NASA has already found signs of alien life on Mars but is still keeping it secret, a rogue scientist claims.
Barry DiGregorio, 71, believes rovers from the space agency captured snaps of alien fossils on two different occasions.

In 2018, Nasa's Curiosity rover took images of what it said likely show crystal growth.
But DiGregorio accused Nasa of failing to investigate properly and spent two years researching the images himself.
The author, who wrote Discovery on Vera Rubin Ridge, Trace Fossils on Mars, then concluded they were 'biogenic' - meaning they were produced by living organisms.
He theorised Nasa was staying tight-lipped to boost interest in its hopes of sending humans to the Red Planet in the 2030s.
DeGregorio, an honorary research fellow at Buckingham Centre for Astrobiology, now claims Nasa found yet more evidence of alien life on Mars.
He believes images snapped by the Perseverance rover in 2020 show signs of 'worm-like' aliens who roamed its historic oceans.
The astrobiologist told The Sun: 'I watched the rover coming down right on its landing site.
'You could see the engines just brushing all the dust aside for the rocks to become apparent, and the very first images it took were these rocks that had holes in them.
'Then after China's Zhurong rover mission, they published a paper where they said all the rocks that they found were of sedimentary origin, and that they formed in In water.'
DiGregorio then saw a striking resemblance to the trace fossils he'd grown up studying in Lake Ontario, on the border of Canada and the US.

He added: 'It made an intriguing hypothesis because I had always been fascinated by the trace fossils around Lake Ontario, I grew up around that area.
'We didn't have dinosaur fossils, but what we did have was lots of marine fossils dating back to the Ordovician era and even before.
'The sandstones that I found on the shores of Lake Ontario I felt were a good analogy to what we were seeing on Mars.
'Now we know that those rocks there are marine sedimentary rocks, it solidifies it a bit.'
And DiGregorio was so gobsmacked by the discovery he thought Nasa was preparing an announcement.
But instead, he claims the rover failed to properly examine the rocks.
He continued: 'So the fact that the Perseverance rover landed right on top of similar rocks was almost too much to bear.
'When I saw those rocks all over the place, I'm going, 'what? Oh my God'.

'I thought, for sure, Nasa is going to make a big announcement.
'And instead, what they did was they headed towards the opposite direction. So they didn't really analyse those rocks at all.'
DiGregorio doesn't believe the images point to an alien civilisation, the kind that might be drawn up in a sci-fi film.
But he does believe they were jellyfish-type figures that could move around.
He added: 'The holes in the rocks tell me the story that bigger organisms were there, but they were essentially marine organisms.
'So wormy things, maybe fish, possibly jellyfish, really ancient type things that moved around.
'I'm thinking wormy-type things that were around during the Ediacaran period.
'Then the climate on Mars changed and the atmosphere changed.
'The water probably got absorbed into the soil and a lot of it left through the atmosphere due to the solar wind.'

Nasa said after the Perseverance mission that the findings couldn't be fully analysed because sending the appropriate equipment was too complicated.
But the agency is planning a sample return mission based on its findings, and did not rule out the possibility of the Perseverance photos pointing to signs of alien life.
Yet asked why Nasa would continue to conceal everything it knows about the images, DiGregorio theorised it was because of the potential dangers to astronauts.
Mars has an incredibly hostile environment compared to Earth.
It fluctuates between extreme temperatures, and has a surface level radiation that would be incredibly harmful to humans.
DiGregorio added: 'I think that they don't want to say anything about it because of the fact they are sending humans there.
'If you have microbes on Mars, and they say we've discovered life on Mars, it could be different to Earth life and could be toxic or dangerous to human astronauts. That's what I think it is.'
According to Nasa's website, it hopes they will send humans to Mars in the 2030s.
A Nasa spokesman, responding to DiGregorio's claims, told The Sun one of the agency's goals is to "understand whether Mars has, or ever has had life, and any credible evidence of potential past life."
They insisted the agency will "continue to investigate the best of our ability".
The spokesman added: "During its exploration of the Martian surface, Perseverance has encountered many interesting rock features, and the science team has determined which rocks are worth further investigation, and even sampling, based on all of the available data.
"To date, NASA has yet to find any credible evidence of extraterrestrial life.
"Our exploration of Mars also has to led to many images that evoke our natural curiosity and creativity of interpretation.

