Yahoo14-04-2025
An Olyphant man — wanted by state parole authorities for criminal attempt to commit aggravated assault stemming from a shooting — was arrested Friday in the borough.
When members of the U.S. Marshals Service, Pennsylvania State Parole, Olyphant Police Department and Lackawanna County Detectives Drug Unit responded to the 600 block of Susquehanna Avenue around 7:30 a.m. to serve an arrest warrant on Devante Herbert Graham — who police said is a Crips street gang member — they were told Graham was upstairs.
Investigators found him in a bedroom and took him into custody, according to a criminal complaint.

When Graham asked investigators for pants to put on, they found a plastic bag containing approximately 16.5 grams of cocaine in a pair of sweatpants, police said.
During a search of the apartment, investigators also found a bag containing a digital scale with cocaine residue, a debit card belonging to Graham, a blue bandana and a cellphone, officers said.
Graham told investigators the phone under the bed belonged to him and later admitted knowing he was wanted by state parole but never turned himself in, police said.
Investigators discovered approximately 10 grams of marijuana in medical marijuana bags with another person's name on them, marijuana wrapping papers, a marijuana grinder and a bottle containing six Oxycontin pills in the bedroom where Graham was staying, according to the criminal complaint.
Police charged Graham, 30, with possession with intent to deliver, flight to avoid apprehension, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
As of Monday, Graham remained in Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $250,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 24 at 9:45 a.m.

Delaware County man arrested in South Philadelphia mass shooting that injured 8 people, police say

A Delaware County man has been arrested for his role in the South Philadelphia mass shooting at a nightclub that injured eight people over the Fourth of July weekend, police said. The U.S. Marshals Service said Thursday 22-year-old Nino Dasilvio, of Darby, surrendered to law enforcement in Philadelphia with his attorney and family members "after days of negotiations." Philadelphia police said Dasilvo was charged with aggravated assault, weapons charges, possessing instruments of crime and other offenses. Dasilvo is the second person taken into custody in the shooting that happened at 7 Elements restaurant, bar and lounge on 11th Street and Washington Avenue on July 5, just before 4 a.m., according to police. Police have also charged 43-year-old Michael Welton, who was working as a security guard at the time of the shooting, with attempted murder, aggravated assault and other offenses. Police said Welton admitted to discharging a firearm in the shooting. Five men and three women, ranging in age from 25 to 43 years old, were wounded in the shooting. They were all placed in stable condition. Police said last week they're also looking for another suspect in the shooting. The shooting was one of two mass shootings in South Philadelphia within days of each other earlier this month. In Grays Ferry, a different mass shooting left three people dead and nine others wounded. Police are looking for multiple suspects in that case.

GOP's Graham, Cornyn call for special counsel probe of Barack Obama

1 of 2 | Former president Barack Obama energizes the crowd, urging attendees to get involved and vote in Philadelphia in 2024. Republican Sens. Lindsey Graham and John Cornyn have called for special counsel after Director of National Security Tulsi Gabbard released more unclassified documents about the Obama administration. File Photo by David Muse/UPI | License Photo July 24 (UPI) -- U.S. Republican Sens. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., and John Cornyn, R-Texas, are calling for a special counsel to investigate allegations against former President Barack Obama. The senators said they want the truth about Obama's alleged "manipulation" before the 2016 election. "For the good of the country, Senator @JohnCornyn and I urge Attorney General (Pam) Bondi to appoint a special counsel to investigate the extent to which former President Obama, his staff and administration officials manipulated the U.S. national security apparatus for a political outcome," Graham posted on X. A special counsel is someone brought from outside to investigate independently. "As we have supported in the past, appointing an independent special counsel would do the country a tremendous service in this case," Fox News reported Graham and Cornyn said. This call comes one day after Director of Homeland Security Tulsi Gabbard released a second formerly classified document alleging wrongdoing by Obama. The Department of Justice created a "strike force" to investigate the evidence. The document cast doubts on Russian President Vladimir Putin's desire to help Trump beat Secretary of State Hilary Clinton. It backed up the argument that Russia wanted to interfere in the election. It was part of a House Intelligence Committee report from Sept. 18, 2020, when Republicans controlled the House. Though it doesn't dispute that Moscow interfered in the election, it shows the Obama administration's handling of Russian activity. Last week, Gabbard released a document that accused Obama and his Cabinet of manufacturing an intelligence report to falsely accuse Russia of acting to ensure Trump defeated Clinton during the 2016 election. Obama's team responded to last week's report. "Nothing in that document issued last week undercuts the widely accepted conclusion that Russia worked to influence the 2016 presidential election but did not successfully manipulate any votes," Obama spokesman Patrick Rodenbush said in a prepared statement on Tuesday. "These findings were affirmed in a 2020 report by the bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee, led by then-Chairman Marco Rubio." "With every piece of information that gets released, it becomes more evident that the entire Russia collusion hoax was created by the Obama administration to subvert the will of the American people," Graham and Cornyn said. Trump earlier in the day accused Obama of "trying to lead a coup" with Hillary Clinton.

