ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)The Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) has launched its NextGen Summer Program, a week-long initiative designed to introduce high school students in Grades 10–12 to the fast-evolving world of artificial intelligence, innovation, and emerging technologies.Hosted at the MBZUAI campus in Abu Dhabi, the immersive programme brings together 38 high-performing students from across the UAE, for hands-on workshops and expert-led sessions. The students were selected from more than 150 applications, highlighting the programme's competitiveness. They will collaborate on projects requiring real-world AI applications in sectors such as healthcare, mobility, climate, and the creative industries.What sets the programme apart is its strong focus on real-world relevance. Under the guidance of MBZUAI faculty and industry mentors, students will use platforms like Python, Google Colab, and Kaggle to work with real datasets and explore how AI models are designed, tested, and evaluated. Sessions on AI ethics, bias, and future career paths will reinforce the importance of using technology thoughtfully and with awareness of their broader societal impact.Rawdha AlMeraikhi, Director of Outreach at MBZUAI, said: "We designed NextGen to spark curiosity, build skills, and give students a realistic glimpse into the future of AI, not just as a technology, but as a tool to create meaningful change. It's a unique opportunity for students to build confidence, explore their potential in one of the world's most impactful fields, and potentially become the next MBZUAI students and future leaders in AI.'
The programme supports the UAE's broader vision to build national capabilities in advanced technology, in alignment with the UAE National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2031, which aims to position the country as a global leader in AI innovation and adoption. It also aligns with Abu Dhabi's ambition to become the world's first fully AI-native government by 2027.

24 July 2025 15:14 ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)In conjunction with the launch of the 21st Liwa Date Festival 2025, the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA), has released the Abu Dhabi Date Varieties Guide, a comprehensive reference for the most prominent date varieties in the pavilion at the festival will promote the guide to help farmers, visitors, and stakeholders learn about palm farming and date 61 date varieties classified by their environmental and geographical traits, the guide clarifies varieties suitable for arid regions and others adapted to high-humidity coastal areas. The guide further provides in-depth details on ripening times, production rates, unique traits for each variety, and recommendations to improve quality and guide highlights several prominent date varieties, including Fard, which is widely grown in Abu Dhabi, particularly in Al Ain Region. It is a commercial variety consumed both fully ripe (Rutab), and dry (Tamer). Another variety is Dabbas, a commercially significant variety that thrives in arid environments, such as the Al Dhafra region. The guide also introduces Naghal dates, an early-maturing variety of high economic value, primarily consumed when fully ripe (Rutab).ADAFSA emphasised that releasing this guide aligns with its strategy to promote sustainable agriculture and provide farmers with accurate information for selecting environmentally appropriate varieties. Moreover, the guide will contribute to preserving the diversity of local varieties while enhancing the economic value of the emirate's date palm to ADAFSA, the guide serves as a technical reference for farmers and professionals to improve agricultural productivity and food security through the cultivation of high-quality local cultivars. The authority emphasised that publishing such guides reinforces its efforts to promote Abu Dhabi's position as a leading hub for sustainable agriculture, aligning with Abu Dhabi's vision for comprehensive and sustainable development. The guide is available to the public on ADAFSA's website and will also be distributed to farmers as part of ADAFSA's awareness programmes and initiatives, ensuring its information is accessible to all target groups, with a focus on visitors of the Liwa Date Festival 2025.

Open to students, professionals, sports enthusiasts, and community champions, volunteers are key to the event's success and to creating a lasting community Excellency Ahmed Taleb Al Shamsi, Chief Executive Officer at Emirates Foundation, said, 'Volunteering in the Open Masters Games Abu Dhabi 2026 is more than just a contribution of time — it is a message of passion and belonging.
