Book review
The New Neighbours by Claire Douglas
The New Neighbours by Claire Douglas
A must-read for fans of psychological thrillers. Lena, a recently separated mother, assists her teenage son with a media project, inadvertently capturing a conversation between her new neighbours, the Morgans, using a boom microphone. The conversation suggests they might be planning a crime and Lena becomes obsessed with the possibility that she overheard something sinister. Her investigation into their lives intertwines with her own hidden past, leading her down a dangerous path where uncovering the truth could have dire consequences. Split into three parts and told through multiple POVs, the story has an intricate plot and compelling characters (although it was quite difficult to keep up with them all). Well worth a read and should keep you captivated until the very last page. Lynda T

Lego Batman is returning to Arkham Asylum in a huge new set with 16 minifigures

The Dark Knight has risen once again, with a huge new Lego set recreating Arkham Asylum and all of its miscreant inmates and would-be jailors. Batman's love of gadgets means he's always been a good fit for Lego, with many different sets over the years, from a giant Batcave to a homage to The Animated Series, and even his own movie. Things have been a bit quiet on the Batman front recently, with no new movies to motivate interest, but as Superman starts a new DC cinematic universe, so it is that Batman has been given a major new Lego set, featuring Gotham City's psychiatric hospital for the criminally insane. The set is 25cm wide and 32cm high and can be connected up to other Lego modular buildings or left as a standalone tribute to one of the greatest rogues gallery in fiction, let alone just comic books. Included in the set are 16 minifigures, featuring Batman, Batwoman, Batwing (the son of Bruce Wayne's confidant Lucius Fox), Robin, and two security guards. In terms of supervillains, you've got The Joker, Harley Quinn, The Penguin, Mr Freeze, The Riddler, Poison Ivy, Catwoman, Scarecrow, Bane, and Killer Croc. More Trending Like most modular Lego buildings, Arkham Asylum is split into three sections, with a removable first floor, second floor, and roof. This allows you to play around in the detailed interior, that includes opening prison cells, a security entrance, and psychiatry room. There's even a van for moving inmates around in. Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. The whole set is made up of 2,953 Lego pieces, which is a lot and means the whole thing will take quite a while to build. But it has a neat extra feature in that the pieces come in 24 separate bags, and the idea is that you can use them as an advent calendar, completing one each day in the run-up to Christmas. What you'd be getting for Christmas, if this was only the lead in, is hard to say but with 65 stickers, most of which feature references to obscure Batman lore, this is definitely going to please any fan of the Caped Crusader. Naturally, it's not cheap, at £269.99, but it's not out until 12th September, so you have time to save up or you could just pre-order it right now from the Lego website. Got a story? Lego Game Boy unveiled with pre-orders now live - but some point out 'disappointing' flaw

Fans have reacted excitedly to the drop but others have pointed out an aspect of the Game Boy that "stinks" When we think back to our childhood, we think of all the cool games and toys we played with that now bring use a huge rush of nostalgia. Among our younger favourites was Lego and Game Boy - so what if they combined? Well, good news, because Lego is bringing a true icon to brick form - the original Game Boy from Nintendo. And pre-orders are now live. Dubbed a "revolutionary time in video game history," at a scale of near 1:1, the LEGO Game Boy model building kit is a testament to a classic era in gaming with authentic details and much-loved features. The Game Boy model building kit is available now for pre-order and will be available for purchase on October 1, 2025. So mark the date in your calendars, gaming fanatics. The kit is currently going for £54.99 on the LEGO site. And people are already getting excited, with many taking to X, previously Twitter, to share their thoughts. One user wrote: "Sensational ad. Where do I spend all my money on this". A second scribed: "This looks awesome! Can't wait to see what we can build with this. Pre-ordering now!" A third raved: "Epic ad, epic product! I need this in my very small Lego collection!" However, others were left disappointed by the fact you can't actually play games on the device once you assemble it, with one writing: "That stinks. I would rather have a real Gameboy and play the real games." A second questioned: "So, it's not playable for that amount of money?" while a third set out his prediction for the next phase of the product, writing: "Countdown before someone makes it playable." The user's vision for the Lego Game Boy was shared by others, one of whom wrote a little more kindly: "Brilliant, I hope this becomes a whole series of portable console LEGO sets!" Another chipped in with photos of the OG 90s Game boy and asked the internet: "Anyone else still own their original gameboys?" to which the answer would surely have been positive from a fair few people. If you want to shop around and splurge a bit, Argos is selling the Nintendo Switch 2 and Mario Kart World Console Bundle for £429.99. Alternatively, the NINTENDO Switch OLED is on Currys for £309. There scale is pretty much 1:1, and the set looks unbelievably accurate. There's a D-pad, as well as Start and Select buttons, and volume dials on the sides. Lego also seem to have recreated the iconic fuchsia A and B buttons that slot perfectly into the rest of the frame, and the text seems to have been printed directly onto the bricks, which means no pesky stickers. Plus, the original Game Boy's curved edges appear to have been faithfully recreated.
