Gallery: Highland Pride draws crowds to the heart of Inverness
Highland Pride took place on Saturday June 7, and was a vibrant celebration of diversity, inclusion and the LGBTQ+ community across the Highlands.
Hundreds joined the colourful parade through Inverness city centre, marching from Falcon Square to Eden Court with banners, music, and loads of energy. The Pride Paddlers passed under the bridge just as the parade crossed over it, and a flashmob-style dance outside Eden Court closed the parade on a high.
At Eden Court, people could explore a fire engine with local firefighters, take part in sports demos including badminton, disc golf, football and paddling, and chat to groups like Nature Days and the Samaritans.
Later in the day, the celebration continued inside the Empire Theatre from 2.30pm, with speeches from Emma Roddick MSP, Cllr Sarah Fanet, and Lady Carbisdale, each highlighting different aspects of LGBTQ+ activism. There were also brilliant performances from Venus GuyTrap, Dashh, and Sugar Browne.

Safiyya Vorajee has spoken to Married At First sight star, Paul C Brunson, about a past abusive relationship in which she claims she was physically assaulted and manipulated Safiyya Vorajee has bravely spoken out about a toxic ex - who she met before Ashley Cain - on Paul C Brunson's We Need to Talk podcast. Safiyya, 37, who tragically lost the daughter she shared with Ashely - Azaylia - to leukaemia when she was eight months old in 2021, said she was initially "love bombed" by her ex, who she stayed with for four years, until things took a very serious turn. Telling Paul she 'really wanted to be in a relationship' before her ex began 'constantly criticising her', Safiyya said: "I'm like: 'Oh my god like, yes, I found this guy.' But then he started chipping away at me mentally without me even noticing. I just thought everything I was doing was wrong." Holding back tears, the dental nurse then shockingly claimed that her ex "whacked" her in the face after a disagreement in the car. Safiyya continued: "We were driving in the car, obviously I can't remember what the conversation was about or disagreement was about, but then he just whacked me straight in the face and then I stopped the car he opened the car and pushed me out the car jumped into the driver's seat and then I was just left and he drove off with my car." Despite Safiyya's mum "begging" her not to go back to her ex after she found out about the violent incident, Safiyya admitted she returned and stayed with the man for four years. Explaining that he told her how sorry he was and that he loved her, Safiyya said it wasn't until she was approached by another woman, who told her that she too was seeing the man, that she found the strength to leave. She shared: "I didn't go mad at her. I didn't do anything. I said to her: "Will you do me one favour? I've been in the worst place of my life for the last four years please can you come with me to my house and say this in front of him because no matter what you send to me what you give me he will manipulate me and tell me it's me going crazy." After pretending not to recognise the woman, Safiyya's ex "smashed all the kitchen cupboards" Safiyya said after she left the house, with the woman, who she "took safely back to her car." However, Safiyya returned to the house as she continued: "As soon as that door opened I literally thought he was coming to come and attack me in fact he was the opposite he'd sat there and told me it was because I work too much and he didn't have anybody to spend time with and I was like 'Wow wow', I am not buying this anymore." Safiyya ended up calling the Samaritans where she said she talked to a volunteer for two hours before finally leaving the home she shared with her ex, getting an injunction against him and giving a statement to the police for her "protection". When asked why she thought she stayed in the relationship for so long, the candid star heartbreakingly concluded: "I thought control meant love and the crazy thing about it is, I just can't believe that's what I thought love was."

The emotion of a Kenilworth Custard Corner marathon runner
Custard Corner is not for the street's yellow colour, hence its name, only the brave need apply - at least when running enough laps of it to cover the equivalent distance of a marathon. And in a heatwave no rather than "exhausted", what Ian Beasley had to say of Saturday's feat - on a jaundiced section of Station Road in Kenilworth - was "awesome" and "emotional".He was running in memory of his best friend and best man, known as Noggins, who took his own life in February 2024. Mr Beasley notched up roughly 600 laps of Custard Corner during the event he organised, raising money for the Samaritans charity as he said members of the public turned out to support him and fellow runners, with the marathon taking place against a backdrop of "Mexican waves, people singing along to buskers [and] bells ringing".He told BBC CWR that his Custard Corner challenge, which saw him run 26.2 miles, had raised more than £12,600 for the cause so far, and he would like to organise another one next year. Mr Beasley, an optometrist who lives in Kenilworth, has previously described Noggins as "a one-off" who was "adored by everyone".For the final 0.2 miles, Mr Beasley arranged for the group of participants to run in silence while he carried a photo of his friend. Noggins' favourite song, Find the River by REM, was played."I was in tears during that 0.2 of a mile," Mr Beasley said."That was really emotional." Mr Beasley said he was delighted that the marathon had raised thousands of pounds for charity, but his personal highlight of the day was seeing men open up about their mental health had three conversations at the event with men who spoke about the issues they faced, he added."I don't think that would have happened had we not created the environment [for it]," he said. Gary Barlow halts concert midway through song as he spots concert-goer's stunt
Gary Barlow brought his jam-packed Scarborough show to a sudden halt after spotting something in the crowd as he began to sing a classic Take That song Gary Barlow stunned fans by dramatically halting a jam-packed concert in Scarborough. As the audience swayed and sang to his catalogue of huge hits, the Take That man abruptly paused after spotting something in the audience. Gary, 54, had been sitting at the piano and just started a rendition of A Million Love Songs when he told his band to stop. Waving his finger in the air, Gary said: "Hang on, stop, stop stop. Stop everyone." As he gazed down to the crowd he asked: "What's going on down here at the front? Is that what we think it is?" Spotting a man in the crowd holding up a ring, cameras panned onto the audience member, with screams of delight soon following. Gary went on: "There we go. He's got the ring there everyone." Gary's concert-goer, Chris Calpin from York, looked delighted to have caught the singer's attention and continued to ask partner Kirsty Peake if she will be his wife. "Wow," Gary exclaimed as he clapped his microphone before a stunned Kirsty wiped away a tear. "Oh my goodness," the star gasped. "It take it it's a yes, right? It's a yes. It's a yes," he gleefully revealed to the rest of the concert goers who roundly clapped the couple. However, Gary then joked: "Now listen. It's all about timing. I'd started the bloody song." He then told the duo to make a space for themselves and have a dance, telling them "this number is dedicated to you both". As he wished them a happy future and thanked them for attending, he got the hit tune back under way as the audience sang along while the happy couple embraced. The magical moment comes as Gary was continuing his UK tour at Scarborough's Open Air theatre. Will Smith is also due to wow the crowds at the venue later in the summer. Earlier in the year Gary also won the hearts of his crowd as he celebrated the momentous occasion as Liverpool FC won the Premier League. On the day the title was sealed, Gary kicked off the English leg of his Songbook Tour with a bang in Liverpool. The Cheshire-born singer took to the city's Empire Theatre on to perform hits from his three-decade long career, and couldn't help but celebrate the sporting win from his boyhood club. He was greeted by red and white confetti falling onto the crowd as he beamed and proudly displayed the scarf to the crowd. The joyous occasion came despite the star earlier promising not to talk sports during the show. 'We book these tours 15 months in advance or something so there's no way we could have known something like this could happen. But when we played Nafield in 2019, Liverpool had just won the Champions League. So it seems like every time I book a gig in Liverpool, we do really well!" Gary said before the gig.
