Catterall predicts bad ending for Eubank

Jack Catterall and Harlem Eubank in their final press conference, as Eddie Hearn looks on, ahead tonight's fight
JACK Catterall has warned Harlem Eubank that it is going to 'end badly for him' as he looks to make a winning return to the ring.
The pair meet in a welterweight clash at Manchester's AO Arena this evening with the Chorley fighter saying he has 'doubled down' on training since his defeat to Arnold Barboza Jr in February.

That defeat cost Catterall a shot at the light welterweight world title but, having stepped up a weight, the 32-year-old is now excited to step in against the unbeaten Eubank.
'We could have come back and chosen a different route, but these are the fights that excite me, the domestic clashes, and this is what I am here for,' he said.
'Harlem is undefeated, talented, and he's going to come with everything.
'A few years ago, I was in his position, waiting for that opportunity and chomping at the bit, so this is his opportunity, but I am here to prove I've still got it.'
Catterall, who has 30 wins and two defeats to his name - he went on to avenge the controversial defeat to Josh Taylor - believes he will be too good for the Brighton fighter.

'I've worked so hard up to this point, we had a stinker in the last fight, but I've doubled down, been training hard and I believe I am levels above him,' he added.
'I'm very confident, if he thinks he can come and knock me out he's got a big problem in front of him and it's going to end badly for him.'
Eubank is ready to face the 'best version' of Catterall but he insists he is ready to prove that he can compete at world level.
'I'm more than ready,' he said. ' I've been training behind the scenes for 11 years, working on the art form and I believe I'm ready to go in there and show the world what I am capable of up at World level.

'This is the level I've built myself to and the level I was destined for when I entered the sport. I laced up the gloves because I wanted to become a World champion, I've spent my time in the sport grafting away to get to this point and now is the chance to get in there and prove that a World championship is not too far away.
'I'm looking forward to seeing what he comes with. He's got the bit between his teeth, he's been away to America, so we're going to get the best version of Jack Catterall and that's exactly what I have been training for.'
Promoter Eddie Hearn says it is a 'must win' fight for Catterall and he is looking forward to the domestic blockbuster.
'Two guys in very different positions in their careers, and that's why I love this fight,' he said. ' Jack Catterall, we know the story, he should have been the undisputed champion, we expected him to be fighting Teofimo Lopez just a few months ago until he lost to Barboza.

'Now, up steps Harlem Eubank, 21-0, and a guy doing fantastically well on Channel 5 drawing big audiences, and he rolls the dice at World level.
'It's a must-win fight for Jack and a big opportunity for Harlem to gatecrash the World scene at 147lbs.'

World No. 1-ranked Aryna Sabalenka narrowly avoids major upset, advances to Wimbledon semifinal

No. 1-ranked Aryna Sabalenka narrowly defeated No. 104-ranked Laura Siegemund 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, to advance to the Wimbledon semifinals on Tuesday at the All England Club. Sabalenka, 27, was twice down a break in the third set before she surged and won the final three games of the set. "She pushed me so much," said Sabalenka after the match on the court. "After the first set, I was just looking at my box, thinking, 'Guys, I mean, book the tickets. I think we're about to leave this beautiful city, country, place.'" Sabalenka hadn't lost a set in this year's tournament until she dropped the first set against Siegemund in the quarterfinal. Siegemund, 37, plays an unorthodox style of tennis that can leave opponents flustered. Siegemund has the ability to change the depth, speed, angles and spins of her shots over and over, which can frustrate any opponent and dull the type of power that Sabalenka brings to the court. Sabalenka credited Siegemund for playing a "smart game." "It's not like it's an annoying game. It's a smart game. She's really making everyone work against her," Sabalenka said. "You know you have to work for every point. It doesn't matter if you're a big server, if you're a big hitter. You have to work. You have to run. And you have to earn the win." Siegemund was the oldest player and lowest-ranked player of the women in the quarterfinals. She arrived at the All England Club this year with a career record of 2-5 before going on to upset No. 6-ranked Madison Keys and pushing Sabalenka to the brink. For Sabalenka, the win moves her into the Wimbledon semifinals for the third time in her career. She lost in both of her prior Wimbledon semifinal appearances, in 2021 and 2023. Wimbledon is the only Grand Slam tournament in which Sabalenka has not appeared in the final. The world No. 1 has won the Australian Open twice, the U.S. Open once, and lost in the French Open. Sabalenka will take on American Amanda Anisimova in the semifinals on Thursday, where she will look to break through and reach the final at the grass-court Grand Slam tournament. Brentford contacted Ange Postecoglou about replacing Thomas Frank after Tottenham exit

Brentford contacted former Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou about replacing Thomas Frank. In what would have been an extraordinary sequence of events and effectively a job swap, Brentford considered Postecoglou as an option to succeed Frank, who left to join Tottenham on a three-year deal after they sacked the 59-year-old Australian. Advertisement Brentford director of football Phil Giles held informal discussions with Postecoglou but he was not interviewed for the role, as both parties agreed moving forward was not the best option. Other candidates Brentford considered included former Ajax head coach Francesco Farioli, who has now joined Porto, but they instead promoted set-piece coach Keith Andrews. Postecoglou joined Spurs in June 2023 and he guided them to a fifth-place finish in his first season. His second year in charge was disrupted by a crippling injury crisis. Spurs lost 22 league matches and finished 17th but won the Europa League after beating Manchester United in the final. Postecoglou delivered Spurs their first piece of silverware in 17 years but he was sacked two weeks after that famous victory in Bilbao. Frank, who had been in charge of Brentford for nearly seven years, replaced Postecoglou. Andrews, a former Republic of Ireland international, joined Brentford as their set-piece coach last summer and worked under Frank for a year. The 44-year-old's familiarity with the squad and strong presentation ensured he was the first-choice candidate. Andrews was officially appointed as Brentford's new head coach on a three-year contract at the end of June. At an introductory press conference for Andrews, which was held last week, Giles spoke about the hiring process. 'There's always going to be some degree of risk,' Giles said. 'It's more risky to go and get a coach we don't know from a club where the environment might be different or maybe people around them made them successful. This is actually quite a low-risk appointment because I know how good Keith is.' (Justin Tallis/AFP via Getty Images)
