Kendrick & SZA's Grand National Tour Cements How They're Two Sides Of The Same Coin

Yahoo13-06-2025
Kendrick Lamar and SZA just make sense.
It all started in 2014 with 'Babylon' off SZA's Z EP. Since then, we've been blessed with 'untitled 04 | 08.14.2014' from his untitled unmastered., 'Doves In The Wind' from her CTRL, 'All The Stars' from the Black Panther soundtrack, '30 For 30' from SOS Deluxe: LANA, and of course, gnx's 'gloria,' and chart-dominating 'luther.'
Aptly, their musical and poetic relationship was commemorated with their Grand National Tour. Complete with an opening DJ set by Mustard, fans piled into the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles for the second of a three-night stint to honor their hometown hero and his ethereal work wife.
The entire show played out like a movie. The on-screen opening credits showed Kendrick and SZA under an abandoned overpass, as a script typography style commonly associated with Mexican culture wrote out certain phrases and symbols while drawing out the Grand National. It was a true work of art. It was theatrical.
K. Dot kicked off the main event with 'wacced out murals' in the black Buick Grand National he once dreamed of owning. The interludes featured SZA and himself in an interrogation room.
'Were you being metaphorical or should we take it as a threat?' an off-screen narrator asked Kendrick at one point. He curtly replied, 'It's whatever you wanna take it' before diving into the explosive 'squabble up.' His transition from 2015's 'King Kunta' into 2017's 'ELEMENT.' and 2025's 'tv off' was a symbolic trifecta of who the rapper is— a Pulitzer Prize winner who's arguably the greatest lyricist of the 21st century and by his own definition: 'the alpha and omega, b***h.'
He and SZA combined their sets to give ample time for their respective solo catalogs and join forces when needed. Like when she slid in afterward to perform '30 For 30.' Pulling from dreamy themes from her own musical trinity— CTRL, SOS, and LANA— the singer serenaded the crowd with 'What Do I Do,' 'The Weekend,' and 'Love Galore.'
Following the romantic tune, the emcee was cuddled up in the car discussing lies versus the truth, which served as a segue for 'euphoria.' The heat that permeated from the literal fiery explosion was felt throughout the stadium, but we were all too busy rapping along to the diss track and 'hey now' to notice.
One highlight of the emcee's set was the interpolation of Anita Baker's 'Angel' serving as the official interlude. This subtle hint of softness was further proof that Kendrick is the masculine equivalent to SZA's divine feminine. As a Gemini man, many are drawn to his wit, intellect, and intuitive curiosity. With her being a Scorpio woman, people gravitate towards her irresistible mystique, emotional awareness, and passionate tenacity. There's a permissive balance with these two that works as collaborators and friends.
All in all? They get each other, and in turn, we understand them more.
Some fans in the crowd went bar-for-bar with his hits including 'HUMBLE.,' 'Swimming Pools (Drank),' 'm.A.A.d city,' 'Alright,' 'dodger blue,' and 'Poetic Justice.' Others felt seen through her classics like 'F2F,' 'Garden (Say It Like Dat),' 'Blind,' 'I Hate U,' 'Kill Bill,' 'Good Days,' and 'Snooze' featuring surprise guest Justin Bieber.
Even while performing records that don't belong to these two like 'LOVE.,' that magnetic pull was still felt. The best example of their platonic soul tie was during their performance of 'luther.' It was endearing and mesmerizing, as though you're witnessing two people who really just want to see the other win. Truthfully, the show could've ended right there.
However, there was something so tender about ending with 'gloria.' It served as a soothing wind-down. He opened the car door for her before entering the driver's side, and they faded to black. It was a fitting end to the magic we'd witnessed from a gentle beast and nurturing beauty.
All Kendrick ever wanted was a Black Grand National, but all we ever wanted was this: an audacious reminder that this level of rapport can exist without romantic ties.

She admits she is relieved everything went fairly well. Sophia is in tears when she talks about dropping the baby off at the fire station. She knows she did the right things as both Tate and her mother would have wanted to keep the baby once they saw him and without an adoptive family in place. Melinda wants to get her examined by a doctor, but Sophia is having none of it. Melinda says they can go to a clinic outside of town and won't take no for an answer. Sophia is frantic as she wonders what in the world, she's going to tell her mother and Tate. Melinda says to leave it to her as she has a plan. Sophia worries her mother will find out and Melinda says she'll cover the cost, so they don't have to go through her insurance. Endings Sarah and Xander run into each other in Horton Square. She notices the stuffed dog and Xander realizes he looks silly. She says she is more shocked he doesn't have it holding a Scottish flag. He says he kept it since Victoria is now terrified of dogs. He says he's going shopping for a teddy bear because making Victoria happy is all that matters. Holly greets her grandmother, and Maggie notes her good mood. Holly says she and Tate are back together and Maggie is thrilled. That being said, she wants Holly to be careful as the baby could change everything. Javi thanks Leo for being on board with the baby and they kiss. Just then, Baby Boy Choi cries and the duo comforts him. Javi looks longingly at a picture on his phone of him holding the baby letting us know there is more to this story. Tate, Rachel and Brady are at the penthouse hanging out and chatting about the breakfast at the pub. They decide to take a short nap before the impending parade. With that, Rachel exits. Brady asks Tate how it's going. Tate says he feels a little guilty because he and Holly have gotten back together and worries how Sophia will react. Sophia pulls up the fake baby bump in front of the mirror. Keep checking back for the latest Days of Our Lives recaps! A Fictional K-Pop Group Just Bested the World's Biggest Boy Band

