Kajol, one of the queens of the 90s with the Midas touch, has been away from the big screen since her last release, 'Salaam Venky' (2022). Though the actress kept her fans engaged with her OTT projects like 'Lust Stories 2' and 'Do Patti,' her big-screen return was highly awaited.
And with her latest release 'Maa', the actress finally made that 70MM comeback! Released on June 27, the movie opened with decent numbers and saw a growth in the business on its debut weekend at the box office.
'Maa box office update'
Directed by Vishal Furia, the first-day collection of 'Maa' was Rs 4.65, according to sacnilk.com. The pre-release predictions said that the movie will make something between Rs. 3.50-Rs.4.50, but the opening day number surprised those estimates.
Further, on Saturday, the weekend magic worked, bringing in more audience to the theatres. With a 29.03 per cent rise, day 2 saw the film adding Rs 6 crore to its tally. Then day 3, i.e. Sunday, according to the early estimates, the movie was able to maintain a steady pace. It collected Rs. 6.75 crore, taking the box office collection of Maa to Rs. 17.40 crore after its debut weekend. At this pace, the movie will soon reach the Rs 20 crore mark.

'Maa'
Alongside Kajol, 'Maa' boasts an ensemble cast.
Actors like Ronit Roy, Indraneil Sengupta, Kherin Sharma, and more add their charm to the story. And speaking of the story, it is a tale that features a mother transforming into Goddess Kali to break a sinister curse rooted in fear, blood, and betrayal.
As aforementioned, the movie is Kajol's comeback, and just like the audience, the actress was excited to return to the big screen. Expressing her contentment, she told ANI, 'I am very excited.
My film is releasing in theatres after a long time and I am extremely happy about it.
'Every actor has to reinvent himself or herself with time. I had never thought I would do a horror film, but here we are. I am extremely proud of this film. The script is quite good. I am a big mythological buff. I love our Indian mythology. We have so many stories. So, I think it was one of my favourite stories. I am very grateful that I have done this film. I think we have made a very good film. Now the audience will tell... But, Maa ki kasam, humne achhi film banai hai,' she concluded her statement with a laugh.

Kajol Denies The Notion Of 'Bollywood Camps': 'It Was Just A Comfort Level'

Kajol said that the camp system eluded her and that she worked with everybody. Kajol has been in the film industry for a long time now. In a recent chat with Times Now, she was asked if camps exist in Bollywood. Kajol dismissed the idea of camps and said that people work based on comfort. She also reflected on her husband Ajay Devgn's equation with Shah Rukh Khan- her long-time collaborator. Reflecting on camps in Bollywood, Kajol said, 'I don't know whether there are camps anymore. There weren't camps, just friends or certain people who have worked with certain people. More than camps, it was a comfort level of whom you've worked and not worked with. I didn't have a camp; I worked with everybody. The camp system eluded me." When asked if Ajay Devgn was ever insecure of her friendship with Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol shared, 'Nothing at all, they were pretty much rumours. Genuinely, nothing really happened. They weren't like 'Oh buddy, let's share a beer,' but today they truly respect each other." Kajol shared that she and Ajay Devgn have accepted that they don't need to have the same friends. 'There's no awkwardness, that's a boundary really. As people, we are individuals. I will like some things, he will not like some things and vice versa. We both decided that that's fine. As long as I don't have to sit down and whatever, I am fine, you go ahead, have friends and do whatever you want," she said. Meanwhile, on the work front, Kajol is currently seen in Maa. News18 gave the film 3/5 stars. Our review read, 'As much as the film tried to showcase Bengali culture and traditions, it also feels like it's again bringing to light the kind of mumbo jumbo that's always been doing the rounds. And that was again a disappointing factor. Having said that, certain scenes and jump scares in the movie do give you goosebumps, but unfortunately, don't leave you impressed at a stretch to change your idea about how the film pans out." 'Overall, it's a one-time watch and needs a lot more to even become a notable film from the series or the universe of Shaitaan, which was released in 2024, starring R Madhavan and Ajay Devgn in the lead roles," the review also mentioned. Karan Johar on being trolled: ‘Thank God they're not indifferent, I must be relevant'

In an age where celebrities are constantly under scrutiny, Karan Johar has offered a refreshingly different perspective on internet trolling. In a recent interview, the filmmaker opened up about how he handles the constant barrage of online hate, and why he chooses to view it as a strange form of validation. 'Love and hate are both forms of appreciation' Karan , who directed last year's Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, said that while being attacked online can be emotionally taxing, he chooses to see the silver lining. 'The good thing about being trolled or attacked is that, thank God, they are not being indifferent. I think love and hate are both forms of appreciation,' he explained. He added that silence or apathy would hurt more. 'Imagine if you've done something and no one is talking about it. That is the worst feeling,' he told Barkha Dutt for Mojo Story. Known for his flamboyant fashion and unfiltered opinions, Karan has often found himself in the eye of online storms. But instead of shying away, he's decided to wear it as a badge of honour. 'Even if they're b**ching about what I'm saying, what I'm wearing, or what I'm doing, I think to myself—I must really annoy people. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Uber luxury living at Hyderabad's billionaire junction Sumadhura Group Learn More Undo And then I'm like, how fabulous is that?' he said with a laugh. The latest report states that Kannappa has collected ₹ 1.56 crore on its fourth day of release, its first Monday at theatres. Kannappa made an opening day haul of ₹ 9.35 crore and went on to collect ₹ 7.15 crore on its first Saturday. With ₹ 6.9 crore on its third day, the film did not show much growth over the weekend. The overall collection of the film now stands at ₹ 24.96 crore. On Monday, Vishnu took to his X account to share that the film has fallen prey to piracy. He wrote in a note, 'Kannappa is under attack from piracy. Over 30,000 illegal links have already been taken down. This is heartbreaking. Piracy is theft — plain and simple. We don't teach our children to steal. Watching pirated content is no different. Please don't encourage it. Support cinema the right way.' The film received mixed reviews for its VFX scenes. At a press conference, Vishnu stated that editor Anthony and he had taken the decision to remove some scenes from the film because the VFX wasn't up to par with what they expected. 'It's a massive lesson for me, though. It's such a lesson that I'll never repeat that mistake again. But a lot of people watching the film didn't even realise it. The team was happy that no one cared about it,' he said. Kannappa, directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh, has been written by Vishnu and produced by Mohan Babu. It is based on the legend of Kannappa in Hinduism, a devotee of God Shiva. The film also stars Mohanlal, Preity Mukhundhan, Kajal Aggarwal, Mohan Babu, R Sarathkumar, Arpit Ranka, Brahmanandam, Brahmaji, Siva Balaji, Kaushal Manda, and Rahul Madhav among others.
