ISL will happen this season: AIFF president
NEW DELHI: All India Football Federation (AIFF) president Kalyan Chaubey on Thursday assured franchises, players, coaches and other stakeholders that the
Indian Super League
(ISL) would take place this season, potentially with a slight delay due to ongoing litigation in the Supreme Court.
Chaubey also said that a new head coach for the Indian men's
football
team would be named within the next 10 days after the technical committee submits the names of three shortlisted candidates – GreekCypriot Stephen Constantine, Slovakia's Stefan Tarkovic and home-grown Khalid Jamil – to the AIFF's executive committee (EC) on Wednesday.

'If the league doesn't take place, not only footballers but the people who are associated with football will be affected.
Thousands of people will be affected. So, we will put our best effort to ensure that the league happens,' Chaubey said.
Earlier this month, Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL), the body that owns and organises ISL, had written to the AIFF and the clubs stating that the league had been kept on hold.
In May, the apex court instructed the AIFF and FSDL not to enter into any negotiations until the final verdict on the AIFF constitution comes.
ISL typically runs from Sept to April.
'As and when the court's decision comes, the AIFF will take a call, sit with all the stakeholders and ensure how smoothly these tournaments, including ISL, can be conducted,' Chaubey concluded.

I Took 20 Wickets In BGT Sir: Mohammed Siraj Hits Back At Reporter Questioning His Form
IND vs ENG: Mohammed Siraj delivered a sensational performance on the final day of the 5th Test at The Oval, guiding India to a nail-biting 6-run win over England. With England chasing 374, Siraj's fiery spell shattered their resistance as they folded for 367 in 85.1 overs. This triumph marked India's narrowest-ever win in Test cricket, sealing the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2-2 and etching the victory into the annals of Indian cricketing history. Siraj Claims Five, Ends Series as Leading Wicket-Taker Siraj was instrumental in India's comeback, finishing with five wickets in the innings and 23 wickets in the series more than any other bowler. His final-day scalps included Jamie Smith, Jamie Overton, and Gus Atkinson, the last of whom was dismissed by a scorching yorker that sealed the game. With this performance, Siraj became only the third Indian pacer after Kapil Dev and Jasprit Bumrah to take more than 20 wickets in multiple Test series. Siraj Shuts Down Reporter Who Questioned His Form During the post-match press conference, Siraj addressed criticism over his showing in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. 'I took 20 wickets in BGT, sir,' he clarified. 'When Jassi bhai (Jasprit Bumrah) was bowling well, my only job was to bowl in partnership as much as possible.' Siraj also emphasized the importance of control in tough conditions. 'I didn't want to try too much because if I tried hard, I could leak runs and allow the pressure to shift.' Kohli's Praise: 'Siraj Puts Everything on the Line' Former India captain Virat Kohli, who has long been a vocal supporter of Siraj, was quick to laud the pacer on social media. He highlighted Siraj's grit and dedication in a post on X, saying, 'Special mention to Siraj who will put everything on the line for the team. Extremely happy for him.' Kohli praised the bowling duo of Siraj and Prasidh Krishna for engineering a collapse from 317/4 to 367 all out a moment that turned the match and brought India level in the series. A Breakthrough Overseas Tour for Siraj The Oval Test was not just a win for India, but a personal milestone for Siraj. Bowling the most overs among all bowlers across both teams in the five-match series, Siraj solidified his position as India's go-to pacer in overseas conditions. With consistent performances in both Australia and England now under his belt, Siraj's stature as one of India's elite red-ball bowlers continues to rise.

‘Hope that the word ‘workload' goes out of the Indian Cricket dictionary': Sunil Gavaskar after Mohammed Siraj's 185.3 overs effort in IND vs ENG Test series
The ball that Mohammed Siraj bowled to Gus Atkinson to rattle his stumps was Siraj's fifth fastest delivery of the series, and this came after five Tests in which he bowled a whopping 185.2 overs. He ended up as the leading wicket-taker with 23 wickets in the series. He was the last bowler remaining from both sides to play all the games at the end alongside Chris Woakes. Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, appreciative of Siraj's workload, said that he debunked the 'business of workload.' 'There's always the saying that the bowlers win your matches, but the fact of the matter is that you've also got to score the runs. So because India didn't score the runs, they lost those two matches. So yes, I think Siraj bowled his heart out, and he debunked forever this business of workload,' he said, speaking to India Today. 'I hope that the word 'workload' goes out of the Indian Cricket dictionary. I've been saying that for a long time. For five Test matches nonstop, he bowled 6-over, 7-over, 8-over spells because the captain wanted it, and the country expected of him. And I think that is the one thing that we all should keep in mind that this workload is only a mental thing, not so much a physical thing,' Gavaskar added. 'If you are going to succumb to people who are talking about workload, then you are never going to have your best players on the field. You've got to get them to a situation where you say, 'Hello, you are playing for your country, and when you are playing for your country, you got to forget the aches and pains in your muscles. That is what you mean on the border. Do you think the jawans complain about the cold, or what is the situation? They are there to give their lives for the country. Give your very best for the country. Don't worry about accident pains. What did Rishabh Pant show you? He came out bat with a fracture. That is the kind of thing you want to expect from your team,' Gavaskar further said.

Mohammed Siraj Called 'Pantomime Villain' After Heroic Show: 'People Love To Hate Him'
Last Updated: Mohammed Siraj's stellar performance in the 5th Test against England led to a 2-2 series draw, taking 23 wickets. Mohammed Siraj has become the toast of Indian cricket following his gust-busting spell in the 5th Test that concluded with a remarkable win for the tourists and a 2-2 conclusion to their five-match series with England. Siraj finished the tour with 23 wickets and kept hitting the headlines with his performance and histrionics. He took a six-fer at Edgbaston, a five-over at Oval and then had skirmishes with England batters including Ben Duckett. He was punished for his aggressive send-off to Duckett with the two brushing shoulders. He was left crestfallen after becoming the 10th Indian wicket to fall in the unluckiest of fashion at Lord's that sealed a thrilling England win. He dropped a catch of Harry Brook on the fourth day of the 5th Test which, again, left him devastated. Brook went on to score a century – an innings that seemed to have put England in the driving seat in the hunt of another 350-plus chase. Monday was Siraj's redemption as he starred in India's defense of 35 runs on the final day as the visitors knocked down the remaining four wickets to ensure the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy ended on level terms. And former England captain Nasser Hussain has praised Siraj, drawing comparisons with the legendary Shane Warne who was loved and hated by fans in equal measure. Daily Mail. 'He's a born entertainer, but crucially he's got all the other attributes you need at the highest level: heart, passion, and ultimately skill," he added. Hussain then shed light on how Siraj has polished his skill to outfox the best batters of this generation. 'He's (Siraj) gone from being a hit-the-deck bowler using wobble seam to trap people LBW – as he did with Joe Root – to one who has developed outswing so big that Shubman Gill wasn't interested in taking the second new ball," he wrote. Then, there is the fabulous yorker, such as the one to Crawley late on day three. He went to it again just before midday, knowing that Gus Atkinson was trying to hit him over midwicket for a second six that would have tied the game, nailing it under the most immense pressure," he added. Hussain said the series was the best since the Ashes 2005 which England won in dramatic fashion. 'The fifth morning was so dramatic that you really couldn't script it, concluding the best series I've seen since 2005," he wrote. view comments First Published: News cricket Mohammed Siraj Called 'Pantomime Villain' After Heroic Show: 'People Love To Hate Him' Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
