India's stock benchmarks off to a muted start on tariff jitters; Trump says India deal close
(Reuters) -India's benchmark shares were muted on Tuesday, after U.S. President Donald Trump pushed the implementation of tariffs to August 1 and announced steep import levies on several trading partners, while signalling that an India deal was close. The Nifty 50 fell 0.13% to 25,427.85 points and the BSE Sensex lost 0.07% to 83,387.03, as of 9:15 a.m. IST. Eight of the 13 major sectors advanced marginally at the open. The broader small-caps and mid-caps traded flat. Trump on Monday announced a 25% levy on key Asian allies Japan and South Korea while extending the deadline for the implementation of tariffs to August 1 from July 9, leaving room for more deals to be finalised. A deal with India was close, he said. Tariffs are expected to increase prices and slow growth, although uncertainty over the ultimate policies may be a bigger drag as it leads businesses to postpone decisions. Wall Street slid, with the S&P 500 Index logging its biggest drop in three weeks. Asian markets were mixed on the day, with MSCI's broadest index for Asia-Pacific stocks outside Japan down 0.1%. Jefferies initiates buy on Siemens Energy stock, sees 17% upside on strong earnings and margin outlook
By News Desk Published on July 8, 2025, 08:47 IST Jefferies has initiated coverage on Siemens Energy with a Buy rating and a target price of ₹3,500, implying a potential upside of nearly 17% from the current market price of ₹3,001.10. The brokerage expects robust earnings growth and margin expansion over the next three years, supported by operating leverage and sector tailwinds. Jefferies projects a 50% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in earnings per share (EPS) and a 30% revenue CAGR over FY24–27, driven by a strong order pipeline and capacity expansions in the transmission and distribution (T&D) segment. Operating leverage is expected to drive a 460 basis points improvement in margins by FY27, making Siemens Energy one of the most profitable players in the Indian energy equipment space. The target price is based on a 65x price-to-earnings (PE) multiple on March 2027 earnings—representing a 5% discount to Hitachi, reflecting relative valuation comfort. Jefferies sees Siemens Energy as well-positioned to capitalise on India's growing investments in grid infrastructure and green energy. Jefferies maintains buy on Zydus Lifesciences, sees 15.5% upside on resilient FY26 growth outlook
By News Desk Published on July 8, 2025, 08:50 IST Jefferies has reaffirmed its Buy rating on Zydus Lifesciences with a target price of ₹1,150, implying a potential upside of 15.5% from the current market price of ₹996.00. The brokerage expressed confidence in the company's FY26 performance, supported by a strong growth outlook across both U.S. and ex-U.S. markets. Management has reiterated guidance for double-digit revenue growth and operating margins above 26% in FY26. Jefferies noted that despite a high base in FY25, the company expects its U.S. business to continue expanding in the current fiscal year. Additionally, markets outside the U.S. are also projected to deliver double-digit growth, helping to diversify earnings and reduce dependency on a single geography. Importantly, the brokerage believes that the decline in Revlimid sales—a headwind for many Indian pharmaceutical exporters—will have a comparatively lower impact on Zydus than on its peers, positioning the company more favourably in the near-to-medium term.
