FlatBlank, a Revolutionary Auto-adjustment Feature, Dramatically Reduces Workload
Article content
In conventional thermal analysis, baseline adjustment must be performed by hand before measurement can begin. This process can be time-consuming and frustrating, particularly for novice users. Rigaku's newly developed FlatBlank, a baseline auto-adjustment feature, automates this process, dramatically reducing waiting time associated with the process. Measurement can begin as soon as preparations are ready, enabling smooth setup after sample insertion and improving work efficiency overall. The benefits are particularly pronounced in workplaces conducting R&D handling multiple samples.

Key Features of STAvesta
Article content
Broad support for a wide range of users
STAvesta easily switches among seven types of electric furnace 1 according to purpose and measurement conditions. A real-time imaging feature enables samples to be observed during measurement, contributing to improved speed and accuracy in R&D.
1. Six types of electric furnace in some sales countries.
Vestaeye, a new, world-first feature, provides self-diagnosis for constant monitoring of device status.
Before and during measurement, the device monitors itself constantly for signs of abnormality. Users can confirm at a glance whether the device is functioning correctly before starting measurement, so waste of precious samples is eliminated.
Next-generation thermal analysis features for outstanding temperature-control performance
In thermal analysis, when a temperature is set for a sample, the sample may fail to heat up to that setting or may heat up above that setting, precluding accurate measurement. Rigaku's new temperature control feature dramatically reduces this problem of incorrect temperature. Samples are heated to and held at the required temperature in strict accordance with the preset temperature program. As a result, researchers can easily obtain the intended reactions and obtain stable measurement.
Rapid processing of up to 52 samples in a compact device
STAvesta's automatic sample changer dramatically increases the number of samples that can be handled from 28 in the previous model to 52. With 2.3 times the transport speed of the previous model and support for up to 1,000 continuous measurements, STAvesta achieves superb measurement efficiency. The tray section supports gas flow, making it ideal for measurement of powders that are prone to moisture absorption. STAvesta is designed so that attachment of the automatic sample changer does not increase its footprint, assuring industry-leading space-saving performance.

Stock Market News for Jul 8, 2025

Wall Street closed sharply lower on Monday, pulled down by tech and discretionary stocks. Investor mood was grim on the Trump administration announcing hefty tariffs on Japan, South Korea and other countries. All three benchmark indexes closed in the red. How Did the Benchmarks Perform? The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI) fell 0.9%, or 422.17 points, to close at 44,406.36. Twenty-five components of the 30-stock index ended in negative territory, while five ended in positive. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite lost 188.59 points, or 0.9%, to close at 20,412.52. The S&P 500 slid 49.37 points, or 0.8%, to close at 6,229.98. Ten of the 11 broad sectors of the benchmark index closed in the red. The Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY), the Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) and the Communication Services Select Sector SPDR (XLC) declined 1.3%, 1% and 1%, respectively, while the Utilities Select Sector SPDR (XLU) added 0.2%. The fear-gauge CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) increased 1.8% to 17.79. A total of 16.5 billion shares were traded on Monday, lower than the last 20-session average of 18.2 billion. Decliners outnumbered advancers by a 3.44-to-1 ratio on the NYSE and by a 2.74-to-1 ratio on the Nasdaq. Trump Tariffs Weigh on the Markets On Monday, U.S. markets reacted negatively to President Trump's announcement of sweeping new tariffs. He sent letters to the leaders of 14 countries, including Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Kazakhstan and BRICS members, threatening 25-40% import duties effective Aug. 1 and hinting at an extra 10% levy on BRICS nations. The sudden escalation in trade tensions rattled investors, prompting a broad sell-off across sectors. Small-caps underperformed, with the Russell 2000 dropping around 1.5%. Risk-off sentiment was fueled by renewed uncertainty around global trade. Although markets had rallied earlier this summer, the tariff news dimmed sentiment, pulling back gains and reinforcing concerns that trade friction might derail economic growth. Investors are now closely watching whether follow-through negotiations before the Aug. 1 effective date can alleviate global trade fears. Consequently, shares of Apple Inc. AAPL and Oracle Corporation ORCL fell 1.7% and 2.1%, respectively. Both currently carry a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). You can see the complete list of today's Zacks #1 Rank (Strong Buy) stocks here. Tesla Shares Plunge on Elon Musk's Political Gambit Tesla, Inc.'s TSLA shares plunged about 6.8% on Monday, largely due to Elon Musk's announcement that he was forming a new political party, dubbed the "America Party". This reignited investor fears that he would be distracted from running Tesla effectively. The stock slide marked Tesla's worst single-day performance since June 5, as the political move intensified tensions between Musk and President Trump and raised broader concerns about leadership focus at a time when the EV maker is already grappling with falling deliveries. That drop contributed to market-wide unease triggered by newly announced tariffs. Analysts say the convergence of heightened trade uncertainty and Musk steering into political territory unsettled investors, particularly as Tesla was under pressure to ramp up production and maintain its competitive edge. No economic data was released on Monday. Asian nations push for U.S. tariff concessions before August deadline

