The Newt sources 6,000 plants for Chelsea Flower Show exhibit
The Newt in Somerset is a headline sponsor for the show, which takes place from 20 to 24 May with up to 168,000 visitors.
For this year's exhibit, 6,000 rare succulent plants have been sourced from South Africa's Karoo Region by the Newt in Somerset and its sister estate, Babylonstoren.

It's a mammoth task and a first in the show's history. But it also features a deeper underlying message about the importance of conserving drought-resistant plants in the face of climate change.
Thousands of rare plants will be featured in the Newt's 45 metres by 15 metres exhibit area, showcasing the indigenous succulents in a semi-desert landscape among rock formations.
The garden is divided into six distinct vignettes, including a 'quiver tree forest' on a shale hill, a collection of succulent bulbs, shimmering quartz fields dotted with small, gem-like succulents, and the famous butter bush alongside fan aloes.

A spokesperson for The Newt said: 'The heart of South Africa is immense and mercilessly dry and as the world faces the impact of climate change, we can learn from these small, tenacious succulents, which survive in harsh conditions.'
'Resilient, adaptable, easy to grow and good for indoor air quality, these unique specimens are an appealing choice for urban gardeners. After the show, the garden will be relocated at The Newt in Somerset.'
Other exhibits at Chelsea Flower Show this year include a partnership between BBC Radio 2 and Monty Don to create a dog-friendly space. It will be Monty Don's first garden at the event.

Daniel Turner: It's Been A Rough Couple Of Years For The Climate Change Warriors
Founder and Executive Director of Power The Future joins Fox Across America With Jimmy Failla to explain why elite liberals and Hollywood celebrities who are obsessed with climate change are finding it increasingly difficult to persuade Americans that this is an urgent matter. 'It's why they've spent hundreds of millions of dollars trying to convince us that otherwise. Al Gore was in Brazil at the World Economic Forum Climate Summit screaming the same things he's been screaming for 40, 50 years. And President Trump and the EPA had a very big ruling, nerdy stuff in the weeds that we won't get into, but getting rid of the endangerment finding that the left is going to go crazy and they're gonna say this is the end, this is the end. But how many years have we heard this is the end? And then you see Sydney Sweeney and you're like, maybe it's just the beginning. Maybe we're headed in a great direction again as a nation, as a people. It's glorious to behold.' Daniel Turner Explains Why Climate Change Has Never Resonated With Americans Jimmy and Daniel also talk about how many of the people who are planning to vote for Zohran Mamadani in the New York City mayoral election can afford to do so because they won't be impacted by many of the changes he is proposing. 'Takalani Sesame is a much-loved educational brand that has supported generations of young South African children with fun and engaging learning,' said Gwarube in a statement. 'Sesame Workshop aligns with our vision to put our youngest citizens first and prioritise early learning as a national imperative. We are delighted to celebrate Sesame Workshop's 25th anniversary because it is also a celebration of children as South Africa's greatest assets,' Gwarube continued. 'The Department of Basic Education has been in our corner since day one. It fills me with much joy and gratitude to be celebrating our birthday with the DBE,' Nwaneri said. On Thursday, celebrations also took place at the SABC offices, marking the day the first episode aired. 'The SABC has truly been a wonderful partner to Takalani Sesame, providing us with a platform for the show to reach millions of South African children over the last 25 years,' Nwaneri said. 'It's been a beautiful journey, one in which we have seen many famous and familiar faces on our SABC TV screens, including our late Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and childhood heroes Banyana Banyana, to musicians like Sho Madjozi, and comedians such as David Kau and The Goliaths.' Jacqui Hlongwane, genre manager for SABC Education and Children, said in a statement: 'For 25 years, Takalani Sesame has supported early childhood education, health and social inclusion, helping the SABC deliver on its children's education and language mandates through accessible, engaging and culturally relevant content.' 'Importantly, the show, which is currently on air, is broadcast in most of South Africa's official languages, further ensuring its accessibility and resonance with children across the country,' Hlongwane added. 'We extend our warmest congratulations and wish Takalani Sesame a very happy birthday.'