Gang jailed for £6m investment scam that targeted more than 150 victims

Six people behind a £6 million investment scam that targeted more than 150 victims have been jailed. Mastermind David Clarkson, 70, of Livesey Branch Road, Blackburn, was sentenced to seven and a half years at Southwark Crown Court on Tuesday having admitted conspiracy to defraud, money laundering and perverting the course of justice at an earlier hearing. The remaining defendants were all found guilty in March after a six-month trial and were also sentenced on Tuesday. The gang targeted mainly elderly victims aged between 60 and 90 with high-pressure sales tactics to push them into handing over money – one said she was 'hounded' into parting with her savings. They befriended some of the people they scammed, forged documents and impersonated insurance brokers in order to steal cash. The largest individual loss was £250,000. Lillian Milner, 57, of Sliven Clod Road, Rossendale, Lancashire, was jailed for five years and six months for conspiracy to defraud and money laundering, while her husband Graham Milner, 55, of the same address, received three years and six months for money laundering. Another two men were jailed for conspiracy to defraud and money laundering – Mark Fallon, 60, of Haslingden Old Road, Rossendale, Lancashire, was sentenced to four years and six months; and Anthony Flaton, 39, of Beauclerk Green, Winchfield, Hampshire, was jailed for five years. David Clarkson's son Paul Clarkson, 46, of Shawbridge Street, Clitheroe, Lancashire, was sentenced to 20 months' imprisonment, suspended for two years, and ordered to carry out 180 hours of unpaid work, for money laundering. City of London Police and bank staff managed to recover more than £2 million of the stolen money. One victim said in his impact statement: 'I have found it increasingly harder to face the day and rarely have a good night's sleep with difficulty finding the motivation to get on with the daily tasks at hand. 'Dealing with this case has been very overwhelming and mentally consuming, often leaving me feeling very depressed with a general loss of faith in humanity.' Lillian Milner bought herself a Porsche while many unsuspecting elderly victims lost their life savings. Detective Constable Jay Smith from City of London Police said: 'These fraudsters stole life savings from hundreds, abusing their trusted positions out of pure greed. 'Clarkson, in particular, showed no remorse – cloning a regulated insurer and impersonating the broker to trick victims and later forging medical documents to avoid trial. 'Faced with overwhelming evidence, he eventually pleaded guilty. 'I thank the victims and their families for their strength and co-operation, and we remember those who sadly passed during the process. I hope this result brings some comfort. 'We remain committed to pursuing those who abuse trust and exploit the vulnerable. Let this case be a warning: you will be found, prosecuted and convicted.' The police investigation was launched when suspicious payments were made by a company called Sable Intl Ltd to a newly formed law firm in August 2016. Sable claimed to invest in property, and opened a £3.5 million bond scheme offering fake returns of 7% to lure in victims. Police found that the trio behind the company, David Clarkson, Lillian Milner and Flaton, had links to an earlier investment scheme called Equitable Law Capital (ELC). In reality, none of the investments was genuine, with the trio using internet advertising, cold calling and company brochures to convince victims. Graham Milner and Paul Clarkson were appointed group directors of ELC when they had no relevant experience, and became involved in money laundering. A front company based in the Seychelles and Switzerland was used to disguise the fact the money had come from crime. Lillian Milner and Fallon, who was a solicitor, also used a newly set up law firm to launder money, with commission payments to Flaton going through an account in Mauritius. Both ELC and Sable went into administration and voluntary liquidation at the end of 2016, owing a total of more than £4 million.
