The BBC tease: "Agnes Brown and the gang from Finglas are back! "Everyone's favourite Irish Mammy returns for a brand new fifth series featuring all your favourite characters, so get ready for more slapstick shenanigans this spring!" The BBC's head of comedy, Jon Petrie added: "Brendan has created an iconic comedy character in Agnes Brown. "Mrs. Brown's Boys is a BAFTA-winning comedy show and one of the BBC's most-watched comedies ever. I'm proud to have it in the BBC Comedy stable." The BBC have also reportedly commissioned a full series of a new comedy starring Mrs Brown's Boys star Brendan O'Carroll alongside Tommy Cannon. Filming on the series is due to commence in July and will air on BBC One. Titled Shedites, Mrs Brown's Boys star Brendan Carroll plays the lead role 'Jimmy', with Tommy Cannon starring as his best friend. Produced by BBC Studios, Brendan's Mrs Brown's Boys co-writer Paddy Houlihan scripted Shedites. Speaking to The Irish Sun in December 2023, Brendan shared: 'I've been advocating for the BBC to make this show for a long time because as well as being really funny, it highlights men's mental health. Mrs Brown's Boys star insists racist joke at Christmas special filming 'was a good thing' for the BBC because it 'raised awareness' 'It's not something men talk about, but it's got easier because of the men's shed movement which has sprung up in UK and Ireland. 'There's a kitchen, a card table and all that but even more important, men can go there and talk through their problems.' It comes following calls from Jon Petrie, The Director of Comedy at the BBC, to "save our sitcoms." He previously said: "If our comedy eco-system is shrinking, then it's on all us to fight for the right of UK mainstream comedy to exist. Best BBC comedies A BBC boss called on the industry to "save our sitcoms", but the corporation has a history of fantastic shows. We look back at some of the best to ever grace the screen. Fawlty Towers (1975-1979) - Only two series were made of the beloved institution. However, the cultural impact of the series starring John Cleese and Connie Booth spans decades. It follows rude and intolerant Basil Fawlty (Cleese) as he attempts to improve the reputation of his hotel. Only Fools and Horses (1981-2003) - The show was crowned by some as the best British sitcom of all time by a TV poll in 2004. Seven series were broadcast on BBC until 1991 with additional sporadic Christmas specials airing until 2003. Sir David Jason starred as ambitious market trader Derek "Del Boy" Trotter whilst Nicholas Lyndhurst played his younger half-brother Rodney. Set in working-class Peckham in south-east London, it follows the highs and lows of the lives of the Trotters', in particular their brazen attempts to get rich. Blackadder (1983 - 1989) - Four series were made of the iconic show, created by Richard Curtis and Rowan Atkinson. Each series spans a different historical period as anti-hero Edmund Blackadder (Atkinson) tries to better himself in each society. Accompanied by his dogsbody Baldrick (Tony Robinson), trouble always ensues. A TV poll in 2004 found that Blackadder was voted the second-best British sitcom of all time Absolutely Fabulous (1992 - 2012) - Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley star as failing PR guru Edina 'Eddie' Monsoon and alcoholic fashionista Patsy Stone. The pair embark on heavy-drinking sessions and abuse drugs in a desperate attempt to stay 'hip'. Eddie constantly chases bizarre fads and fails to lose weight whilst her disappointed and neglected daughter Saffy (Julia Sawalha) looks on. Little Britain (2003 - 2006) - The premise is simple. A sketch show which features different British people from all walks of life that are engaged in all sorts of comical scenarios. Starring Matt Lucas and David Walliams, the pair created iconic pop culture characters. Viewers loved obnoxious council estate teenager Vicky Pollard, morbidly obese scrounger Bubbles Devere, slimming coach Marjorie Dawes, despondent office worker Carol Beer, disgraced politician Sir Norman Fry, of course the iconic Lou and Andy! The Catherine Tate Show (2004-2015) - A sketch show starring the likes of Catherine Tate. She made iconic characters such as rowdy schoolgirl Lauren Cooper with her line 'Am I bovvered?'. Other characters featured Bernie the nurse, the aga saga woman, complaining couple Janice and Ray, and of course her infamous 'Nan', Joannie Taylor. The last character herself spawned multiple specials and even a movie. Gavin and Stacey (2007 - Present) The series tells the story of Gavin (Matthew Horne) and Stacey (Joanna Page). The pair embarked on an online and telephone romance for six months. But when they finally decide to be together properly, their friends and family get in the way. Ruth Jones and James Corden created the beloved show, which has been going for over a decade. The 2019 Christmas special was the most-watched comedy in 17 years and the most-viewed non-sporting event in a decade. "The sitcom isn't dead but it needs a couple of Berocca. And a black americano with two sugars." News of the Mrs Browns boys return comes after Brendan O'Carroll was forced to issue a grovelling apology after he cracked a 'joke' using the N-word in front of a junior member of production who was so upset they later quit. Last year, the BBC temporarily halted filming of the show's Christmas special after Brendan made the attempted gag which he later admitted it had backfired. A TV insider said: 'Virtually everyone in the room on the day that the outburst happened were shocked, but the reading continued for some time without anyone saying or doing anything as they were so stunned. 'There was no excuses for what he said or any kind of context or mitigation he could provide for making the slur, he just seemed to think it was amusing.' Brendan said of the incident: 'At a read-through of the Mrs Brown's Boys Christmas specials, there was a clumsy attempt at a joke, where a racial term was implied. 'It backfired and caused offence, which I deeply regret and for which I have apologised.'

