Moment Glasgow bar erupts as man nails 'amazing' karaoke

The Horseshoe Bar is famed for its karaoke nights, and the watering hole was packed out for a special performance at the weekend. The Drury Street institution posted the 'amazing' video of a punter, 'wee Bob', absolutely nailing his rendition of Luciano Pavarotti's Nessun Dorma. Posting the video on social media, the bar said: "How amazing is wee Bob, what a cheer he got tonight." Bob's voice soars from the pub's stage to a cheering crowd as he delivers the song with passion and a red-faced blast at the top of his voice. The unassuming man, dressed as a regular pub punter, proved that he had something special as the entire bar cheered his finale. People were quick to flock to the comments to appreciate Bob's singing talent. One said: "Can feel the emotion from this wee man goosebumps man unreal." While another joked: "Imagine being on the karaoke after this!" A third tagged their pal and said: "We would've been greeting watching him, he can fair belt out a choon." Former Ayr United women's star on her humbling coaching mission to Africa

Clare Docherty was part of the recent Scottish Football For Rwanda trip featuring coaches and young Scots players. A former Ayr United women's football star has told of her humbling experience coaching kids in Africa. ‌ Clare Docherty jetted thousands of miles to take part in an inspiring project teaching the beautiful game. ‌ Docherty, 36, joined fellow Scots coaches and youth footballers on the latest Scottish Football For Rwanda mission to pass on skills to youngsters. ‌ Now she's spoken of her dream to return - and establish an Ayr United Academy which can inspire players of the future. Clare, the head of United's women's and girls' setup, hung up her own playing boots at the end of last season before making the trip of a lifetime. ‌ She told the Ayrshire Post:"It was an incredible experience. I didn't really know what to expect as it's such different way of life out there. "When it comes to basic resources like school uniforms or shoes for children, it's a real challenge. They are so grateful for the things we take for granted in Scotland. "We went into really rural areas to hand out kit and coach the kids. Their excitement and reaction was so humbling. ‌ "The children were showing me how they make footballs with banana leaves and use those for their games. It just makes you appreciate what we have here." Clare joined her fellow coaches on the Scots project which visits Rwanda twice a year, and hails its aim to "support development of grassroots youth football in one of the world's most deserving nations." Their next trip is in October, and Clare is raring to go back and spread the word of Ayr United even more. ‌ She explained: "A group of 16 and 17-year-old kids from Scotland came with us on the recent trip for the very first time. ‌ "They've said they'll always look to do that in future because of the success this year. "I'm looking to go back on the next trip and would love to take some kids from the Ayr United Academy to help establish our own presence in Rwanda." Clare added: "It was hard in a sense to see the way some of the kids out there were living, but the happiness they got from us being there was very uplifting. ‌ "I struggled when I came back because Scottish people are always in a rush, stressed or they're angry. "Out there, they literally have nothing and are so appreciative of everything they get. It's an eye-opener. "We would spend hours with the kids just having fun, delivering the coaching sessions and giving them a chance to play football. That's what it's all about."

Watch: The Bill star helps real-life police arrest shoplifter

An actor who starred as a policeman in TV show The Bill helped real-life officers apprehend a runaway thief on Wednesday, footage shows. Jeff Stewart, who played PC Reg Hollis in over 900 episodes of the show from 1984 to 2008, sprinted after a shoplifter and sat on his legs as officers arrested him. Praising the actor, Hampshire Constabulary said he was 'long since retired from Sun Hill station – but he's still got it'. The footage shows that, as Stewart comes to the police's aid, he tells them: 'Well, I was in The Bill for 24 years.' The 69-year-old Scottish actor helped the officers make an arrest in Southampton, Hants, on Wednesday. A force spokesman said: 'In policing, you should always expect the unexpected, but this really wasn't on The Bill for this week. Officers making an arrest in Southampton were aided by none other than TV's PC Reg Hollis during an incident on Wednesday July 23. 'The officers were in the city in the afternoon when they were alerted by staff at Co-op in Ocean Way to a suspected shoplifter, who attempted to make good his escape on a bicycle. The thief – 29-year-old Mohamed Diallo – fell off the bike during his attempts to flee, before officers pounced to make their arrest. 'To their surprise, local TV legend Jeff Stewart, who played PC Hollis for 24 years, came to their aid by sitting on the suspect's legs while officers put him in cuffs.' Witness Sam Holton was working from his home when he heard the commotion outside. He said: 'I hear lots of screaming and commotion. I see this guy cycling away, and he is being chased by a member of the public and two police. 'By the time I had whipped out my phone, the first police officer tackled the guy to the floor on his bike, and the other chap caught up. There was an older guy chasing behind the police. He helped the police hold the guy.' Diallo, from Southampton, admitted five counts of theft totalling £284 at Southampton magistrates' court. He will be sentenced next week.
