Tennis: Wimbledon brings out Beckham, Sharapova and other stars on Day 1 - Omni sports
Sharapova, the 2004 champion at the All England Club at age 17, posted a selfie with Beckham on Instagram with the caption: 'Let the (Wimbledon) games begin' with an emoji of a tennis balls.
Sharapova will be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame later this year.
Former England soccer captain Beckham was on the list of guests expected to attend Centre Court matches on Day 1. Others included Oscar-winning actor Eddie Redmayne and former England soccer coach Gareth Southgate.
Beckham is the only player to score for England at three World Cups. He is the co-owner of American club Inter Miami, which is led by Lionel Messi and was eliminated Sunday from the Club World Cup in the United States with a 4-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain.

Tennis: Sabalenka praying for no more Wimbledon upsets after battling win - Omni sports
World number one Aryna Sabalenka said she hopes there are "no more upsets" at Wimbledon after reaching the third round with a hard-fought 7-6 (7/4), 6-4 win over Marie Bouzkova on Wednesday. Several stars suffered shock first round exits from the All England Club, including second seed Coco Gauff, third seed Jessica Pegula and fifth seed Zheng Qinwen. Top seed Sabalenka was pushed hard by Bouzkova in Wednesday's opening match on Centre Court as her Czech opponent matched fire with fire in a bruising encounter. The first set went with serve until Sabalenka doubled-faulted in the 11th game to hand Bouzkova the chance to serve for the set. But the Belarusian broke back with a searing backhand down the line and came out on top in the tie-break to establish a foothold in the match. Sabalenka broke again in the fifth game of the second set to move within sight of victory and closed out the match with little fuss. She will face 2021 US Open winner Emma Raducanu or former Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova in the third round on Friday. Although Sabalenka is a three-time Grand Slam champion, she has suffered agonising three-set defeats in this year's Australian Open and French Open finals. The 27-year-old has never been beyond the Wimbledon semi-finals and missed last year's tournament with a shoulder injury. Chelsea sign Brazil striker Joao Pedro from Brighton
Pedro jetted to the United States, where Chelsea are playing in the Club World Cup, on Sunday after the terms of his eight-year contract were agreed.