Superstar septet BTS have some unlikely competition. The K-pop powerhouse, composed of members Jin, Suga, j-hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook, just had one of their more substantial records overthrown by boy band the Saja Boys. The catch? The Saja Boys are a completely fictional group. Voiced by Ahn Hyo-seop, Joel Kim Booster, Alan Lee, and SungWon Cho—with vocal performances from Andrew Choi, Samuil Lee, Kevin Woo, Neckwav, and Danny Chung—the Saja Boys are an animated fictional boy band from the new Netflix film KPop Demon Hunters. Released on June 20, the animated flick follows the secret life of a world-famous K-pop girl group, Huntr/x, who balance being international stars by day and demon hunters by night. Since its release last month, KPop Demon Hunters has swiftly become a viral hit with a fierce online fanbase, which has been reflected in its performance on both viewing and music streaming charts. The Saja Boys, the film's villainous demons who cosplay as a K-pop boy group to lure in souls (and hearts), have found particular success on music streaming charts, taking the crown from BTS to become the highest-charting K-pop boy band in U.S. Spotify history. The group's song 'Your Idol' hit a peak of No. 2 on the U.S. Spotify chart Thursday, surpassing BTS's Grammy-nominated single 'Dynamite' which peaked at No. 3 in 2020. KPop Demon Hunters has become a global hit for the streamer. The film has reached Netflix's top 10 in 93 countries and has topped the list in 33 of those countries. The film's fictional girl group, Huntr/x, are similarly charting on U.S. Spotify, peaking at No. 3 with their track 'Golden.' The milestone ties them with another K-pop powerhouse, Blackpink, for the U.S. K-pop girl-group record. KPop Demon Hunters' overall soundtrack also entered the Billboard 200 at No. 8 this week, making it the highest-debuting soundtrack of the year. Though BTS's crown may have been tilted (for now), the septet have recently reunited following the completion of their mandatory military enlistment in South Korea and are slated to make their highly anticipated comeback next spring.

Kesha Responds to Controversy Over Jeffrey Dahmer "Cannibal" Lyrics

Originally appeared on E! Online Kesha's 2010 song "Cannibal" has left a bitter taste in some people's mouths. And while she understands why, it was a risk she was willing to take for her art. So the singer (born Kesha Rose Sebert) didn't sweat it when "Cannibal" sparked a dance trend on TikTok in 2020, particularly the part where she warbled, "Use your finger to stir my tea / And for dessert I'll suck your teeth / Be too sweet and you'll be a gonner / Yeah, I'll pull a Jeffrey Dahmer." Not everyone was charmed by her lyric referencing the serial killer, who dismembered 17 boys and young men between 1978 and 1991 . "Oh my God, I got re-canceled for the Jeffrey Dahmer lyric," Kesha told People in an interview published July 3. "It was a controversial lyric." But, she added, "If some people aren't offended by what I'm doing, I'm probably not doing a very good job of being a pop star." More from E! What to Know After Verdict Rita Ora Reveals Beyoncé's Reaction to Rumors She Was "Becky With the Good Hair" Dahmer, who was beaten to death in prison in 1994, was eerily in the spotlight again in this century when Ryan Murphy's limited series DAHMER—Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story premiered on Netflix in 2022, starring Evan Peters as the killer. In response to criticism that the show (which was nominated for six Emmys) exploited Dahmer's victims, Murphy said during a Q&A panel that his crew "reached out to around 20 of the victims' families and friends trying to get input, trying to talk to people and not a single person responded to us in that process." And Kesha's mom Pebe Sebert pushed back when the Murphy series prompted a new round of backlash directed at her daughter. "The whole Jeffrey Dahmer lyric in 'Cannibal' is a big controversy right now," Pebe said in an October 2022 TikTok. "I thought I'd just say a few things about it because that was my line that I wrote in 'Cannibal.'" Basically, Kesha and her cowriter were "too young to even know" who Dahmer was, Pebe explained. Enter Mom and the Master Writer for Songwriters computer program. "We were looking for a rhyme for 'goner,' at the very end of the widest rhymes was Jeffrey Dahmer," Pebe said. "I was like, 'Oh, my God, that's a perfect lyric.'" Kesha is aware, meanwhile, that not all lyrics age gracefully: She has changed the line from her 2010 smash "Tik Tok" that went "Wake up in the mornin' feelin' like P. Diddy" to "Wake up in the morning feeling like, f--k P. Diddy!" But overall, the 38-year-old has relished the opportunity for TikTokers to interact with her music in new ways. "I feel like the way people are consuming music is so different than it was, and will probably continue to get even more different," Kesha told People. "But it's a beautiful thing to watch a song [such as 'Your Love Is My Drug] you wrote, God, 15 years ago, and have 7-year-olds now relate to that song." Meanwhile, Dahmer's crimes aren't the only ones that have provided fodder for grisly TV shows and movies.
