Roundtable demands cancellation of land allotted to LuLu Group in Vizag

The Hindu2 days ago
The speakers at a roundtable organised by the CPI on Friday (August 1, 2025) demanded that the Andhra Pradesh government cancel the prime land allotted to the LuLu Group at a nominal price, near RK Beach in the city.
CPI district secretary Sheik Rahaman and CPI(M) district committee secretary M. Jaggunaidu demanded a probe by a sitting Judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court into the whole issue.
They alleged that the land was allotted in violation of the guidelines. They found fault with the State government for issuing a G.O. regarding the land allotment.
The speakers at the roundtable opined that the NDA government was taking decisions to favour the corporate groups.
There was a suspicion among the people that the decision was the result of a secret deal between the powers that be in the government. They recalled that several traders had lost their livelihood due to the proliferation of malls in the city.
The LuLu Mall would pose a serious threat to the livelihood of small traders on the Beach Road. They reiterated the demand for cancellation of the allotment failing which widespread protests would be organised against the 'lopsided policies' of the government.
CPI(M) leader B. Ganga Rao, CPI (ML) New Democracy leader M. Kondayya, CPI (ML) Praja Poru leader K. Deva and CPI district leaders M. Pydiraju, K. Satyanarayana, M. Manmadha Rao, CN Kshetrapal, R. Srinivas and M.A. Begum were among those who participated in the roundtable.

Country is being ruled by those who will do anything to win Elections: K.C. Venugopal

AICC general secretary and MP, K.C. Venugopal has alleged that the country is currently being ruled by those who are willing to destroy democracy in order to win elections. He said that the Congress party will soon release shocking data related to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Speaking at the Leaders' Meet organised by the Thrissur District Congress Committee here on Sunday, Mr. Venugopal accused the BJP of election manipulation and criticised the CPI(M) for allegedly colluding with them in tampering with the voters' list in Kerala. 'It is shameful that while the CPI(M) supports Congress's fight against electoral fraud at the national level, they engage in voter list manipulation in the State,' he said. He also criticised the BJP's double standards, comparing their behaviour to running with the hare and hunting with the hounds. 'The most recent example of this hypocrisy was seen in Chhattisgarh. Only Amit Shah knows the logic behind handing over the case related to the arrest of nuns to the NIA. Similarly, only he seems to understand the BJP's claim that they intervened to secure the nuns' release,' Mr. Venugopal remarked. He called for a decisive battle against election malpractice, stating that the time has come to confront and expose such corruption. The function was presided over by DCC president Joseph Tajet and included the distribution of ID cards to ward presidents.