Marta Jiménez, 34, had became popular for her daredevil stunts on TV, landing her the nickname 'Adrenaline Woman' but she tragically died in a horror base jumping accident A popular TV presenter, known as "Adrenaline Woman", has died in a tragic accident while base jumping. Spanish presenter Marta Jiménez, 34, gained her daredevil nickname for her daring and high-octane stunts, which she performed on TV. Her colleagues on the Spanish chat show "El Hormiguero" (The Anthill) confirmed Marta's tragic death and insisted that she would not be forgotten. At work, Marta's daredevil activities brought excitement to millions of people in Spain who tuned into the show, but the 34-year-old died while doing one of these thrilling activities. Marta went base jumping in the Pyrenees mountains, near the northeastern city of Huesca, on Sunday at around 10.30am. Her adventure went horrifically wrong when the presenter had an accident. The exact details of this tragic accident and what caused the incident have not been shared yet. Emergency crews rushed to the scene but they were unable to save Marta, her TV show said in a statement. Rescue teams even brought a helicopter to the site but they found the woman's lifeless body at the location. Her co-host Pablo Motos confirmed the sad death on social media. He said: "Marta has left us, the adrenaline woman, she lost her life doing what she loved most." Marta's body was taken to the Insititute of Legal Medicine in Huesca for a post-mortem, following the tragic incident. Marta was particularly popular on the TV show and was famous for her adventurous activities. One of her most famous stunts was base jumping almost 200 feet from a crane, but at the time admitted she suffered a panic attack before this jump, due to nerves. Motos posted a video of the well-known jump and shared a touching tribute to his co-star. He sad: "We are devastated. But our feeling of helplessness and our sadness won't stop us from remembering her when she screamed with joy at having achieved something impossible. I'm sharing one of those moments with you through tears." Some heartbroken fans also shared emotional tributes to the TV star. One person said: "I read the news and remembered the moments she gave us. Best wishes to all her family, friends colleagues that loves her. Remember her courage and her smile." Another wrote: "Your joy and vitality will always accompany us! Fly high, Marta!" A British parachutist, who worked on a Mission Impossible film, also tragically died when his wingsuit failed on a base jump in the Alps, an inquest heard. Daredevil Dylan Roberts, 32, was killed 20 seconds into a flight from a well-known base jumping cliff in Italy in June 2022. His death was concluded to be a "tragic accident" as a coroner said Mr Roberts was a skydiving instructor who took safety extremely seriously. His family said Mr Roberts, who coordinated parachute stunts on a Mission Impossible film, "died doing what he loved".

Who could replace John Torode and Gregg Wallace as BBC's new MasterChef's judges
Now John Torode and Gregg Wallace have been fired from BBC's MasterChef – who could be stepping into their shoes? The overhaul comes after an independent review commissioned by production company Banijay, into misconduct accusations against Wallace, 60, upheld 45 of the 83 allegations, leading to his official removal from the cooking reality series. Torode, 59, exited hot on his heels after admitting he was subject to the racial language accusation featured in the review, although he has claimed he has 'no recollection' of the incident. The BBC is now deciding what to do with all their pre-recorded content, including one MasterChef season with Torode and Wallace, and a Celebrity MasterChef season, as well as two festive specials with just Torode. The broadcaster has reiterated its commitment to giving the amateur chefs featured in the unaired season their chance to shine. Meanwhile, the director-general Tim Davie has said he sees a future for the show beyond 2028 (the year until which the contract is currently renewed), all of which means, new hosts are likely to be announced at some point. According to the latest rumours, here's who could be helming the show for its fresh start. Coming in strong as a frontrunner is restaurant critic Grace Dent, who was already tipped to be replacing Wallace even before Torode's sacking. The I'm A Celeb star, 51, started her journey on the BBC reality competition series as a contestant on the 2023 Christmas special. After Wallace was removed from the series at the end of 2024 after the misconduct allegation first came to light, Dent stepped in for him alongside Torode to film the new season of Celebrity MasterChef. Although it was unclear whether she would make the jump to the amateur series as a permanent replacement for Gregg, all signs point towards yes. Last week, The Sun reported that she was being lined up to take over to provide the show with a 'fresh start'. 'Grace is a natural fit for the show,' a source told the publication. 'She is also hosting Celebrity MasterChef alongside John. Grace loves to support up-and-coming talent in the industry and loves the format of the show.' Meanwhile, Pointless host Richard Osman added on the Rest is Entertainment podcast: 'Grace Dent hosted half of the celebrity one – whether we'll see that or not – but she can continue to host the celebrity one very very easily.' Earlier this year, BBC star Matt Tebbutt, 51, was posed as a potential replacement on both The Professionals and the traditional series after his success almost decade-long success presenting Saturday Kitchen. 'Matt rose to the challenge of coming into Saturday Kitchen after it was previously hosted by another big name in the world of food, James Martin,' an insider told The Sun at the time. The source added: 'He managed the feat of making it his own and almost making viewers forget who his predecessor was – now Beeb bosses, and the show producers Banijay, will be hoping he can work the same magic on MasterChef.' Osman added: 'There are so many great food presenters, Matt Tebbutt is now doing stuff on the professionals one for example, he'd be an amazing host for it.' What's more, in recent weeks, Tebbutt has also hinted that his tenure on Saturday Kitchen could come to an end in the near future. 'It's going to stop at some point. I'm going to have to do something,' he said on a podcast in March. Great British Menu star Andi Oliver, 62, has come forward as a top candidate to take over. According to the Gogglebox star has quickly become the fan-favourite at 5/2. 'Known for her upbeat energy and authority on Great British Menu, Andi's culinary credibility has made her a top choice among fans and bookmakers alike,' the site explained, per the Mirror. This casting would also mean she makes history as the first Black woman to present the show. Speaking about the MasterChef scandal when it first kicked off last year, Oliver told The Guardian 'there's a certain culture that allows it to happen.' The Stirring It Up podcast host (presented with her daughter Miquita Oliver) added: 'Culture will only change if we stop all the fake outrage and actually implement change.' Michelin-starred English chef Tom Kerridge is hot on Oliver's heels with his odds at 3/1. The multi-restaurant owner (Hand and Flowers and Coach) has hosted various BBC shows including The Hidden World of Hospitality, Tom Kerridge's Fresh Start and Top of the Shop with Tom Kerridge – so he has form. Odds analyst Dave James told The Mirror that Tom 'is attracting a lot of support.' James added: 'His profile is huge, and he's one of the most trusted names in British food. This could come down to what direction the BBC wants – prestige, relatability, or a bit of both.' Influencer Poppy O'Toole is a more left-field suggestion, but going strong in the odds at 4/1. The TikTok star grew to fame for her 'potato' series in which she showcased the many, many ways you can cook the humble spud. Now, she boasts 4.8 million followers. The chef, who has a strong following among the younger generation, has also made the jump to mainstream media as a regular fixture on ITV's This Morning and has even appeared as a judge on Cooking with the Stars. The cookbook writer could well draw in new viewers to the show as it heralds in a new era. There are several other names in the mix from the high-profile stars such as James Martin and Nigella Lawson, to those who have already played in the MasterChef field. More Trending This includes The Professionals judge Marcus Wareing and Irish chef Anna Haugh, who has stepped in for Wallace already. British-Italian cook Angela Hartnett, who was Gordon Ramsey's protégée, has also been floated as an option with her odds at 5/1. She has also appeared as a judge on Great British Menu with Andi, giving them a pre-existing working relationship. Finally, Great British Bake Off star Nadiya Hussain's name has also been floated – although the BBC recently announced they would not be producing anymore shows with her, which she has vocally criticised.
