Meril Life Sciences, a leading global med-tech company, marked a significant milestone with the launch of MyClip, India's first Transcatheter Edge-To-Edge Repair (TEER) system, on June 14. The landmark Structural Heart Innovation event, held at Meril Academy, Vapi (Gujarat) from June 13–15, brought together over 150 Indian interventional cardiologists along with cardiac imaging expert and international stalwarts, including Prof. Ottavio Alfieri ('Father of mitral valve repair'), Prof. Francesco Maisano, and Prof. Agricola, joining global pioneers in edge-to-edge mitral valve repair.
Meril is currently the world's leading TAVI group following the success of Myval THV and first Indian company to introduce a TEER system, placing the country firmly on the map as an innovator in transcatheter heart valve therapies (with both replacement and repair technology platforms). MyClip introduction demonstrates India's growing capabilities in structural heart solutions and reflects Meril's commitment to accessible cutting-edge cardiac care.
MyClip TEER System is designed for patients suffering from severe Mitral Regurgitation (MR) who are at high surgical risk due to pre-existing issues like hypertension, diabetes, obesity, advanced age, physical frailty, enlarged or weak heart, and patients with kidney, lung and liver problems. MR, particularly if untreated, has a devastating mortality rate—over 50% of patients may not survive without timely intervention, and 1-year mortality can be as high as 57%.
The MyClip TEER System enables precise closure of the mitral valve flaps, effectively preventing the backward flow of purified blood into the lungs. The procedure is minimally invasive, & takes approximately one hour, and allows patients to return home within 3–5 days. After discharge, patients can resume daily activities like walking and non-strenuous work within a short period post the procedure.
According to the landmark COAPT Study published in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), patients receiving device-based therapy for mitral regurgitation experienced significantly better outcomes compared to those receiving standard medical treatment. Within 24 months, the hospitalization rate for heart failure was reduced to 35.8% per patient-year in the device group, compared to 67.9% in the control group. Additionally, mortality within the same period was notably lower in the device group, at 29.1%, compared to 46.1% in the control group.
Currently, approximately 150 TEER (Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge Repair) procedures are performed annually in India, with the majority of patients falling in the younger age group (30 – 60). These statistics bring to light a pressing need for early and effective intervention in younger demographics.
The launch of MyClip TEER System marks a transformative moment for structural heart therapy in India. Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge Repair (TEER) therapy has shown significant success over traditional Guideline Directed Medical Therapy (GDMT). MyClip represents a major step forward in India's cardiovascular treatment landscape.
In his inaugural speech, Sanjeev Bhatt, Senior Vice President of Corporate Strategy at Meril Life Sciences, said, 'In India, around 1.5 million people are known to have severe mitral regurgitation. Of these at least 1.2 million are post myocardial infarction (MI or a heart attack) or due to heart failure. Introduction of the MyClip TEER system marks a pivotal shift and we're witnessing early adoption. Meril's efforts in training cardiologists and building TEE-based imaging expertise are crucial steps in scaling this life-saving therapy across the country."

The event concluded with a call to build a sustainable M-TEER ecosystem in India, focused on accessibility, clinical excellence, and continuous innovation.

Furthermore, initiatives such as the Atal Tinkering Labs have proved to be a catalyst in this regard, being supplemented by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 that has detailed robotics and STEM education in K-12 education space, creating a funnel for more advanced educational & research platforms. The objective of these introductions is clear — to establish a robust Robotics ecosystem in the country, that can be used by millions of talents, professionals and other stakeholders to drive the country's vision in the future, while also assisting them in garnering professional excellence and financial assistance. Robotics education: A catalyst for professional aspirations? While the concepts of Robotics are not really new, the emergence of AI is transforming it dramatically. The world is integrating the two technologies to create solutions that are not only superior but also transform how we perceive work irrespective of its functionalities. This is where trained professionals in contemporary robotics education will be of particular value to the national interest, while also bridging the present gap in the space. At present, a Robotics Engineer in India with a mid-level experience of 5 years, can earn up to 10 lakh per annum. However, it is a serious challenge for organizations to get professionals with ample experience and capabilities in the domain, offering a unique opportunity for talents. This concern can be essentially addressed by establishing a robust education in Robotics and its intricacies around the country. The Indian government and a few state governments are already working on making this a reality, however, the push must also come from traditional educational bodies like colleges and universities. The Indian EdTech space has already pointed this aspect out and has been offering supplementary courses that will help professionals hone their skills as per the industrial requirements. This can help professionals to integrate themselves into the industry by equipping them with era-appropriate knowledge, and capabilities and most importantly, creating a supply line of talents to the industry stakeholders. Looking Ahead The foundations are carefully being laid by the Indian public and private sectors for the creation of a robust Robotics ecosystem in the country. However, the long-term efficacy of the efforts will depend on the talents themselves, and their innovation will be the primary catalysts for evolving the space into a full-fledged sector to drive India's national ambitions. In the coming decade, more Indian talents must look beyond coding and programming, skills that would soon be engulfed with AI coming in as a more time and cost-effective solution and instead look for more innovative technological skills. Robotics would be the perfect suitor in this aspect and could prove to be the catalyst of the professional ambitions and financial incentives Indian talents are looking for in the long term.

