Diamondbacks activate outfielder Corbin Carroll from injured list
PHOENIX (AP) — The Arizona Diamondbacks activated outfielder Corbin Carroll from the 10-day injured list before Saturday's game against the Kansas City Royals.
Carroll, sidelined since June 18 with a chip fracture in his left wrist, returned to his customary leadoff spot and was starting in right field against the Royals. He was injured when he was hit by a pitch thrown by Toronto's Justin Bruhl.

Carroll said before Saturday's game that his wrist felt better the last couple of days and he played in a minor league game on Friday in the Arizona Complex League to test it out.
The 2023 National League Rookie of the Year has 20 home runs, a major league leading nine triples and a .255 batting average this season. To make room for Carroll on the roster, the Diamondbacks optioned utilityman Tim Tawa to Triple-A Reno.

Dortmund coach Niko Kovač says MetLife Stadium field more suited to golf than to soccer
Associated Press EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — In the eyes of Borussia Dortmund coach Niko Kovač, the MetLife Stadium field was better suited for a round of golf than a match at the Club World Cup. And the New York area's summer heat also was inappropriate for high-level soccer. 'It's more a golf green, so you can putt here," Kovač said after a 3-2 quarterfinal loss to Real Madrid on Saturday. 'It's very short. But this is not the grass we are used to playing on in the Bundesliga and also in the other two stadiums.' Dortmund played its opening group match at MetLife, the site of the Club World Cup semifinals and championship, and of next year's World Cup final. The German team played two matches at Cincinnati's TQL Stadium and its round of 16 game at Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium. 'As you saw, the watering wasn't good enough, I would say, because you don't have the devices for that." Kovač said. 'When it's too dry, it's unbelievable. It's sticking.' Mize, Torkelson lead Tigers to 1-0 win over Guardians
CLEVELAND (AP) — Casey Mize threw seven innings of four-hit ball, Spencer Torkelson homered and the Detroit Tigers dealt the Cleveland Guardians their ninth straight loss, 1-0 on Saturday night. It is the fifth time during the Guardians' skid they have not scored a run. It was the 11th time this season they have been shut out, tied with Pittsburgh for most in the majors. It is the third time Mize (9-2) has gone seven innings in 15 starts this season. The right-hander walked two and struck out four as he won for the third time in his last four starts.