"Our science teams spend many hours debating what may have formed these visual features, while bringing to bear all of the additional information afforded by our incredibly outfitted rovers and orbiters.
"While the science community continues to theorise these images point to possible crystal growth, Nasa's science missions are working together with a goal to find unmistakable signs of life beyond Earth."
It comes after Nasa admitted a mysterious hole on Mars could be harbouring alien life in an extensive network of underground tunnels,
From orbit, scientists have captured a deep pit on the Red Planet that looks like it leads underground.
The image, titled "An unusual hole in Mars," shows a pockmarked planet that could be hiding tons of subterranean pockets.
"There are numerous holes pictured in this Swiss cheese-like landscape, with all-but-one of them showing a dusty, dark, Martian terrain beneath evaporating, light, carbon dioxide ice," Nasa wrote.
"The most unusual hole is on the upper right, spans about 100 meters, and seems to punch through to a lower level."
It's unclear what caused the hole.
Though scientists assume the circular crater that surrounds it suggests it was created by a meteor impact.
"Holes such as this are of particular interest because they might be portals to lower levels that extend into expansive underground caves," Nasa explained.
"If so, these naturally occurring tunnels are relatively protected from the harsh surface of Mars, making them relatively good candidates to contain Martian life.
"These pits are therefore also prime targets for possible future spacecraft, robots, and even human interplanetary explorers."

Mysterious interstellar object aiming at Earth 'not natural' as scientists rule out comet theory

The appearance of a mysterious interstellar object has reignited debate over whether extraterrestrial technology could be hiding in our solar system. NASA detected the object, dubbed 3I/ATLAS, on July 1, sparking a flurry of scientific analysis to determine its origin. While more than 200 researchers have concluded it is likely a comet, Harvard physicist Avi Loeb has raised doubts in a newly released pre-print paper, pointing to one glaring omission: 3I/ATLAS has no visible tail. 'There were claims of a tail,' Loeb said, 'but since 3I/ATLAS is accelerating and its current size is not much larger than the angular resolution of Earth-based telescopes, it is not easy to avoid fictitious elongation of the image as a result of the object's motion.' He also questioned the object's unusual lack of gas emissions and its precise, retrograde trajectory, which aligns suspiciously well with the inner solar system. Loeb has developed what he calls the 'Loeb Scale', a ranking system to evaluate the likelihood that an object is artificial, and gave 3I/ATLAS a six out of ten. That suggests it is more likely than not to be engineered, though he emphasized that this score may change as more data becomes available. Among his more provocative theories, Loeb suggested 3I/ATLAS could be an alien mothership releasing small probes to intercept Earth. 'The more likely scenario from an engineering perspective involves a mothership that releases mini-probes which perform a reverse Oberth maneuver to slow down at perihelion and intercept Earth,' Loeb wrote. This type of maneuver uses the sun's gravitational pull at the object's closest approach to adjust the trajectory efficiently, enabling the probes to reach Earth without large amounts of fuel. According to Loeb, these hypothetical probes could arrive between November 21 and December 5, 2025, based on 3I/ATLAS's expected position behind the sun in October, an ideal window for a covert approach. 'It may come to save us or destroy us,' he said. 'We'd better be ready for both options and check whether all interstellar objects are rocks.' Chris Lintott, an astronomer at the University of Oxford, dismissed Loeb's theory as 'nonsense on stilts,' calling it 'an insult to the exciting work going on to understand this object.' However, Loeb said his analysis remains rooted in observational data. His latest paper, based on ground-based telescope readings between July 2 and 29, revealed reddening colors in 3I/ATLAS, usually interpreted as surface dust or organic compounds. He noted that spectroscopic data from this and three previous studies show no signs of atomic or molecular gas in a coma, a feature typically expected in comets. While the reddening may suggest dust, it could also mean the object simply has a naturally red surface, much like D-type asteroids or other ancient space rocks. 'Continued monitoring around perihelion is necessary to track changes in activity and color,' the study concluded, 'which will provide insights into the evolution of interstellar materials under solar radiation.' Loeb has authored four scientific papers on 3I/ATLAS and recently proposed using NASA's Juno spacecraft to intercept the object near Jupiter in 2026, calling it a rare opportunity for 'interstellar archaeology.' He also believes governments should already be forming task forces, including scientists, policymakers and even psychologists, to determine how to respond and how to break the news to the public without triggering panic. If 3I/ATLAS is more than just a rock, he said, Earth is woefully unprepared. 'The visitor,' he warned, 'is already in our backyard.' Even if the object turns out to be artificial, Loeb admitted there's little humanity could do. At nearly 60 miles per second relative to Earth, it's moving far too fast for any of our current rockets to reach. Loeb has remained adamant that something about 3I/ATLAS does not add up. He said its retrograde orbit, meaning it's moving against the flow of the solar system, is oddly aligned with Earth's path 'If the hypothesis that 3I/ATLAS is a technological artifact proves correct, there are two possible implications: either its intentions are entirely benign, or they are malign, said Loeb. 'In the first case, humanity needs only to wait and welcome this interstellar messenger with open arms. It is the second scenario that causes serious concern.' He added that because the second possibility has serious consequences, we can use the idea behind Pascal's wager. 'Blaise Pascal argued that it's smarter to believe in God because the possible benefits of believing are much greater than the losses if you're wrong,' Loeb explained. 'Similarly, in our case, it makes sense to warn humanity about the risk from 3I/ATLAS, even if it turns out to be just a theory. 'The cost of not warning could be much worse than the cost of being wrong.'

The Artemis II astronauts are preparing for their trip around the Moon which is due in around six months time. The crew donned their space suits and got on board the Orion spacecraft for specialist training. The astronauts were connected up to the spacecraft and its control systems, allowing them to prepare for launch day and do sims of situations they might find themselves in during the mission. These tests help the crew get used to the kit they'll be using, but also to check all the equipment and plans so final adjustments can be made ahead of launch if Sean Duffy said: "Every milestone in the Artemis campaign brings us closer to landing Americans back on the Moon and pushing onward to Mars." What do the Artemis II suits look like? Teams tested out different situations so the crew could get practice dealing with any challenges that could arise during the mission. The astronauts also had the chance to check out the sleeping arrangements and the hygiene bay as well as learn how to review air quality levels. It means they'll be prepared to deal with any challenges they may face. The training days were also a chance to try on their bright orange space suits called the Orion Crew Survival System (OCSS). It's worn inside the Orion spacecraft on launch day, in emergency situations, in high-risk parts of the missions near the Moon and on their return to Earth. It's fitted specifically to each astronaut and has lots of tech to help protect the not the only spacesuit they'll have. Like many missions they'll also have another to wear outside the spacecraft during space walks and they work like a personal spaceship. American astronauts Christina Koch, Victor Glover and Reid Wiseman and Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen have been selected for the Artemis II Wiseman will be the mission's commander. He's a US Navy pilot who has also previously served as the head of Nasa's astronaut office. He's flown one previous mission to the International Space Station (ISS) back in astronaut Christina Koch is the only woman on the mission. She's an electrical engineer with a pretty impressive track record, having spent more time in space than any other 2019 she made the first all-female spacewalk along with fellow astronaut Jessica Navy test pilot Victor Glover is the third member of the Artemis II team. He joined Nasa in 2013 and made his first spaceflight in 2020. He was the first African American to stay on the space station for an extended period of six Hanson is the chosen Canadian astronaut on the team. He was a fighter pilot with the Royal Canadian Air Force before joining the Canadian Space Agency and he's yet to travel to space.

US wants to put a nuclear reactor on the moon in next ten years, NASA chief says

The United States wants to put a nuclear reactor on the moon in the next ten years, according to a NASA directive obtained by The Independent. President Donald Trump 's NASA chief Sean Duffy has expedited the timeline to build the reactor, and wants it to have at least 100 kilowatts of power - enough to run about 80 homes - and be ready to launch by 2030. The directive, first reported by Politico, mentions China and Russia 's joint effort to place a reactor on the moon by the mid-2030s. The two U.S. adversaries first announced their plans in March 2024. 'The first country to do so could potentially declare a keep-out zone which would significantly inhibit the United States from establishing a planned Artemis presence if not there first,' Duffy warned in the directive. NASA is working with the Energy Department and the broader space industry to design a fission power system that would provide at least 40 kilowatts of power. The space agency has already mentioned the benefits of developing fission surface power (FSP) on the moon and Mars. 'Relatively small and lightweight, fission systems are powerful and could enable robust operations on the Moon and Mars,' NASA states on its website. NASA's Artemis campaign aims to establish the first long-term presence on the moon. During Trump's inaugural address, he said the U.S. would launch astronauts 'to plant the stars and stripes on the planet Mars.' 'It is about winning the second space race,' a NASA senior official also told Politico. In Duffy's new timeline, a Fission Surface Power Program Executive will be designated within 30 days of the directive. The executive 'is empowered to provide reporting and updates with maximum transparency directly to the Administrator,' the NASA chief wrote. Within 60 days, NASA will ask for industry proposals for the nuclear reactor, according to the directive. The directive mentioned Trump's budget request for the 2026 fiscal year, which includes $350 million for a new program 'that will accelerate the development of high priority technologies for Mars, (i.e. FSP).' The funding would increase up to $500 million starting in 2027. Trump's budget request also proposes a huge cut to NASA, with The Planetary Society, a global non-profit space organization, reporting it's the smallest budget proposed for the agency since 1961.
