ESPN's Mina Kimes on why Falcons fans are the best in the NFL
The Atlanta Falcons have one of the most interesting fan bases in the entire NFL. Of the 12 teams that have never won a Super Bowl, the Falcons have gotten by far the closest. Atlanta could practically taste the champagne with a 28-3 lead over the Patriots back in Super Bowl 51.
We all know how that game ended, and it's something fans will never fully get over. However, one NFL expert believes those scars are what make Falcons fans the best in the entire league. ESPN analyst Mina Kimes explained why she ranked Atlanta as her No. 1 NFL fan base.
"The Atlanta Falcons are the best fan base in the entire NFL," said Kimes. "They have been through the most. Nobody has been through 28-3. They by far have the weirdest team. They endure all of this constant ongoing humiliation with equanimity, poise, resilience. They also have the perfect blend of nihilism with a tiny bit of hope, that I find unbelievably charming."
Kimes praised the fans for their lack of delusion when it comes to the team, citing the recent trade for edge rusher James Pearce as an example.
"Most of them understand that the James Pearce trade in the draft -- the criticism is warranted," said Kimes. "But they also are allowing themselves to get excited and hopeful that one of these pass rushers that they drafted will work out."
Falcons fans have never been known for their optimism, which is somewhat rare in a league where people tend to view their favorite teams with rose-colored glasses.
In 2025, Atlanta will attempt to return to the playoffs for the first time since the 2017 season. The NFL released the full 2025 regular season schedule on Wednesday. Check out our score predictions for all 17 Falcons games.

Jonathan Gannon is rebuilding the Arizona Cardinals playbook
Perhaps Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon believes a few playbook changes could help the team get over the hump in 2025. Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon is prepared to take the team franchise on an incline after 2024. With a roster full of dynamic talent on both offense and defense, Gannon has openly expressed his intent to restructure and expand the team playbook moving ahead. Gannon likely conveyed a few constructive comments toward offensive coordinator Drew Petzing who was piloting the team offensive play-calling last season. Petzing seemed to hit a wall in the last few games, especially in the passing attack. The Cardinals finished just No. 18 in team passing yards per game last season. Wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. and Greg Dortch were targeted at a combined total of 166 times throughout the season, with Harrison Jr. averaging 14.3 yards per catch and Dortch finishing with 9.2 yards per catch. An improved passing attack should definitely be an area of focus for the franchise heading into 2025. Ultimately, an optimized passing attack should minimize the interception totals for quarterback Kyler Murray and raise his general morale. Gannon explained in a press conference after Day 1 of training camp that the coaching staff will be picking up where they'd left off last season. In short, the many highlights on both sides of the ball need to be revisited and the bloopers on both sides of the ball need to be expunged. Ultimately, Gannon may want to abandon some of Petzing's tendencies and opt for a more traditional play style that both minimizes difficulty on third-downs and makes manageable chances for running backs Trey Benson and James Conner in the rushing attack. Changes on defense may also arise, including the usage of 4-3 instead of 3-4 on early downs. LOOK: Matt Ryan makes appearance at Falcons training camp
Former Falcons QB was in attendance for Sunday's training camp practice The Atlanta Falcons had a special visitor in attendance as they went through their third training camp practice on Sunday morning. Former Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan brought his sons down to the Flowery Branch facility to get a closer look at this year's team. Ryan, who started for Atlanta from 2008 to 2021, has made the transition to television analyst following his retirement. The former league MVP met with second-year quarterback Michael Penix Jr. over the offseason to pass along some wisdom. Penix, who is entering his first full season as the Falcons' starting QB, said he received advice on how to plan for the offseason from Ryan. Since the team has not made the playoffs since Ryan was still playing for Atlanta, having him back around couldn't hurt. During his 14-year run with the Falcons, Ryan passed for 59,735 yards, 367 touchdowns and 170 interceptions. The former third overall pick made four Pro Bowls, one All-Pro team, and was the 2008 Offensive Rookie of the Year. Penix started the final three games of the 2024 season in relief of Kirk Cousins, passing for 775 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions. He also rushed for a score on the ground during his impressive 312-yard, three-touchdown performance in the season finale. The future looks bright with Penix under center as the team attempts to finally snap its seven-year playoff drought in 2025.
