‘We're not going to Old Trafford to take videos' – Lyon's Moussa Niakhaté issues warning ahead of Manchester United clash

Olympique Lyonnais have set up a UEFA Europa League quarter-final clash against Manchester United after beating FCSB 7-1 on aggregate.
After winning the first leg 3-1, Lyon were professional in going about their task in the second. OL, at home, grew the advantage over their Romanian opponents, playing attacking, proactive football from the outset. Georges Mikautadze was the standout, netting two of Lyon's four goals on the night and assisting the other two, which were scored by Ernest Nuamah. Both of the Georgian's goals were set up by Rayan Cherki, who now sits pretty at the top of the assists ranking in this year's edition of the Europa League.
Their reward for progression is a tricky tie against Manchester United, who are considered one of the favourites to lift the trophy in Bilbao later this year. However, speaking last night, Moussa Niakhaté laid out OL's intentions.
'We play football for matches like that, against United,' began the former Nottingham Forest defender, who made a big-money move to the Rhône side last summer. 'They are one of the best clubs in history but we aren't going there to take photos or visit Old Trafford, but to qualify. We have the team to cause them problems. We are here to go to the end,' he added.

By Aman Shukla Published on June 28, 2025, 10:48 IST The FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Round of 16 is heating up, and all eyes are on the blockbuster clash between Benfica and Chelsea at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, on June 28, 2025. This all-European showdown promises fireworks as both teams battle for a quarter-final spot against either Palmeiras or Botafogo. Let's dive into the match preview, potential lineups and our take on who'll come out on top. Match Details: Benfica vs Chelsea Date : Saturday, June 28, 2025 : Saturday, June 28, 2025 Time : 4:00 PM ET (9:00 PM BST) : 4:00 PM ET (9:00 PM BST) Venue : Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte, NC : Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte, NC Where to Watch : Stream live for free on DAZN globally : Stream live for free on DAZN globally Referee: Slavko Vinčić (Slovenia) Benfica have been the surprise package of the tournament, topping Group C with a stunning 1-0 win over Bayern Munich. Chelsea, meanwhile, finished second in Group D behind Flamengo but showed their quality with a 3-0 rout of ES Tunis. With history favoring the Blues and Benfica riding a wave of confidence, this match is anyone's game. Benfica's Road to the Knockouts Benfica have turned heads in their Club World Cup debut. They kicked things off with a gritty 2-2 draw against Boca Juniors, clawing back from two goals down. A 6-0 thrashing of Auckland City followed, before they pulled off the upset of the tournament—a 1-0 victory over Bayern Munich, thanks to Andreas Schjelderup's early goal and a masterclass from goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin. The Eagles are led by the evergreen Ángel Di María, who's bagged three penalties in the group stage, and a rock-solid defense anchored by Nicolás Otamendi. But Chelsea won't be an easy task—Benfica have lost all three previous competitive meetings with the Blues, including the 2013 Europa League final. Can they rewrite history? Chelsea's Group Stage Journey Chelsea's group stage had its ups and downs. They started strong with a 2-0 win over LAFC, where Pedro Neto and summer signing Liam Delap shone. A 3-1 loss to Flamengo exposed some cracks, but they bounced back with a commanding 3-0 win over ES Tunis, with goals from Tosin Adarabioyo, Delap, and young star Tyrique George. Enzo Maresca's side is a blend of youth and experience, with Cole Palmer pulling the strings in attack and Enzo Fernández controlling the midfield. Despite missing striker Nicolas Jackson due to suspension, Chelsea's squad depth makes them a tough opponent. They'll need to be at their best to handle Benfica's attacking threat. Expected Lineups Benfica (4-2-3-1) Goalkeeper : Anatoliy Trubin : Anatoliy Trubin Defenders : Fredrik Aursnes, António Silva, Nicolás Otamendi, Alexander Dahl : Fredrik Aursnes, António Silva, Nicolás Otamendi, Alexander Dahl Midfielders : Leandro Barreiro, Renato Sanches : Leandro Barreiro, Renato Sanches Attacking Midfielders : Ángel Di María, Gianluca Prestianni, Andreas Schjelderup : Ángel Di María, Gianluca Prestianni, Andreas Schjelderup Striker : Vangelis Pavlidis : Vangelis Pavlidis Manager: Bruno Lage. Chelsea (4-2-3-1) Goalkeeper : Robert Sánchez : Robert Sánchez Defenders : Reece James, Tosin Adarabioyo, Levi Colwill, Marc Cucurella : Reece James, Tosin Adarabioyo, Levi Colwill, Marc Cucurella Midfielders : Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernández : Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernández Attacking Midfielders : Pedro Neto, Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke : Pedro Neto, Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke Striker : Liam Delap : Liam Delap Manager: Enzo Maresca. Head-to-Head History Chelsea has dominated Benfica in the past, winning all three competitive clashes: 2011-12 Champions League Quarter-finals : Chelsea 1-0 Benfica (away), 2-1 (home) : Chelsea 1-0 Benfica (away), 2-1 (home) 2013 Europa League Final: Chelsea 2-1 Benfica While those games were years ago, Chelsea's record could give them a mental edge. Still, Benfica's current form suggests they're ready to challenge that history. Prediction: Who Wins? This one's tough to call. Benfica's defensive grit and Di María's magic make them a real threat, especially after their Bayern upset. But Chelsea's squad depth, with Palmer's creativity and Fernández's midfield control, gives them a slight advantage. We expect a tight game, with Chelsea's quick transitions and clinical finishing making the difference. Score Prediction: Benfica 1-2 Chelsea Ahmedabad Plane Crash Aman Shukla is a post-graduate in mass communication . Fabrizio Romano reveals what Man Utd plan to do after ‘no agreement' with Brentford on Bryan Mbeumo

