I was at Oasis Heaton Park - if you want the old Gallaghers this isn't for you

Daily Mirror3 days ago
If you miss the histrionics of the final Oasis years, the chaos on confusion on stage, this new tour may not be for you.
But having now seen it three times in a week, I think there are plenty of signs Noel Gallagher is moulding the band into a sharper sounding unit. And at the heart of it is a consistent vocal performance from brother Liam.
On Saturday night at the end of the show the brothers hugged and then Noel pointed over to his brother in a clear show of admiration and to tell the crowd just how much he loved Liam's performance. It was a shocking sight, the total opposite of their old rows on stage.
This symbolic show of respect - Liam raises Noel's arm aloft to start the shows too - means they are surely starting to get on better behind the scenes too.
Noel is loving working with Liam's voice again. And perhaps he is now relaxing into the gigs a bit more as we saw some extra little guitar ad-libs, with longer intros and outros of songs are on display compared to the Cardiff comeback.
To my ears the band's keyboard player Christian Madden has also been turned up on notch on some songs to good effect. And new drummer Joey Waronker has found his feet and the band is sounding tighter.
'What a f**king joy,' Liam said towards the end of the gig as they prepared to sing Wonderwall, and he wasn't wrong.
If he keeps his end of the bargain and rests now and can keep his voice on track, Noel can tinker with the sound and the wall of guitars and the gigs will only get better.
Would I like more stage interaction? Of course. And some of the lines on stage are now pre-planned which doesn't feel very Oasis. But the Gallaghers have grown up, and like their mature fans who can only manage to jump up and down for the odd song in three these days, this style of set is what they need to make things work.
And if Liam protects his vocal chords, little by little Noel is going to make Oasis even better.
Saturday night also saw Richard Ashcroft change up his set list in the support slot, bringing in Weeping Willow.
Fans who are going to more than one Oasis show, myself included, would love to see Noel do this but I'm not sure it's very likely, he will concentrate on getting this set right, they will want to stick to the ones that worked best in rehearsals.
So roll on the next two hour singalong at Heaton Park. And long may the Gallaghers love in continue.

Oasis hit with ‘endless' big money offers to play major festivals next year after success of reunion tour

Oasis fan successfully sneaks into Heaton Park gig after hatching truly genius plan

A ticketless Oasis fan has claimed he snuck into the band's sold-out Manchester reunion gig and walked through security unnoticed before making it to the front of the crowd One Oasis fan who couldn't get a ticket for the band's massive Manchester reunion concert claims he successfully faked his way into the event by dressing as a litter picker. ‌ The Britpop legends performed at Heaton Park over the weekend, their first time back on a Manchester stage in 16 years. With 80,000 fans in attendance and tickets sold out well in advance, many were left outside the gates. While some fans camped behind barriers just to hear the music, others attempted to breach the venue by more creative means. ‌ John Spilsbury, a 42-year-old transport planner from Alfreton, Cheshire, says he used a far more subtle approach. ‌ Donning a yellow hi-vis vest and armed with a bin bag and rubbish grabber, he walked confidently through the gates. 'No ticket, no problem,' he wrote in a social media post alongside photos of himself in disguise and later enjoying the gig. 'When you can't get a ticket for Oasis, so take a hi-viz and grabber and pretend to be a litter picker then walk straight into front standing," he added. ‌ According to John, security didn't even try to stop him as he claims he even spent about '30 minutes' picking up litter inside the venue before blending into the crowd near the front of the stage. Once the show began, he removed his gear and joined the party to belt out the iconic lyrics to songs including WonderWall and Don't Look Back In Anger. Fans online were quick to praise his cheeky tactic as some called him a 'legend' and a 'genius', while others joked about the next concerts being overrun with fake cleaners. 'There'll be 6,000 litter pickers at the next gig,' one person wrote. 'Wembley's going to be spotless,' added another. While John's stunt was lighthearted, security at the reunion weekend faced more serious challenges. ‌ On Friday, as many as 50 fans reportedly turned up with a ladder in an attempt to climb the perimeter fence. On Saturday, large groups were seen rushing the gates as Liam and Noel Gallagher took the stage shortly after 8 p.m. Three more Oasis shows are set to take place at Heaton Park this week, on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday, before the band continues the reunion tour with five major shows at Wembley Stadium in London. ‌ Given how high demand has been, and the lengths fans are willing to go, organisers may be facing a fresh security headache ahead of the next dates. The Mirror has approached Manchester City Council, which operates Heaton Park, for comment on this story.
