‘Even Ratan Tata was not married,' says Nithya Menen as she opens up on not wanting to go by the societal norms, opens up on heartbreaks: ‘It's not a central theme of my life'
who is gearing up for the release of her movie 'Thalaivan Thalaivii' with
Vijay Sethupathi
is known for her long list of work in various languages. Nithya has done movies in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam.
The actress also won a National Award recently for her film Thiruchitrambalam.
In a recent interview, Nithya has opened up on not going by the norms of the society when it comes to marriage and finding a soulmate. She said that while it happens, it's okay but it's no longer the central theme of her life. She also spoke about the fact that it's not as important to get married as the society projects it to be.
She shared, 'The idea of love evolved for me through the years; it's not a central theme of my life. When I was younger, it was so important to me to find my soulmate. Family, parents and society make you feel like it's inevitable. I've understood now that you can live a different life. Otherwise, you feel like a failure. It's impossible for everybody to find love and get married.
Ratan Tata
was not married. If it happens, great. If it doesn't happen, also great. It doesn't give me grief'
Thus, reflecting on the idea of marriage, Nithya shared that while elders often advocate it for practical reasons, she doesn't believe it deserves any moral pedestal.
She added that she's always been naturally solitary — the thought of being alone never unsettled her; in fact, she's always found comfort in her own company. Thus, she emphasised on the fact that one can have a fulfilling life, outside of romantic relationships as well.
Nithya also spoke about heartbreaks in this interview. She opened up on it and said, 'I am so happy that life is an open path now. Every set notion has broken for me, freeing me up to live life. Everything is great and wonderful only when it's for a good reason. I've been heartbroken every single time. It's obviously why I am not with someone right now. All of that only teaches you about people's intentions. You realise what you're searching itself is wrong, you have to leave it.
'
'Thalaivan Thalaivii' is set to release in theatres on July 25. The film chronicles the highs and lows of a marriage beginning with love but spiraling into chaos.

This Kerala woman weaves her dreams into fashion
From the heart of Edappal, a town in Malappuram district of Kerala, a dream has blossomed into a reality as Aswathy Balakrishnan etches her name in the world of bridal fashion designing. With a vision to weave magic on fabric, Aswathy embarked on her journey in 2023 by setting up a studio, Avaanah, in a rented room with an investment of ₹6 lakh she secured through a loan. From a modest start with just two assistants, her designs quickly captured the hearts of hundreds of brides. Today, Avaanah is synonymous with exquisite bridal wear. Her bridal dresses are sought after in countries like Australia, the U.K., the U.S.A, the UAE and Ireland. With materials sourced from northern India, Aswathy's designer creations like lehengas, gowns and sarees are priced between ₹10,000 and ₹50,000. Her traditional Christian bridal dresses are particularly popular abroad. As Aswathy looks back on her journey, she beams with pride. She has not only built a successful brand, but also created opportunities for many and inspired others to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams. Her confidence received a major boost from early clients like playback singers Sithara Krishnakumar, Mridula Warrier, Rimi Tomy, actors Sneha Sreekumar, Shruthi Rajanikanth and Veena Nandakumar. Hailing from Thaikkattussery near Thrissur, Aswathy's journey into fashion designing was fuelled by her innate passion for art. She pursued a diploma in fashion designing and nurtured her creative talent beyond her Zoology and Malayalam academic background. However, it was only after her marriage and relocation to Edappal that she discovered her niche in bridal designing, marking the beginning of her journey with Avaanah. She praised the Taluk Industries Centre and the Kudumbashree for their supportive roles. 'They provided consistent encouragement, clear guidance and helped in easy facilitation of loans,' she says. Aswathy's experience serves as a beacon of hope for aspiring entrepreneurs who often face bureaucratic hurdles. She debunks the myth that government aid is only limited to joint or small ventures. The District Industries Centre, she says, provides valuable guidance to start-up aspirants. 'Women should seize this opportunity,' she advises aspiring female entrepreneurs. Her inspiring story was recently shared at an interaction with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan during the State government's fourth anniversary celebrations at Malappuram.

Karan Johar regrets making Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor's OK Jaanu. Here's why
Filmmaker Karan Johar has admitted that he looks back at making OK Jaanu, the Hindi remake of Mani Ratnam's OK Kanmani, starring Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor, with a tinge of regret. He shared that he sensed that it was not the right move. Karan Johar's OK Jaanu was released in 2017. Karan Johar looks back Karan spoke on the Jay Shetty podcast about the film OK Jaanu, which featured Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur. He discussed the power of intuition and reflected on Aditya Chopra's belief in him. The filmmaker mentioned that his instincts have remained a guiding force throughout his journey. In fact, Karan acknowledged that he hasn't always listened to his intuition. At that moment, Karan looked back at the making of OK Jaanu and shared that he didn't listen to his instincts. He said, 'At that time, Aditya and Shraddha just had a hit, Aashiqui 2. They already agreed to do the film, and the film came to me as a project. Ready. With a great remake. Shaad Ali–a great director. Wonderful actors. And yet, in my heart, I actually felt that, 'Should this film be remade?' because it is so much in the moment. Can the moment be recaptured?'' Talking about the film's performance, Karan shared, 'It wasn't anyone's fault. Everyone did their job well. But deep down, I knew it wasn't the right move–and I didn't act on it. Even today, I sometimes don't listen to my instincts. And when I don't, I go wrong. It's a mistake I keep making.' About OK Jaanu The film, starring Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapoor, was released in 2017. The Shaad Ali-directed remake was a remake of the Tamil romantic drama O Kandhal Kanmani (2015), which was directed by Mani Ratnam. It focused on contemporary romance and the relationship between the lead pair in a live-in relationship. AR Rahman composed the music, with Humma Humma, a reimagined version of the song from the Mani Ratnam classic Bombay, and Enna Sona emerging as chartbusters. Despite high expectations, the film failed to elicit the expected response. It is slated to release on August 1. It is produced by Dharma Productions alongside Zee Studios and Cloud 9 Pictures. It is directed by Shazia Iqbal.