Fabrizio Romano reveals what Man Utd plan to do after 'no agreement' with Brentford on Bryan Mbeumo Fabrizio Romano shares the latest updates on the thorny negotiations between Manchester United and Brentford for Bryan Mbeumo. Having acquired Matheus Cunha in recent weeks, the Premier League giants have identified the 25-year-old as their second desired attacking reinforcement. But while the Brazilian's contract with Wolves included a release clause that facilitated the process, the Reds are forced to find an agreement with the stubborn Brentford for the Cameroonian winger. Advertisement MUFC had opened up with a £45m plus £10m bid that was understandably rejected, with the Bees setting their initial asking price at £70 million. Many believed the two clubs would find a compromise somewhere down the middle, so INEOS took their time before launching a new and improved offer, believing it would unlock the situation. Nevertheless, Brentford remain defiant, continuing to seek higher figures. Man United still hoping to find agreement with Brentford for Bryan Mbeumo (Photo by) In the latest video update posted on his official YouTube channel, Romano tries to make sense of the whole situation. Advertisement The Italian journalist confirms that the two clubs have yet to find an agreement on Mbeumo. As he explains, Brentford believe the 25-year-old is worth more, based on the figures paid for other players in the past. This could be a reference to the likes of Rasmus Hojlund, Jadon Sancho and Antony. Nevertheless, Romano reveals that Man Utd remain confident and optimistic. The management is determined to reach the finish line, so they continue to negotiate with their Premier League counterparts in the hopes of bridging the gap. Mbeumo's keen desire to join Man Utd could be fundamental The transfer market expert also reiterates that Mbeumo had long given his favour to United, refusing all other destinations. Hence, the player's clear desire to join the Old Trafford outfit could be an instrumental factor in this soap opera. Mbeumo is coming off a sensational campaign, scoring 20 goals in the Premier League, including some absolute screamers. Hence, Man Utd aren't willing to let him slip through their fingers, especially after striking an agreement with his entourage on personal terms.

Brentford reject Manchester United's second bid for Bryan Mbeumo

Brentford have turned down a second offer from Manchester United for Bryan Mbeumo, per The Athletic's David Ornstein. The Red Devils are looking to bolster their attack after a humiliating 2024-25 campaign, finishing 15th in the Premier League and losing the Europa League final. Advertisement Man Utd have already completed a £62.5 million move for forward Matheus Cunha, and they are now prioritising a winger. They have identified Mbeumo as an ideal option, who scored 20 goals and provided eight assists in 38 Premier League appearances last season. The 25-year-old has only a year left on his contract at the Gtech Community Stadium, but Brentford have the option to extend by another 12 months. Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Arsenal have also been linked, but Mbeumo has informed the Bees he only wants to join United. Ruben Amorim's side made an opening offer worth £45m plus £10m in add-ons, but that was rejected. Advertisement Their second proposal at £55m and £7.5m of bonuses was expected to be enough, but that has also been turned down. However, talks continue between the two clubs and there is confidence a transfer can be completed soon. United reportedly have the funds available for signing Mbeumo without requiring sales in advance. But they want to avoid overpaying for players in the market, a mistake they have been making over the previous years. Stats from Transfermarkt