President Donald Trump speaks during an event to announce new tariffs in the Rose Garden at the White House, Wednesday, April 2, 2025, in Washington, as Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick listens. (AP Photo/Mark Schiefelbein) WASHINGTON/TOKYO — Powerhouse Asian economies Japan and South Korea said on Tuesday they would try to negotiate with the U.S. to soften the impact of sharply higher tariffs that President Donald Trump now plans to impose from the start of August. Trump ramped up his trade war again on Monday, telling 14 nations that they would face tariffs ranging from 25 per cent for countries including Japan and South Korea, to 40 per cent for Laos and Myanmar. However, with the start date pushed back to August 1, it effectively created a three-week window for countries to press for better terms, while prolonging damaging uncertainty about the terms of trade. Stephen Miran, chairman of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, said he was optimistic that more trade deals could be struck before the end of the week. 'However, it's incumbent upon the other countries to make the concessions that convince the president that the deals are worth taking for America,' Miran told Fox News. Seeking concessions Japan wants concessions for its large automobile industry, top trade negotiator Ryosei Akazawa said on Tuesday. Akazawa said he held a 40-minute phone call with U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick in which the two agreed to actively continue negotiations. However, he said he would not sacrifice Japan's agriculture sector - a powerful political lobby domestically - for the sake of an early deal. South Korea said it planned to intensify trade talks over the coming weeks 'to reach a mutually beneficial result.'Asked if the latest deadline was firm, Trump replied on Monday: 'I would say firm but not 100 per cent firm. If they call up and they say we'd like to do something a different way, we're going to be open to that.' Global stocks showed muted reaction on Tuesday, as investors took in their stride the latest twist in the tariff saga, but the yen slid on the prospect of duties on Japanese goods. Economists warned that the long-running tariff disputes risked stunting growth and pushing up prices, causing headaches for policymakers. 'The ongoing threat of higher tariffs intensifies stagflationary risks in the U.S. and puts pressure on Europe to stimulate domestic demand further in order to offset headwinds in international trade,' said David Kohl, chief economist at Swiss-based bank Julius Baer. Following Trump's announcement of new higher tariff rates for the 14 countries, U.S. research group Yale Budget Lab estimates consumers face an effective U.S. tariff rate of 17.6 per cent, up from 15.8 per cent previously and the highest since 1934. Goldman Sachs said Monday's actions would add 1.4 percentage points to the U.S. effective tariff rate. German warning The European Union, which is the largest bilateral trade partner of the U.S., aims to strike a deal before August 1 with negotiations focused on 'rebalancing' and concessions for certain key export industries, a European source familiar with the negotiations said. However, German Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil warned that the EU was prepared to retaliate if necessary. 'If we don't reach a fair trade deal with the U.S., the EU is ready to take counter measures,' Klingbeil said on Tuesday, speaking in the lower house of parliament. Some EU sources had said late on Monday that the bloc was close to an agreement with the Trump administration. This could involve limited concessions to U.S. baseline tariffs of ten per cent for aircraft and parts, some medical equipment and spirits. Only two deals have been struck so far, with Britain and Vietnam. Trump has also said a deal with India was close. Washington and Beijing agreed to a trade framework in June, but with many of the details still unclear, traders and investors are watching to see if it unravels before a separate, U.S.-imposed August 12 deadline or leads to a lasting detente. Spreading the pain Trump said the United States would impose tariffs of 25 per cent on goods from Tunisia, Malaysia and Kazakhstan, with levies of 30 per cent on South Africa, Bosnia and Herzegovina, climbing to 32 per cent on Indonesia, 35 per cent on Serbia and Bangladesh, 36 per cent on Cambodia and Thailand and 40 per cent on Laos and Myanmar. Cambodia, hit hard by levies imposed in April, on Tuesday hailed as a big success a reduction in the tariff rate from 49 to 36 per cent and said it was seeking to negotiate a further cut. The tariffs have been an issue for Cambodia's garments and footwear sector, a major employer and the biggest driver of its economy. The U.S. is also the main export market for Bangladesh's ready-made garments industry, which accounts for more than 80 per cent of its export earnings and employs 4 million people. 'This is absolutely shocking news for us,' Mahmud Hasan Khan, president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, told Reuters on Tuesday. 'We were really hoping the tariffs would be somewhere between 10-20 per cent. This will hurt our industry badly.' --- Reporting by Dan Burns, Bhargav Acharya, Jack Kim, Ju-min Park, Jihoon Lee, Joyce Lee, Philip Blenkinsop, Julia Payne, Olivia Le Poidevin, Emma Farge, Rachel More Martin Petty Writing by Keith Weir; Editing by Hugh Lawson and Bernadette Baum
