2025 SEC football power rankings at media days
Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel represented the Vols on Tuesday at media days. He previewed Tennessee entering its upcoming campaign after a 10-3 (6-2 SEC) season and a College Football Playoff berth in 2024.
'As we move forward here into the '25 season, I'm going to rewind to last December,' Heupel said. 'Everybody inside of our program didn't like the taste in their mouth as the season finished up in late December. That's been a part of spurring us on throughout each quarter of our offseason. It's been a part of how intentional and how focused that we've been throughout the course of the summer, and I'm excited to go compete with these guys when we get here to training camp.
'For us to take another step and to continue to grow as a program, it has come down, and this is something that we've been very diligent in inside of our program this offseason, the accountability to yourself and to your teammates every single day. Guys doing their job at an elite level, building the leadership that you need to have to control and command your unit and your position group, and ultimately the way that we're going to compete every single day together.'

Why one Texas player called Kirby Smart a maniac
Texas Longhorns senior safety Michael Taaffe was one of three Texas players in Atlanta for the 2025 SEC media days. Taaffe along with the rest of Texas is confident ahead of the 2025 college football season. The Longhorns have a lot to be confident about. Texas is returning a ton of talent and advanced to the semifinals of the College Football Playoff last season before falling to the eventual national champion Ohio State Buckeyes. Texas did miss out on one of their goals, to win the SEC championship, last season because of the Georgia Bulldogs. Georgia beat Texas in Austin in a dominant defensive performance for the Bulldogs and then went on to topple Texas in overtime in the SEC championship. Taaffe and Texas will try to beat Georgia again in 2025, but this time it will be on the road. At SEC media days, Taaffe was asked what will be the difference this year to give Texas a huge SEC win. "Coach (Kirby) Smart is one of the most competitive coaches I have ever been against in my life," said Taaffe. "Like, physically hearing him on the sideline when I'm playing defense. I'm like who is this maniac?" "And it is their head coach trying to, you know, get a call or get something in and I think the team is embodied by the head coach. And he does a great job of embodying what their team is all about and to be honest, I think they out-physicaled us in that first game, so we gotta come with a physical nature and a sense of pride and knowing that if we want to get to where we want to go in December, then we gotta beat those guys," Taaffe said. Georgia and Texas will meet in Sanford Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 15. The Georgia-Texas game will be UGA's final SEC game of the regular season and it could be a preview of the 2025 SEC championship. Georgia and Texas' rivalry grew significantly on the same day Georgia and Texas took the stage at SEC media days. Texas beat out Georgia for five-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson and then flipped five-star Georgia defensive line commitment James Johnson. The Dawgs and Longhorns have a budding rivalry and are both vying to be the best team in the SEC.

Pro Football Focus ranks Notre Dame's Jeremiyah Love as top RB in 2026 NFL Draft class
Star Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love faces high expectations heading into the 2025 season after his breakout campaign last fall helped the Fighting Irish on their College Football Playoff run. Now, another projected strong season is sure to turn the heads of NFL personnel. In its newly released "2026 NFL Draft: Preseason Running Back Rankings," Pro Football Focus has Love ranked at No. 1, calling him the "jewel of the running back class." The 6-foot, 206-pound junior ran for 1,125 yards and 17 touchdowns in 2024, and he caught 28 passes for 237 yards and two receiving scores. Included in those numbers is his school record-tying 98-yard touchdown run on the third play of the first-round CFP game against Indiana. A former high school track state champion, Love's speed is obvious on tape, but he also has the ability to force defenders to miss tackles, gain extra yards after contact and catch the ball out of the backfield. There is absolutely a strong possibility Love is the first RB off the board next spring in the 2026 NFL Draft. ND opens the new season at Miami on Sunday, August 31 at 7:30 p.m. ET at Hard Rock Stadium (ABC). It will mark the 28th meeting between the two programs, with the Fighting Irish owning a record of 18-8-1 in the all-time series against the Hurricanes.
