NDTVa day ago
A British Royal Navy F-35 fighter jet, stuck at Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram International Airport for about 20 days, is set to return to the UK. Before its departure, the jet had become a meme sensation, with internet users creating humorous content. The memes and jokes started circulating on June 14, but a new wave of humour emerged with news of its planned return. Internet users have turned the event into a meme festival, with pranks like listing the F-35 for sale on OLX and creating fake Aadhar cards for the jet.
One user wrote, "F-35B Nair got its PAN card. Now it's time to link it with Aadhaar as per Govt. rules." Another commented, "If that F-35 plane was parked in Gurgaon for this long, someone would have opened a restaurant inside it."

British F-35 fighter jet
The F-35B, a state-of-the-art stealth fighter jet, made an emergency landing in Trivandrum on June 14 due to a mechanical issue. The F-35B, a fifth-generation stealth fighter renowned for its advanced technology and versatility, was en route from the UK to Australia when it encountered a hydraulic failure. The pilot, facing low fuel levels and adverse weather conditions, opted for an emergency landing at the nearest suitable airport, which happened to be in Kerala. The Indian Air Force facilitated the landing, providing refuelling and logistical support, but the hydraulic issue grounded the aircraft, leaving it stranded on the tarmac.
As of July 6, the F-35 remains grounded at Thiruvananthapuram Airport, with British engineers and a special tow vehicle en route to repair the hydraulic snag. The incident has extended into its third week, with multiple attempts to fix the jet proving unsuccessful.

Dilip Kumar once spent an entire day in jail due to..., was nicknamed 'Gandhiwala' by...

Before he became Hindi cinema's 'Tragedy King', Dilip Kumar — born Yusuf Khan — found himself on the wrong side of the British Raj. In his autobiography, the Substance and the Shadow, the legendary actor revealed how he was once arrested and jailed for delivering a passionate pro-freedom speech during the colonial era. As a young man working in a British army canteen in Pune, he openly criticised the empire's policies and demanded independence for India. The speech was deemed seditious, and the British authorities arrested him, locking him up in Yerwada Jail, where many freedom fighters were already imprisoned. He was nicknamed 'Gandhiwala' Inside, he joined a hunger strike and was quickly dubbed a 'Gandhiwala' — a supporter of Mahatma Gandhi. Although his jail time lasted only one night, it left an indelible mark. He was released the next morning thanks to a familiar Major who intervened on his behalf. Dilip Kumar was born on 11 December 1922 in Peshawar (now in Pakistan). His family migrated to India and eventually settled in Mumbai. Acting wasn't on his radar — until fate intervened. A chance meeting with Devika Rani, head of Bombay Talkies, changed his life. She offered him a job at Rs 1,250 per month (a princely sum then) and suggested a new screen name: Dilip Kumar. For those of you who don't know, his film career began in the 1940s, and over the next five decades, he delivered iconic performances in films like Mughal-e-Azam, Devdas, Naya Daur, Andaz, Ganga Jamuna, and more, forever redefining the emotional landscape of Indian cinema. The man behind the legend Dilip Kumar married actress Saira Banu, who was much younger than he was. Despite the age gap, their bond remained strong for decades. On 7 July 2021, he passed away at the age of 98 at Mumbai's PD Hinduja Hospital. His death wasn't just the end of an actor; it was the closing chapter of an era. Yet, his films, memories, and even untold stories, such as his night in jail, continue to live on.

Cierra Ortega exits Love Island USA amid social media backlash against her over resurfaced post

Washington DC [US], July 7 (ANI): 'Love Island USA' fans are shocked after Cierra Ortega, one of the original contestants of the show, left the show for undisclosed reasons, reported Variety. The show's narrator, Iain Stirling, confirmed via voiceover that Cierra "left the villa due to a personal situation" and therefore, Nic Vansteenberg, with whom she had been in an exclusive couple for several episodes, was now "officially single," as per the outlet. No reason was given for Ortega's departure, except that it was for "personal" reasons. According to Variety, after the sudden departure of Ortega, the show cuts to a conversation between Nic and fellow contestant Ace Greene, with Nic sharing confusion and disappointment now that Cierra is no longer in the villa. Cierra's abrupt exit from 'Love Island USA' came amid an avalanche of backlash against her on social media after an alleged social media post from her past resurfaced online in which she used racist language, reported Variety. Fans were calling for Cierra's removal in the wake of the offensive post resurfacing. Earlier, another original contestant, Yulissa Escobar, was kicked off the show after two episodes for using racial slurs in old podcast clips that resurfaced online, according to the outlet. "In those clips, I used a word I never should've used, a racial slur," Escobar wrote on her Instagram account in an apology post after her removal. "I used it ignorantly, not fully understanding the weight, history, or pain behind it. I wasn't trying to be offensive or harmful, but I now recognise that intention doesn't excuse the impact. And the impact of that word is real. It's tied to generations of trauma, and it is not mine to use," added Escobar, as quoted by Variety. She continued: "At the time, I was speaking casually in conversation, not thinking deeply or critically about what I was saying. But that doesn't take away from how wrong it was. The truth is, I didn't know better then, but I do now. I've taken the time to reflect, to learn, and to grow from that moment." 'Love Island USA' is a dating reality show that has been adapted from the British series of the same name. The show features a group of contestants, referred to as Islanders, who live in isolation from the outside world in a villa. To survive in the villa and the game, the Islanders must be coupled up with another Islander, whether it be for love, friendship, or survival. The islanders who fail to form a couple with another islander get eliminated from the show. Islanders can also be eliminated via a public vote during the series. (ANI)

Ozzy Osbourne of Black Sabbath says farewell to live performance with a hometown show for 40,000 fans

Hard-rock royalty and some 40,000 fans gathered for an ear-splitting tribute to Ozzy Osbourne at what the heavy metal icon says was his last-ever live performance. The original lineup of Osbourne's band Black Sabbath performed at Villa Park football stadium in their home city of Birmingham, central England, on Saturday (July 5, 2025). The 76-year-old singer, who has been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, sang from a black throne that rose up from under the stage. 'Let the madness begin!' he urged as he took the stage, and later paid tribute to fans. 'I don't know what to say, man, I've been laid up for like six years. You have no idea how I feel — thank you from the bottom of my heart,' Osbourne said. 'You're all… special. Let's go crazy, come on.' Getting the band back together Osbourne performed several songs solo before being joined onstage, for the first time in 20 years, by Black Sabbath bandmates Tony Iommi, Terence 'Geezer' Butler and Bill Ward. The band ended a short set with 'Paranoid," one of its most famous songs. It capped a day-long metal festival that included performances from the likes of Anthrax, Metallica and Guns N'Roses. Artists who sent plaudits and well-wishes included Jack Black, Dolly Parton and Elton John. 'You are one of the most remarkable singers of our time,' John said. 'You are the king, you are the legend.' Osbourne formed Black Sabbath in 1968 in Birmingham, a city then known for its heavy industry that became the crucible of the British metal scene. Black Sabbath's devil imagery and thunderous sound made them one of the era's most influential — and parent-scaring — metal acts. Both the band and Osbourne as a solo artist have been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Osbourne's fame expanded into the mainstream in the early 2000s, when he joined his wife Sharon Osbourne, and two of their children in the MTV reality TV show 'The Osbournes.' He has struggled with health issues since 2003 following a near-fatal quad-bike crash. He revealed his Parkinson's diagnosis in 2020 and paused touring in 2023 after spinal surgery.
