounts to treason,' he added. Negi also questioned the BJP's silence over the incomplete infrastructure of the college. "Out of the total Rs 270 crore sanctioned, only Rs 10 crore was spent when BJP was in power," he claimed. He said Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu is personally monitoring the situation and relief work is going on without any resistance from the common people. 'Only some BJP leaders and businessmen are trying to politicize the issue,' Negi said. Negi further targeted BJP leader Dr. Rajeev Bindal, saying, 'The real shameful act is the insult of the national flag, not the relocation of the college meant to save lives.' The college was shifted after discussions with the university, as there was no suitable vacant land in the Saraj area, the Minister clarified. UNI ML RKM

Jhalawar tragedy: Govt fast-tracks 169cr plan to repair state schools

Jaipur: Following the school building collapse in Jhalawar that killed seven children and injured 21, the state administration has approved Rs 169.5 crore for major repair works in 1,936 govt schools. On Saturday, education minister Madan Dilawar said, "State govt has approved Rs 169.5 crore for major repair works in 1,936 govt schools." Officials from the minister's team said the amount was approved as per the current year's budget announcement. Speaking on the timing of the approval, Satish Gupta, the minister's officer on special duty (OSD), said, "The file was already in process, and now the approval has been received from the finance department. Orders will also be issued soon on this." Dilawar could not be reached for comments. Sources said approvals for major repair works were "in process" for the past two months but were fast-tracked only after the accident in Jhalawar. On Sunday, following a high-level meeting chaired by the education minister, a new proposal of Rs 150 crore was announced for repair works in 7,500 schools in 170 tehsils. The financial contribution, which will come from the Disaster Management Fund, will be used for the repair of schools damaged due to the monsoon rains. The department has also asked its officials to conduct field inspections of govt schools across the state and submit a report on the condition of the buildings by July 30.
