Jakob Ingebrigtsen's father convicted of assaulting daughter and acquitted of other abuse charges

CNN16-06-2025

Gjert Ingebrigtsen, the father of Norwegian track star Jakob Ingebrigtsen, was convicted Monday of assaulting his daughter and handed a suspended prison sentence.
A court acquitted Gjert of other charges including abusing Jakob, a multiple Olympic and world middle-distance champion.
In a trial that started in March and has gripped Norway, Gjert, 59, was accused of an alleged years-long campaign of domestic abuse toward Jakob and younger sister, Ingrid.
A verdict in the case was delivered in writing by Soer Rogaland District Court and Gjert was convicted of a single incident of assault against his daughter, his legal team confirmed to The Associated Press.
He was given a 15-day suspended sentence and ordered to pay NOK 10,000 ($1,010) in compensation.
John Christian Elden and Heidi Reisvang, defense attorneys from Elden Law Firm, said it was the court's conclusion that there 'was no evidence to show that Gjert Ingebrigtsen created a continuous fear in his children.'
'There are no winners in this case,' Reisvang, who was assisting counsel during the trial, told the AP. 'He (Gjert) hopes that one day he will have contact and a relationship with his family again.'
Gjert became a prominent media figure in Norway in 2016 following his involvement in the TV documentary series Team Ingebrigtsen, in which he was seen coaching his three track-and-field sons, Jakob, Filip and Henrik.
The series ran until 2021. By 2022 the trio had parted ways with their coach-father and the following year co-signed a column in the national newspaper, VG, accusing Gjert of physical violence and intimidation.
The police opened an investigation, with court proceedings eventually brought relating to Gjert's treatment of Jakob and Ingrid.
Gjert continued coaching after the split with his sons and now guides Jakob's 1500 meter Norwegian rival Narve Gilje Nordås.

Centres Koblar and Hopkins are first two Leaf picks at NHL draft

The Maple Leafs waited a long time for their first pick at the NHL draft, then went a long way to find him. Welcome to Toronto Tinus Luc Koblar, a wispy 6-foot-3 centre of Norwegian-Slovenian descent, who played for Leksands juniors in the Swedish league. He was ranked 56th among international skaters by Central Scouting and had eight goals and 21 points in 43 games last season. The Leafs picked 56th overall on Saturday at the end of the second round, having traded their first-rounder to Chicago and holding Florida's selection. They last went for a Norwegian-born player in 2010, Sondre Olden, another tall kid, who also played in Sweden and though he came to camp in North America, he never made the NHL. In the third round, 86th overall, Toronto looked closer to home with Tyler Hopkins, a 6-foot-1 centre with the Kingston Frontenacs. The Campbellville native amassed 51 points in 67 games with five assists in 11 playoff appearances. Koblar had not warranted a lot of ice time this year in Leksands, in part because of his age (17). He's the second Leksands player Toronto has taken in as many years after Victor Johansson at 120th last season behind first rounder Ben Danford. Koblar has seen a lot of action for the Norwegian junior team in international competition. The Leafs last went for a Norwegian born player in 2010, forward Sondre Olden, another tall kid, who also played in Sweden and though he came to camp in North America, he never made the NHL. Koblar was not at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles when league deputy commissioner Bill Daly read his name, though he spoke to the Leaf management team back in expected he'll attend the Leafs development camp next week in Toronto. 2025 NHL Draft: Maple Leafs Use 64th Pick to Select Norwegian Tinus Luc Koblar

After a bit of a wait, the Toronto Maple Leafs selected Norwegian forward Tinus Luc Koblar with the 64th overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft. The 6-foot-3 center currently plays for Leksands in the Swedish under-20 league. While not a major point producer—with just eight goals and 13 assists in 45 games last season—Koblar is known for his playmaking and puck distribution. His skating is an area the Leafs will need to develop, but he is projected as a potential middle-six forward. Combined with his size, his strong net-front presence suggests he could blossom into a valuable contributor. He also brings strong defensive skills that should translate well to the NHL level as the Leafs work on other areas of his game. Having played for Norway's national junior teams, he is experienced in all situations. The Leafs were surely impressed by his recent playoff performance, where Koblar excelled for Leksands by scoring four goals in seven games. According to head scout Mark Leach, the organization looks for players who have a history of excelling in key moments. Certainly, Toronto sees that upside in the young forward. More to come... Norwegian royal charged with rape; police say victim count in double digits

The eldest son of Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit and stepson of the heir to the throne, Crown Prince Haakon, Marius Borg Høiby is facing charges of multiple counts of rape, sexual assault and bodily harm. The charges come after a month-long investigation following Høiby's multiple arrests in 2024. Oslo Police Attorney Andreas Kruszewski confirmed that the number of victims is in the "double-digits." Kruszewski said the charges include one case of rape with intercourse, two cases of rape without intercourse, four cases of sexual assault and two cases of bodily harm, the Associated Press reported. Kruszewski also reportedly said that 28-year-old Høiby was cooperative during police questioning. The Oslo Police District put out a statement saying that they carried out a "thorough investigation", with a "large number of witness interviews, several searches and a review of extensive digital material," according to a BBC translation. Fox News Digital has reached out to Høiby's attorney, Petar Sekulic, for comment, but according to multiple reports he said that his client does not acknowledge any wrongdoing, particularly in the cases involving sexual abuse and violence. Several outlets also reported that the Royal House of Norway said that the case was proceeding through the legal system and it had nothing to offer, though the palace has not yet replied to Fox News Digital.
