Decoding those Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau dating rumours, after they were spotted at dinner

Cosmopolitan15 hours ago
Today in news that no one could have possibly predicted, it looks like Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau are kinda/maybe/sorta dating? Or at the very least they were spotted having dinner — during what looks to be a cozy night out.
TMZ broke the news (and has pics!) of Katy and the former Canadian Prime Minister eating at what they refer to as "a swanky restaurant in Montreal," where eyewitnesses report that they "sipped cocktails and shared several dishes ... including one with lobster."
For what it's worth, Katy is currently in Canada on tour — so maybe they're just catching up? Or maybe this is a date, who can say! Either way, a couple things to note:
1. Justin split from his wife Sophie in 2023, after 18 years of marriage.
2. Katy and Orlando Bloom called it quits earlier this year, with their rep confirming the news to Us Weekly by saying "Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on coparenting. They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is — and always will be — raising their daughter with love, stability and mutual respect."
Meanwhile, a source told People that "Katy and Orlando have been suffering through the same problems that have plagued them for years. [They had] too much going on in their lives, which makes it hard to find time for each other and iron out disagreements. When they don't communicate properly, their relationship dips to a low level."
This insider added that they'd "been living on an island of stress" and that "sometimes love isn't enough to keep two people with different styles and outlooks on how things are done [together]. It can overshadow the love."

Sheeran fan flies 3,000 miles to sing at castle

A Canadian Ed Sheeran tribute act who took himself on a 3,000-mile (4,828 km) pilgrimage inspired by the star said he could "feel" the singer's presence in a Suffolk town. Benoit Plamondon has flown to the UK from his home in Quebec City, where he believes he is Canada's only Sheeran tribute act. Mr Plamondon is staying with his friend Hayley Judge, from south London, who claims to be the UK's only female Sheeran tribute act. The pair travelled to Framlingham Castle in Suffolk, which Sheeran wrote about in his song Castle on the Hill, where they filmed their own videos and performed his songs. "I knew him from the songs on the radio," Mr Plamondon said of how he discovered Sheeran. "As soon as I saw a video of Shape of You live with the looper, I told myself I need that thing. "Then I bought the single looper, the dual looper, so Ed Sheeran, you've cost me an arm and a leg." The two musicians met online a few years ago through their love of Sheeran and would regularly chat on FaceTime. Ms Judge, accompanied with a sign that read Welcome Mr Sheeran, picked Mr Plamondon up from the airport which was when the pair met in person for the first time. On Tuesday they took a visit to Framlingham Castle. "I feel like I'm in the songs now, it's amazing, we can understand everything, we can feel it," Mr Plamondon said of the area. "I need to shake his hand and just say, 'Thanks man, you've made me a better performer', I need to see him one day." Ms Judge agreed it was a "special" place and felt "unreal", with both agreeing Sheeran's essence could be felt. Follow Suffolk news on BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram and X. The Mission: Impossible star and the Oscar-nominated actress first sparked dating rumors in February, when they were photographed during a night out in London. When de Armas and Cruise were first spotted together, a source told PEOPLE that they were at dinner with their agents "discussing potential collaborations down the line" and noted at the time that the actors "appeared to have no romantic connection, just friends." They were photographed together again several times over the following weeks, including as they left David Beckham's 50th birthday party in London on May 3 and on a park walk in the U.K. capital on de Armas' 37th birthday days earlier. Over the summer, outings for the pair have included a trip aboard a yacht in Spain and, more recently, an Oasis concert at London's Wembley Stadium over the weekend. Cruise and de Armas were spotted taking in the band's performance together in the background of English producer and DJ Goldie's Instagram video he shared from the show. Goldie, 59, also shared a selfie he took with Cruise from the concert. In May, de Armas confirmed that she was working on multiple projects with Cruise — one of which has been confirmed to be the upcoming Doug Liman-directed supernatural ocean thriller Deeper. The two actors "have a special work relationship," a source told PEOPLE earlier this month, adding that de Armas has "prepped" all summer for Deeper, their first project together. "Tom is crazy hardworking and she's very excited to work with him. She calls it an opportunity of a lifetime," the insider said, adding in part, "Tom is an incredible mentor to Ana. She has nothing but amazing things to say about him." Cruise was previously married to Mimi Rogers, Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes, and is dad to three children: daughter Isabella, 32, and son Connor, 30, with Kidman, 58, as well as 19-year-old daughter Suri with Holmes, 46. Meanwhile, de Armas was most recently linked to Manuel Anido Cuesta, the stepson of Cuba's president Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez. The Knives Out actress previously dated Tinder executive Paul Boukadakis. Before that, de Armas was in a relationship with her Deep Water costar Ben Affleck from March 2020 until their "completely amicable" split in January 2021, as a source told PEOPLE at that time. Another vehicle became involved when debris hit it. While all three cars needed towed following the incident, all drivers were wearing the seatbelts and no injuries were reported in the fallout of the crash. More from the TMZ report on what's next for McMahon: McMahon was issued a misdemeanor summons for reckless driving and following too closely resulting in an accident.
