3 litres for 1.5km drive: Jam fuels frustration of techies on Bengaluru's Outer Ring Road
Frustrated commuters Tuesday took to social media, sharing dashboard screenshots that revealed shocking levels of fuel consumption and barely moving traffic.
In one case, a commuter reported using 3.2 litres of fuel to cover just 3.3km in 45 minutes. Another said his car guzzled 3 litres over a 1.5km crawl that took 22 minutes. Typically, cars offer mileage between 8 and 15 kmpl, but in these gridlocked conditions, it efficiency nosedived to as low as 3-6 kmpl as helpless techies waited for hours with the engine on to keep the air-conditioning running.
"This is outrageous," posted Akshay, a software engineer, on X. "Sarjapur Road traffic is getting out of hand! Every day feels like a test of patience — jam-packed, inch-by-inch movement. When will we see a real solution to this chaos?"

Another commuter, Krishna B, posted: "My car, a Honda Civic, shows I burned nearly 3 litres of fuel just to move 2.1km. It took me close to 50 minutes. That's almost Rs 300 worth of petrol gone, and I didn't even leave my neighbourhood!"
Shanaya R, who works in a fintech company near Ecospace and drives an MG Hector, told TOI: "This is becoming unbearable.

Ravi Kumar, a resident of Kasavanahalli, added: "In the time it takes to cross 2.5km, I could've driven to Electronics City and back under normal conditions. The car is literally burning petrol while standing still.
It's bad for the wallet, bad for the environment, and even worse for our mental health."
Vishnu Prasad, a member of Save Bellandur Forum, blamed the issue on poor planning. "The problem is straightforward — people can't even step out of their homes. In Haralur, Kasavanahalli, and Doddakannelli, roads are narrow. Apartments are sprouting up everywhere, but there's no investment in public transport. We've asked for mini-buses many times, but nothing has happened. The Metro may arrive by 2031, but what till then? Tech parks in the area are equally responsible as they are allowing constructions without accounting for traffic flow.

Centre may seek details on missing auto PLI claims
The Centre is set to investigate why many beneficiaries of the ₹25,938 crore PLI-Auto scheme haven't claimed incentives despite approvals. Launched in September 2021, the scheme aims to boost domestic auto manufacturing through incremental production and local value addition. Supply chain issues are cited as a hurdle. Remove Ads The Centre is likely to call for information from around 50 beneficiaries of the Production-Linked Incentive scheme for the automobile and auto component industry (PLI-Auto scheme) who are yet to submit any incentive claims in the last two years despite having the requisite approvals, officials step is a part of a larger review of the scheme, for ascertaining reasons behind its faltering, they said, adding just a third of the more than 80 intended beneficiaries have raised claims so far."We are trying to figure out what changed since the scheme launched," a senior official told ET. Some intended beneficiaries have cited supply chain constraints as a reason for not meeting the scheme goals, according to people aware of the PLI-Auto scheme was approved in September 2021 with a ₹25,938 crore budgetary outlay. Incentives were to be disbursed for meeting incremental production, investment, and domestic value addition (DVA) goals, among others from 2023-24 onwards."There are very stringent DVA criteria under PLI-Auto...A techno-commercial audit is in-built to ensure localisation," one of the officials said, emphasising that several large original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), who have complied with the scheme's goals and received incentives, are reporting that a domestic component industry is developing due to this strict mandate."Beneficiaries are supposed to ensure Tier two, three, and four suppliers comply with domestic manufacturing," the official OEMs have raised claims totalling more than ₹2,000 crore for achieving the scheme's goals in FY25. Officials said claims worth Rs 322 crore have been released so far for the scheme's goals achieved in FY24.A decision to figure out the root cause of PLI-Auto not living up to expectations was taken during a review of the scheme by the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) last week. The scheme has attracted domestic investments worth ₹29,576 crore until March 2025. It was also decided that MHI will handhold applicants on operational aspects such as claims and DVA compliance.

Aapli Bus Sets Ridership Record: Over 1.54 Lakh Passengers in a Day
1 2 Nagpur: In a major milestone for Nagpur's public transport, the city's Aapli Bus service ferried over 1.54 lakh passengers on Tuesday, July 15 — the highest single-day ridership recorded so far. The feat also brought in revenue of Rs28.88 lakh, boosted by a growing share of digital payments. Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) officials attributed the surge to improved connectivity, affordability, and a recent push to modernize services. "We are witnessing a steady shift towards digital transactions, which is key to making urban transport smarter and more efficient," said an official from the transport department. NMC commissioner and administrator Abhijeet Chaudhari termed July 15 a landmark for the civic body's transport wing and praised staff efforts. He visited the NMC headquarters on Wednesday to review a pilot project for automated passenger counting, currently running on 30 long buses (12-metre). He directed officials to expand the system across the fleet to enable data-driven operations.