Axiom Mission-4 Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, the second Indian to reach space and the first to reach the International Space Station (ISS), spoke with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, sharing a glimpse of Indian culture and his awe-inspiring experience in space. During the interaction, Shukla revealed he brought traditional Indian treats—gajar ka halwa, moong dal ka halwa and aam ras—for himself and fellow astronauts, who all enjoyed the rich flavours. 'Yes, I brought gajar ka halwa, moong dal ka halwa and aam ras. I wanted everyone who has joined me from other countries to enjoy the rich Indian culinary. All of us had it together and everyone liked it,' said Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla to PM Modi. Reflecting on his first view of India from orbit, Shubhanshu Shukla described the country as 'very big and grand.' He explained, 'Jab pehli baar Bharat ko dekha, Bharat sach mein bohat bhavya dikta hain, jitna ham map pe dekhten hain, usse kahin jyada bada (When we saw India for the first time, we saw that India looks very grand, very big, much bigger than what we see on the map).' Shubhanshu Shukla's statements seemed to echo a similar statement made by Rakesh Sharma, the first Indian to reach Space. Rakesh Shamra when talking to India's then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, has replied "Sarein Jahan se achcha, Hindustan Humara', when the latter asked him how India looked like from up above. Shubhanshu Shukla also shared the unique experience of witnessing 16 sunrises and sunsets a day while orbiting, adding, 'Our nation is moving forward at a very great pace.' From the International Space Station (ISS), Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla observed the Earth as a borderless entity. 'The first view was of the Earth and after seeing the Earth from outside, the first thought and the first thing that came to mind was that the Earth looks completely one, no border is visible from outside. When we see the Earth from outside, it seems that no border exists, no state exists, no countries exist. We all are part of humanity, and the Earth is our one home, and all of us are in it,' he said. As the second Indian to reach space, Shubhanshu Shukla expressed immense pride in the country's achievement. 'I am feeling very emotional and happy after having a conversation with you and 140 crore Indians. I feel very proud as India has reached the International Space is a collective achievement of the whole nation,' he said. Shubhanshu Shukla urged young people to persevere and dream big. 'The message I would like to give our young generation is that India has seen very bold and high dreams and to fulfil those dreams, we need all of you. There is no single way to success, but one thing that is common in every path is that you should never stop trying. If you adopt this basic mantra, then success may come today or tomorrow, but it will definitely come.' He added, 'I want to send a message to the younger generation that if you work hard, the future of the nation will be good. The sky is never the limit.' With India's first human space mission, Gaganyaan, entering its final phase, Shubhanshu Shukla is absorbing every lesson. 'I am confident that these lessons will be highly valuable for us and that we will apply them effectively in the coming missions,' he said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the growing enthusiasm among India's youth for science and space exploration. 'There is a new enthusiasm to explore space... Today, children not only look at the sky, but they think they can reach it. This spirit is the base of our future space missions... We have to take Mission Gaganyaan forward, we have to make our own space station, and we have to ensure that an Indian astronaut lands on the Moon,' he said. Shubhanshu Shukla revealed that Indian scientists have prepared seven unique experiments for the mission. 'I can say with great pride that for the first time Indian scientists have prepared seven unique experiments which I have brought here to the station. The first experiment, which is scheduled today, is on stem experiment focuses on how we can prevent or delay muscle loss in space by taking a specific supplement. We will also see if these supplements can be beneficial for older people on Earth as well,' he explained.

Hyderabad: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, after inaugurating the headquarters of the National Turmeric Board in Nizamabad on Sunday, said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has fulfilled a 40-year-old demand of millions of turmeric farmers across the country, particularly in Telangana. Addressing a farmer's meeting where he had also unveiled the logo of the NTB, he said 'This promise made by the Prime Minister is now being realized. Nizamabad, known as the turmeric capital for decades and a location where farmers have cultivated turmeric for centuries, has not seen its product reach global markets until now.' However, with the formation of the National Turmeric Board, 'Turmeric from Nizamabad will be exported to many countries within the next 3-4 years,' he added. Amit Shah mentioned that once the NTB begins its operations, farmers will be free from the shackles of the middlemen. 'The Board will create a comprehensive chain for turmeric packaging, branding, marketing, and export.' Highlighting the medicinal properties of turmeric, Shah said, 'It is anti-viral, anti-cancer, and anti-inflammatory, and is recognized worldwide as a wonder drug. Consuming even a small amount can address multiple health issues simultaneously.' He also noted the beginning of production and marketing of GI-tagged organic turmeric.' Amit Shah said that the Centre has set a target of achieving one billion dollars in turmeric exports by 2030, 'with all necessary preparations already in place. The National Turmeric Board will ensure that farmers receive maximum value for their products, promote turmeric consumption in international markets, and publicise the medicinal benefits of Indian turmeric worldwide.' Additionally, the Board will ensure that the quality and safety standards of Indian turmeric meet global benchmarks, arrange for appropriate packaging, and provide training and skill development to farmers on effective harvesting techniques to prevent export-related obstacles. The Union Home Minister further added that research and development on the health benefits of turmeric will be conducted to showcase these advantages globally. He underscored that Nizamabad, Jagtial, Nirmal, and Kamareddy districts of the State are among the top turmeric-producing areas in the country. He recalled that in 2025, turmeric farmers received prices between Rs 18,000 to Rs 19,000 per quintal. Concerted efforts are underway to increase the price to an additional Rs 6,000 to Rs 7,000 per quintal over the next three years. In the 2023-24 season, turmeric was cultivated in 3,00,000 hectares in India, yielding 10.74 lakh tonnes. The Union Minister highlighted that Prime Minister Modi established National Cooperative Exports Limited (NCEL) to assist farmers engaged in exports and National Cooperative Organics Limited (NCIL) for those involved in organic farming. Shah noted that Modi has cultivated a culture of keeping promises, and the commitment made in 2023 to establish the National Trade Bureau (NTB) has been fulfilled.
