A helicopter, initially delayed by rain and winds, surveyed the scene. 'No signs of life were observed on Laila Peak during the aerial search, partly due to poor weather conditions,' Firaq said in an interview.
Rescuers were at first hampered by the site's remoteness and the danger of further rockfalls. A multinational team of six with the support of the Pakistani military began a joint operation Wednesday to reach Ms. Dahlmeier. They reached the location of the body and visually confirmed her identity, Firaq said. 'Efforts are currently underway to retrieve it and transport it back to base camp,' he said.

Ms. Dahlmeier won the sprint and pursuit events in biathlon at the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea, and added a bronze in the individual event. In Germany, she had helped boost the popularity of the biathlon, a cross-country ski race in which participants also shoot at targets. She won five gold medals at the 2017 world championships in Hochfilzen, Austria, among a total of seven in her career.

But she left the sport in 2019 at age 25, saying, 'I no longer feel the 100 percent passion that is needed for professional sports.'
In retirement, in addition to mountain climbing, she participated in mountain-running races.
'Laura Dahlmeier was an exceptional athlete whose international successes in biathlon fascinated and thrilled not only winter sports fans,' Germany's president, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, said in a statement. 'I was fortunate enough to be there as a spectator when she won her first Olympic gold medal at the 2018 Winter Games in South Korea. Back then in Pyeongchang, she impressed not only with her athletic performance and nerves of steel, but also with her personality, with her likable, open and passionate manner.'

Son Heung-min Announces He's Leaving Spurs Amid Links To LAFC
After 10 years with Tottenham, captain Son Heung-min announced on Saturday that he plans to leave the English Premier League club. Son, who helped Spurs win the Europa League title in May, said it was "the most difficult" decision of his career and added the club was supporting him as he looks to find another team, with Los Angeles FC a possible landing spot. The 33-year-old South Korea international will start against Newcastle in a preseason friendly Sunday in Seoul in what could be his final match with the team. Son, who scored 173 goals in 454 competitive appearances for Tottenham, opened the news conference by announcing he has "decided to leave this club in this summer" and that Spurs are "helping me to my decisions." "I came to north London as a kid, 23 years old, very young age, a young boy came to London who even didn't speak English and leaving this club as a grown man is a very, very proud moment," said Son, who fought back tears during his announcement. "So I just want to say thank you to all of the Spurs fans," he added, "that gave me so much love and felt like it was my home. It was one of the toughest decisions I ever made.... But I think it's the right time to make this decision." Son was asked in Korean about his future playing plans, and he replied: "I don't think I have an answer yet." He has been heavily linked with a move to LAFC, and there is reported interest from Saudi Arabian clubs. Son also confirmed in Korean that he would play at the World Cup next summer in North America. In May, Son finally won his first title in Europe when Tottenham defeated Manchester United in the Europa League final — the club's first major trophy since 2008. After that match, he said: "I felt the pressure. I wanted it so badly. It finally happened, and I can sleep easy now." Son added that the team's recent success was a factor in his decision. "Winning the Europa League made me feel I had achieved everything I could here," he said. "I need a new environment for a fresh challenge." Son had been one of the biggest stars of the Premier League as he and Harry Kane became a formidable attacking partnership. Tottenham reached the Champions League final in 2019, losing to Liverpool. After Kane's departure to Bayern Munich in 2023, Son was made captain by former head coach Ange Postecoglou. Son a 'Spurs legend' Thomas Frank succeeded Postecoglou in June and the Danish coach paid tribute to Son on Saturday. "He is truly a Spurs legend in every aspect," Frank said. "One of the best players to ever play in the Premier League, in my opinion, as a winger. I think it is probably the perfect timing, going out on a high." Son is No. 5 on Tottenham's all-time goalscoring list, led by Kane (280 goals). Among other impressive stats, Son's 333 Premier League appearances is second-most in club history, trailing only Hugo Lloris (361). Later in the news conference, Son reiterated he has not decided on his next club. But he said next year's World Cup is his No. 1 priority for his home country. "I think I can share more about my future after tomorrow's game once things become more certain," he said. "My most important priority right now is the World Cup. It's likely to be my last World Cup and I want to give everything I have in that environment. I want to be able to play football happily, which I think will play the biggest role in my future decision-making. I am still trying to organize my thoughts around that." The dream lives on for Australian swim champ
Cam McEvoy, now an Olympic and world champion, doesn't know when he'll swim again. "But I'm not stopping," McEvoy said. "Imagine telling myself in 2022 this is where I'd be - you couldn't write a script like that. "The dream lives on, right? My story just goes for a while." McEvoy almost quit the sport in 2022. After much soul-searching he continued, vowed to do things his way, and created his own revolutionary training regime. Now, he's the Olympic and world champion in the 50m freestyle. In Singapore on Saturday night, the 31-year-old became Australia's oldest gold medallist at a world championships - three weeks after becoming a dad for the first time. "Shoutout to (wife) Maddi at home, I couldn't be here without her; shoutout to Hartley, my three-week-old son," he said. "I'm going straight to the newborn trenches. "I'll start to do the night routines, help Maddi, and just enjoy the bubble, really. "It sounds cliche, but win or lose, I'm going home a winner. "It has given me a new light on the sport, on life, something new to navigate. "And I'll see where it takes me in the future." McEvoy's latest success came as Kaylee McKeown captured another gold on Saturday night, in the women's 200m backstroke. McKeown has now completed 100-200 backstroke golden doubles at her past two world championships, and also at last year's Olympics. "I wasn't feeling too great heading in, a bit of illness and stuff going around, dealing with a bit of a shoulder (injury)," said McKeown, who dislocated a shoulder leading into the titles. "I dug really deep." Australia's Lani Pallister (women's 800m freestyle) and Alexandria Perkins (women's 50m butterfly) also collected silver on Saturday night. Australia, with seven gold, four silver and six bronze medals, enter Sunday's final night of competition behind only the United States (seven, 11, seven) on the medal tally.

Alex Laferriere agrees to a 3-year, $12.3 million deal to stay with the LA Kings
Associated Press EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) — Forward Alex Laferriere has agreed to a three-year, $12.3 million deal to stay with the Los Angeles Kings. The Kings announced the deal Saturday for Laferriere, who was a restricted free agent this summer after playing out his entry-level contract. The 23-year-old Laferriere had 19 goals and 23 assists last year for the Kings, emerging as a dependable scorer in only his second NHL season. He largely played on the right wing alongside center Quinton Byfield, another key member of Los Angeles' young core, and high-scoring Kevin Fiala. A third-round pick in the 2020 draft, Laferriere has 31 goals and 34 assists in 158 games for the Kings. New Los Angeles general manager Ken Holland has taken care of his most pressing summer contract issues after the signing of Laferriere, but Holland said last month that he would be eager to sign Adrian Kempe to a long-term deal as the Swedish forward heads into the final season of his current contract. ___ AP NHL:
