A convicted heroin dealer has been arrested over a shooting linked to a dangerous city feud.
The 24-year-old criminal is being questioned over the gun attack at a south-inner city flat complex recently targeting junior associates of mobster Brian Rattigan.
Detectives also suspect the reckless criminal was also planning more shootings as part of the feud after a car linked to the incident was recovered parked in a housing estate over the weekend.
Emergency services were alerted to the firearm discharge in Dolphins Barn on Monday of last week.
A number of rounds were discharged but no injuries were reported. It's believed two brothers, who are aged in their 20s and centrally involved in the feuding, were the targets of the attack.
They are considered young associates of convicted killer Brian Rattigan and have been involved in an escalating feud with a man from Drimnagh. It has seen shootings, assaults and petrol bomb attacks carried out over the past month.
One source told the Irish Independent: 'Significant investigations have been underway into these feud incidents and as a result this man was identified as a suspect in the latest shooting.
'He is closely associated with the Drimnagh man involved in the feud while innocent women linked to both men have also been targeted.
'Those close to him have been badly beaten and had their homes shot up so this is deeply personal for him.
'The concern is that the car used was stashed away for further incidents, so his arrest is a significant result for gardaí'.
The suspect in custody is well-known to gardaí and previously served a lengthy jail term after being caught with thousands of euro worth of heroin in the south of the country.
He is currently being held on suspicion of committing firearms offences and can be held for up to three days. It's been reported that a number of children were playing in the area at the time of the shooting but no injuries were reported.
The gunman fled in a car which was recovered by gardaí in Crumlin over the weekend and seized for forensic examination.

The gun attack is seen as the first reprisal by associates of the young Drimnagh man who are feuding with the Rattigan associates.
Mob boss Rattigan, who is a convicted heroin dealer and killer, is not suspected of direct involvement in the feud although gardaí believe he has a major influence over the younger criminals involved.
Multiple serious incidents are being investigated as part of the feud including an arson attack on an innocent family's home.
In the early hours of May 21 reckless thugs petrol bombed the wrong house in Ballyfermot, killing a family dog and leaving a couple hospitalised.
Days earlier, the same gang orchestrated a series of coordinated petrol bomb attacks at houses in Drimnagh and Kildare.
A key target of the gang is a drug dealer aged in his 20s who was the victim of a violent assault on May 10.
The man was stabbed, slashed in the face and beaten with weapons on Victoria Quay in the south-inner city.
The man's partner was later warned that she would be burnt out of her apartment even though she has no involvement in the violence.
On May 25, a failed petrol bomb attack was carried out at this man's mother's home.
Just some 24 hours later the same woman was targeted after an apartment she'd moved to was shot up on the Long Mile Road.

Gardaí launch probe into ‘mindless, racist violence' after alleged attack in Dublin

The incident took place in at Parkhill Lawns in the Kilnamanagh area of Tallaght at around 6pm on Saturday evening. Gardaí are appealing to people not post or reshare social media content including footage related to the incident. The assault on the Indian man by a group on Saturday has been condemned as 'mindless, racist violence'. The man is believed to have only entered the country a number of weeks ago. The man was taken to Tallaght University Hospital for treatment after the attack on Saturday evening. Fine Gael councillor, Baby Pereppadan for Tallaght South, met with the man on Monday and said he is in 'shock'. He told the Irish Independent: "He couldn't speak much because of the shock he was in, he only arrived in Ireland three weeks ago. He is not taking any visitors at the moment. "I am calling for more Garda presence in the area. Small incidents like these are happening frequently in Tallaght. "People need to understand that many Indian people moving to Ireland are here on work permits, to study and work in the healthcare sector or in IT and so on, providing critical skills.' Sinn Féin TD for Dublin South-West, Seán Crowe, has said that violent and racist attack on Parkhill Road in Tallaght on Saturday must be the last. 'The attack on Parkhill Road, Tallaght on Saturday was vile and utterly unacceptable on so many levels. 'Anyone who thinks this sort of mindless, racist violence makes their community safer is lying and fooling no one. Some residents are increasingly nervous to leave their homes due to this type of behaviour, regardless of whether they are new arrivals to our community or have lived here all their lives. 'I condemn this attack entirely and call on anyone with any information relating to this incident to reach out to the garda authorities. This is not the first such attack in our area, but it has to be the last,' he added. In a statement Gardaí said: "Gardaí in Tallaght were alerted to an incident at Parkhill Road, Tallaght, Dublin 24 on the evening of Saturday 19th July, 2025 at approximately 6pm. 'Gardaí attended the scene and a male, aged in his 40s was taken to Tallaght University Hospital with injuries.'

DJ Carey's name rings out over Croke Park – but former hurler is conspicuous by his absence

Carey was man-of-the-match in his side's All-Ireland final win over Offaly in 2000 having given yet another scintillating scoring display, but he has been in the news for all the wrong reasons in recent weeks and months. Carey pleaded guilty on July 3 to ten counts of defrauding a number of people out of money while pretending that he had cancer and needed finances to obtain treatment. There was some debate whether the five-time All-Ireland SHC winner would be in attendance at Croke Park today. The GAA had been silent on the matter despite queries from the Irish Independent during the past week. One businessman who was defrauded out of thousands of euro warned it would be '100pc wrong' to honour the disgraced hurler in Croke Park. Noel Tynan, owned of The Celt bar in Dublin, said: 'He's a criminal… full stop and just because he won five All Irelands and nine All Stars, it doesn't change things. "The bottom line is he purposely set out to defraud people.' Mr Tynan added: 'He came across as such a humble fella but he was setting me up. It was a form of grooming. "The All Star, The All Ireland winner and then to use that and say you had cancer, it's just unforgiveable and there's no excuse for him.' Carey was remanded on bail following his court appearance earliker this month. He is due to be sentenced on October 29. Ultimately 54-year-old Carey was not present at Croke Park today, although there was a short citation read out about him while his team-mates were celebrated in front of a large crowd at GAA HQ. There was some jeering when his name was read out by master of ceremonies, TG4 commentator Mac Dara Mac Donncha. Carey was not the only one absent with All-Ireland-winning manager Brian Cody also missing out due to a pre-planned holiday. Goalkeeper James McGarry, Cody's right-hand man as coach for several of his All-Ireland successes following retirement, was also absent. However captain Willie O'Connor and Irish Independent columnist Eddie Brennan were among the star-studded squad on show.
