lauded Indians tourists who cancelled their trips to countries which supported the enemy nation during the recent escalation of tensions, and suggested that they should explore India for tourism instead.
Talking to ET over these cancellations, Shekhawat said, "I salute those people who have cancelled their travel plans to such countries (Turkey and
Azerbaijan
) which stood firmly with our enemies during these tough times. I salute their sense of patriotism."
In a poetic way, the minister suggested to all these tourists to explore India, saying: "Hamare desh mein dekhane ko hai bohot kuch vishesh toh kyun jayein videsh (there are many special places in our country, then why go abroad). Stay here and see India."

Army's Central Command flags off 2000km Himalayan motorcycle expedition to celebrate Op Sindoor
Dehradun: The Indian Army 's Central Command on Friday flagged off a 25-member motorcycle expedition, covering a distance of around 2000 km, to remote areas of the Himalayas in Uttarakhand. The rally celebrates the success of Operation Sindoor and aims to share stories of Kargil heroes with students and youths to motivate and encourage them to join the armed forces. Central Command's General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C), Lt Gen Anindya Sengupta launched the second edition of the 13-day expedition, named Integrated Himalayan Motorcycle Expedition-II (I-HiMEx-II), from Dehradun in the presence of senior Army officers, secretary of Uttarakhand tourism department, and officials from Indian Oil Corporation Ltd and Royal Enfield. Public relations officer (Defence), Dehradun, Lt Col Manish Srivastava said the expedition will cover several Himalayan areas – including Gauchar, Joshimath, Rattana Kona, Mana, Niti Pass, Rimkhim, Kurktui, and Thagla – and conclude in Roorkee. "The expedition endeavours to pay tributes to our fallen heroes while showcasing the uncharted beauty of the Himalayas. It aims to honour the Kargil war heroes, celebrate the success of Operation Sindoor, and inspire local youth to join the Indian armed forces. Indian Footfall In Turkey Dips Sharply In 2025 - What The Numbers Reveal
Turkey, a long-time favourite among Indian travellers, has witnessed a significant decline in tourist arrivals from India this year. The latest data from Turkey's Ministry of Culture and Tourism reveals a sharp drop in Indian visitor numbers in June 2025. This downturn appears to reflect recent shifts in public sentiment and travel choices, even as the country remains a popular destination for global tourists. According to official data, only 24,250 Indian tourists visited Turkey in June 2025, a 36% drop compared to 38,307 visitors in June 2024. This decline follows a similar downward trend observed in May 2025. Data for this month shows that arrivals were down 24% year-on-year, with 31,659 Indians travelling to Turkey in May. The broader picture for the first half of 2025 (January to June) also shows a decline. A total of 139,215 Indian tourists visited during this period. This is a 15% reduction from 164,373 in the same time period last year. Indian travellers still make up only a small portion of Turkey 's overall tourist base (they account for around 0.6% of all international arrivals). The country had seen growing interest from India in previous years, especially after the launch of direct flight connections. The sudden reversal in travel numbers indicates a marked shift in preference. In April-May 2025, the events of the Pahalgam terror attack and the India-Pakistan conflict impacted Indians' travel decisions in several ways, which included calls to boycott Turkey as a tourist destination. Popular travel portals like MakeMyTrip, EaseMyTrip and Cleartrip voiced their support for this decision. Some of them later also reported notable drops in Turkey bookings on their respective sites.
