More than 430 migrants were spotted and rescued about 25 nautical miles off Gavdos, Greece's southernmost island, on Sunday, the coastguard said in a statement. In a separate incident, also on Sunday, the European Union's Frontex border agency rescued 96 migrants on board two boats off Crete, the coastguard said. The migrants are now being taken to Crete, Greece's largest and most populous island. Sea arrivals from northeastern Libya of migrants trying to cross to Europe have surged in recent months. They mainly come from the Middle East and North Africa, including nationals from war-torn Sudan and citizens of Egypt and Bangladesh. Last month Athens said it would deploy two frigates near Libyan territorial waters to help stem the flow. It also urged Libya to cooperate more closely with Greece and the EU to stop migrants sailing from there or turn them back before they exit Libyan territorialwaters. In another incident on Sunday, a Greek media outlet published footage showing dozens of migrants jumping off a speed boat into the water before reaching the shores of southern Crete. Greece and Libya have been trying to mend relations strained by an accord signed in 2019 between the Libyan government and Turkey. Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis travelled to Benghazi on Sunday to discuss migration with eastern Libyan military commander Khalifa Haftar. "We will continue our undisturbed relationship... and we hope that in the near future we will have tangible results for the progress of our relations," Gerapetritis was quoted by his ministry as saying after meeting Haftar. X suspends Reuters account in India after 'legal demand', government denies making request

A spokesperson for the Indian government's Press Information Bureau, however, told Reuters there was no requirement from any agency in the government of India to "withhold the Reuters handle. We are continuously working with X to resolve the problem". Reuters could not immediately determine what specific content the demand referred to, why its removal was sought or the entity that had lodged the complaint. Representatives for X did not immediately respond to requests for comment. A Reuters spokesperson said in a statement, "We are working with X to resolve this matter and get Reuters account reinstated in India as soon as possible." Reuters World, another X account operated by the news agency, has also been blocked in India. The main Reuters account, followed by more than 25 million users globally, has been blocked in India since Saturday night. A note tells X users that "@Reuters has been withheld in IN (India) in response to a legal demand". In an email to the Reuters social media team on May 16, X said: "It is our policy to notify account holders if we receive a legal request from an authorized entity (such as law enforcement or a government agency) to remove content from their account." "In order to comply with X obligations under India's local laws, we have withheld your X account in India under the country's Information Technology Act, 2000; the content remains available elsewhere". Reuters could not ascertain if the May 16 email was linked to Saturday's account suspension. While the email did not specify which entity had made the request or what content they sought to remove, it said X had been advised that in a case of this sort, a user could contact the secretary of India's Information and Broadcasting Ministry. The secretary, Sanjay Jaju, did not immediately respond to requests seeking comment. The 2000 law allows designated government officials to demand takedown of content from social media platforms they deem to violatelocallaws, including on the grounds of national security or if a post threatens public order. X has long been at odds with India's government over content-removal requests. The company sued the federal government in March over a new government website the company says expands takedown powers to "countless" government officials. The case is continuing. India has said X wrongly labelled an official website a "censorship portal", as the website only allows tech companies to be notified about harmful online content. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said this will be achieved through investor-friendly policies, the development of local talent, and high-impact technology collaboration. He stated that this aligns with the aspiration of making Malaysia a leading aerospace hub in the ASEAN region, with a highly skilled workforce and a strong, competitive industrial ecosystem. He said this in a statement after holding a meeting with the president and CEO of Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer, Francisco Gomes Neto, here today. The meeting was held to discuss strategic investment opportunities in Malaysia, said Anwar, who is in town for the BRICS Leaders' Summit. Regarding the meeting, Anwar, who is also finance minister, said discussions touched on Embraer's potential investment in Malaysia, including collaborations with Malaysian airlines. "I emphasised the MADANI Government's commitment to strengthening the aviation industry ecosystem," he added. Malaysia also welcomes Embraer's involvement in the development of maintenance centres, pilot training, supply chains, and low-carbon aircraft innovation, in line with the MADANI Economy framework and the National Aerospace Industry Blueprint 2030. Anwar said he also appreciated Embraer's interest in enhancing cooperation in the defence sector, which could improve the air mobility capabilities of the Malaysian Armed Forces. "The government is committed to ensuring that all forms of cooperation are translated into high-value job opportunities, technology transfer, and inclusive economic growth for the people of Malaysia," he added. A global aerospace company headquartered in Brazil, Embraer has businesses in commercial and executive aviation, defence and security, and agricultural aviation. The company designs, develops, manufactures, and markets aircraft and systems, providing services and after-sales support to customers.
