Uddhav is desperate for power, changes colours like chameleon: Eknath Shinde
Speaking at the 59th Foundation Day of the party, he said while self-confidence led him and his party to success, Thackeray's ego led him to his destruction.
He also taunted Thackeray, saying he was eager to have an alliance with the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) ahead of the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation polls.
"He is so desperate that he is seeking alliances," he said in a veiled reference to the possibility of Sena (UBT)'s alliance with the MNS led by Uddhav's estranged cousin Raj Thackeray.

Shinde said the ruling Shiv Sena functioned on the ideology of party founder Bal Thackeray, while the other side was desperate for power.
''We have the Shiv Sena bow and arrow symbol and people's support. We have protected Balasaheb's ideology,'' he said.
He said the Sena (UBT) did not even get one third of the votes polled by his Shiv Sena in the 2024 assembly polls.
"Whatever votes they got were because of the Congress as the real Shiv Sena voters have bid them good bye,'' he said.
Shinde said he has self-confidence, while the other side has ego. "Self-confidence has give us success, while ego has led to their destruction. Balasaheb opposed Congress, but those desperate for power aligned with that party. Sena (UBT) has betrayed Marathi people, Shiv Sena voters and Hindutva,'' he alleged.

Shinde said he has never seen a "betrayer'' like Uddhav Thackeray, who changes colours very easily like a chameleon as he wants only money.
"Those who are helpless for power cannot be Balasaheb's heirs," he said. The deputy CM said he will never compromise on Hindutva for power. "They consider BMC as golden goose. Mumbai and its importance is not under threat, but their politics and finances will come under threat as their soul is in the BMC treasury, while our soul is Hindutva. There will be no compromise on it,'' he said.
Is Hindutva a T-shirt that you can wear or remove any time, he asked, referring to Thackeray's statement that he has not quit Hindutva. "Why do you hesitate to call Balasaheb as Hindu Hriday Samrat (emperor of Hindu hearts). You join hands with those who abuse (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi and (Union minister Amit) Shah, who fulfilled Balasaheb's dream of Ram temple and abrogation of Article 370, and with those who abuse Savarkar and Hindu religion,'' he said.
He also mocked Uddhav Thackeray's ''kill me" remark and said mere talk is not enough.
"You need a tiger's heart and strength in your wrist. How can we kill someone who is already dead? People of the state have already finished them in the assembly polls...Don't provoke me. If someone does that, I don't leave them. I have already upturned your horse carriage and taken away your horses," he said.
Shinde questioned why Thackeray did not visit the families of the tourists killed in the Pahalgam attack. "Where were you? Where was your patriotism and love for Marathi that time?" he asked. After Operation Sindoor, Balasaheb would have praised PM Modi, whereas the Congress was questioning the armed forces and abusing him, he alleged.
"Are you an Indian or a Pakistani agent? Pakistan uses your statements against India. Rahul Gandhi has become a hero in Pakistan but is a zero in India," he said.
Shinde praised his son and Lok Sabha member Shrikant Shinde and Rajya Sabha member Milind Deora for being part of the all-party delegation after Operation Sindoor. Just like the Ladki Bahin scheme, the party has launched a Ladki Soon (daughter-in-law) scheme and it will fight for women facing domestic abuse, he said. He said 50 former corporators of the undivided Shiv Sena have joined his party.
"We will fight to win the local body elections. Decision on alliance will be taken at appropriate time," he said. "Balasaheb's ideology is our wealth," he said. Shinde asked his supporters not to get carried away by the assembly election results. "Get ready to win the local body elections," he said.

Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw told Lok Sabha on Wednesday that railway accidents had come down by 77 per cent in 10 years — from 135 in 2014-15 to 31 in 2024-25 — as the Narendra Modi-led government was prioritising safety measures. He added that there was a constant effort to use new technologies to ensure the safety of trains. Vaishnaw said that Kavach, a technology-intensive automatic train protection system, was commissioned under the Make-in-India initiative within a short period, while many developed countries took a few decades to move towards automatic train protection systems despite having a smaller railway network than India. He said that the Kavach version 4.0 would be commissioned fully in a day on the Kota-Mathura track. He added that as Kavach technology required an extensive optical fibre network, a 5,856 km-long optical fibre network had been laid, 619 telecom towers installed, 708 stations equipped with data centres, and 1,107 locomotives installed with a software system. Kavach is operational on 4,000 kilometers of railway track, he said. Vaishnaw was replying to a question posed by Bhumare Sandipanrao Asaram, Shiv Sena MP from Aurangabad in Maharashtra, during the Question Hour. Vaishnaw had faced the heat last year after a stampede at the New Delhi Railway Station claimed 18 lives during the Mahakumbh, leading to demands for his resignation from the Opposition. While the Opposition flagged multiple train mishaps during his tenure, the deadliest train accident under Vaishnaw's leadership was the 2023 Odisha train collision on June 2 near Bahanaga Bazar station, which claimed the lives of 296 people and injured over 1,200 when the Coromandel Express collided with a stationary freight train, and then hit another train.

Modi govt has corrected Nehru's mistakes on Indus Water Treaty: EAM Jaishankar in RS
External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar on Wednesday stated that the Modi government has rectified the historical mistakes made by former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru regarding the Indus Water Treaty (IWT) by putting it in abeyance until Pakistan ceases its support for cross-border terrorism. Speaking in the Rajya Sabha during the debate on Operation Sindoor, EAM Jaishankar began by expressing deep gratitude to the Indian Armed Forces. Referring to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, he said, "It was a shocking attack for a variety of reasons -- the manner in which people were killed in front of their families, the fact that their religion was asked before killing them, and the intent of destroying the economy of Jammu and Kashmir which had returned to prosperity and normalcy after the end of Article 370 -- all of this angered the country. There was grief and shock. Across the world, there was solidarity and sympathy." He emphasised that such an attack was absolutely unacceptable and had crossed India's red lines. "There had to be severe consequences. There had to be accountability of the perpetrators, and they and their supporters had to be brought to justice," Jaishankar said. He noted that the decision taken by the Cabinet Committee on Security on April 23 was the "first clear message of India's anger, resolve and determination". EAM Jaishankar recalled the key steps taken, including the cancellation of Pakistani visas under SAARC, reduction in diplomatic mission strength, expulsion of military advisors, and the holding of the Indus Water Treaty in abeyance. Describing the significance of putting the treaty in abeyance, he said, "The Indus Water Treaty in many ways is a very unique agreement. I cannot think of any agreement in the world where a country has allowed its major rivers to flow to the next country without having rights on that river. It was an extraordinary agreement, and it is important, when we have put it in abeyance, to recall the history of this event." Jaishankar referred to the parliamentary proceedings of the 1960s, quoting the then Prime Minister, who reportedly said the Indian government is keeping in mind the interests of West Punjab (Pakistan's Punjab). The EAM said the then PM had the interests of Pakistan "over its own farmers in Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Himachal Pradesh." "Not a word about the interests of our own people. He said, 'We purchased peace'. But within a year, that same Prime Minister admitted there was no peace with Pakistan. What we purchased was not peace, but appeasement," EAM Jaishankar said. He argued that the treaty, "initially done in a spirit of goodwill and friendship, had become irrelevant as India had received neither goodwill nor friendship from Pakistan since 1960, only terrorism, attacks and wars." "Such a treaty had to be dealt with, and this government dealt with it," he said. Reiterating the Modi government's firm position, Jaishankar said, "This was not a price of peace, but a price of appeasement. The Modi government has corrected the mistakes of Pandit Nehru's policies by suspending the Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan. The Indus Water Treaty will be held in abeyance until Pakistan irrevocably gives up its support of terrorism. Blood and water will not flow together."
