Alex Anzalone's cryptic post adds fuel to the perceived contract demands in Detroit
Anzalone's latest social media post is throwing gasoline onto that smoldering situation, one that head coach Dan Campbell stated last week didn't concern him at all. The Instagram post shows Anzalone working out away from the team and looking impressive physically.
Anzalone makes no mention at all of the Lions in the extended video clip, nor does he refer to Detroit in his simple comment, "In life, you have options. Which will you choose?"
Based on the comments to the clip, including one from Lions teammate Jahmyr Gibbs, it's abundantly clear that the masses believe Anzalone is referring to his perceived contractual squabble with the Lions in the video.
Anzalone is under contract for $6 million in 2025, though none of that salary is guaranteed. Including his $100,000 roster bonus, Anzalone's total compensation is outside the top 25 LBs in the NFL for 2025.

Could LeBron James have thrived in the NFL if he had chosen to take his talents to the gridiron instead of the hardwood? Los Angeles Rams star wide receiver Davante Adams certainly thinks so. "He would have been one of the best receivers, tight ends of all time. No question," Adams said during a recent appearance on the "Dan Patrick Show." Adams cited James' speed as one of the reasons he would succeed in the NFL. "He can fly too. That's the thing. He's one of the fastest NBA players probably of all time," Adams said. "I've never seen somebody cover space on a basketball court. Maybe John Wall? Derrick Rose? Somebody like that, but he's up there with all of them." At six-foot-nine and 250 pounds, James certainly has the size to play tight end or wide receiver in the NFL, as he is bigger than some of the best to ever do it. James previously said his comparison on the football field would have been a combination of Randy Moss and Rob Gronkowski. "Probably like a mix between, you know, (Rob Gronkowski) or Randy Moss a little bit, but he's a lot smaller than me. He runs a lot faster, but he's a lot smaller than me," James said during an appearance on "New Heights" in March. The 21-time NBA All-Star compared his build to Hall of Famer Calvin Johnson, as James said they have "that same stature as far as build." James also brought up Tony Gonzalez, who played college basketball before eventually turning into a tight end and had an illustrious 17-year career in the NFL that ended in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. "Maybe Tony Gonzalez, with his size, and obviously he played basketball as well. I used to love his celebration when he used to dunk on the goal post too," James said. Gonzalez was six-foot-five and 243 pounds, while Johnson was listed as six-foot-five and 237 pounds during his playing career. The Lakers star said he only "seriously" considered joining the NFL in 2011, during the NBA lockout. "It was 2011 when we had the NBA lockout and, you know, I didn't know when we were going to make the deal with the owners and get our league back going. I actually thought about it a little bit back then. I was still young enough, you know, to get out there with y'all, but that's the only time I've actually seriously considered it," James said. Adams would certainly know what makes a good receiver, as the six-time Pro Bowler has been a top wide receiver in the NFL in his 11-year career. In 164 career games, Adams has 957 career catches for 11,844 yards and 103 touchdowns. Last season, across 14 games with the New York Jets and Las Vegas Raiders, Adams had 67 catches for 854 yards and seven touchdowns. Adams signed with the Rams this offseason and gives the team one of the league's best wide receiver duos alongside star Puka Nacua. UFC veteran Ben Askren spoke publicly for the first time Wednesday since being hospitalized in early June with a life-threatening case of pneumonia, which ultimately led to him undergoing a successful double lung transplant. Askren's wife, Amy Askren, has periodically provided updates on her husband's condition and the process they've endured during his health scare since it was first revealed on June 6. After weeks of sedation and a period in "limbo," Amy's updates indicated that her husband was in need of a double lung transplant. Advertisement Following the successful surgery, a noticeably gaunt and emotional Askren posted a video to Instagram addressing everything that's occurred over the past several weeks. "What's up guys? Have not given you an update in a while. Figured you deserve one. Whenever this is all the way over — I actually just read through my wife's journal because I don't remember anything from May 28 to July 2. No recollection. Zero idea. No idea what happened. We'll kind of go through it all and I just read through my wife's journal. It's like a movie. It's ridiculous. So, I only died four times, where the ticker stopped for about 20 seconds. That's not ideal. I don't think you guys know that. But I got the double lung transplant. I made it out to the other side of it, gaining quite a bit of strength. We're going to use everything again. I was actually on the scale yesterday — 147 pounds. I haven't been 147 pounds since 15 years old. So, I lost 50 pounds in a 45-day period. So, man, that was a battle, although I don't remember most of it. And the thing that was most impactful to me was all the love I felt from everybody. And it was almost like I got to see my own funeral, right? I still remember it 30 years ago when Dave Schultz died and you listen to all these older people, you know, recollect how much they enjoyed him, how much they loved him. And obviously he never got to hear that. I'm sure some people told him [before he died]. So, man, the outpouring of love from the wrestling community was just amazing. It felt so good. And so, you know, I'm more motivated than ever to keep giving back and do what I can and help out the best I can help out. I love you guys. I appreciate you guys. This has been tough, not only on me, but my whole family and my close community. So, I appreciate everything. Hope you guys appreciate the update. And like I said, sometime down the road, maybe Amy and I can detail everything a little more." The 40-year-old Askren began his MMA career 19-0 and most notably held the welterweight titles in Bellator MMA and ONE Championship. In 2019, he was a part of the first and only "MMA trade," which saw him swap from ONE with Demetrious Johnson to join the UFC roster. Askren only fought three times for the promotion, all in 2019, before hip injuries ultimately led to his retirement. Since then, Askren has competed once in a pro boxing debut opposite Jake Paul in 2021, but has largely focused on his coaching career at his Askren Wrestling Academy in Wisconsin.
