Times of Omana day ago
California: Google CEO Sundar Pichai said on Tuesday that the company has started to roll out its 'AI Mode' in Search for users in India after what he called an "incredible response" to the feature in the labs.
In a post on X, Pichai stated, "After an incredible response in Labs, we're starting to roll out AI Mode in Search to everyone in India (English to start). It's a total reimagining of Search, and we're excited for even more people to use it."
According to the blog posted on July 8 by Hema Budaraju, Vice President, 'Product Management, Search,' the feature will make it easier for users to ask anything to Google and explore topics more deeply on the web. She recalled how the company first introduced AI Mode in India as an experiment in labs in June.
She stated, "Today, we're excited to begin rolling out AI Mode to everyone in India, making it easier than ever to ask Google anything you're curious about, get a helpful AI-powered response, and explore topics more deeply on the web."
"In June, we first introduced AI Mode, our most powerful AI search, in India as an experiment in Labs. The response has been encouraging, with people appreciating its speed and the quality of the responses. We've seen users putting it to work in diverse ways--from diving deep into topics for learning to understanding complex how-tos," she added.
She announced that Google has now started to roll out the AI Mode experience in Google Search with no labs sign-up required. She stated that users in India over the coming days will see a new tab for AI Mode appear in Search and in the Search bar in the Google app.
Hema Budaraju said, "We're now starting to roll out the AI Mode experience in Google Search, with no Labs sign-up required. Over the coming days, you'll see a new tab for AI Mode appear in Search and in the search bar in the Google app, available in English.
"All the features from the Labs launch will be available: so you can type, use your voice, or even snap a photo with Lens to get a rich, comprehensive response with helpful links, and dig deeper with follow-up questions. We are excited to see how this end-to-end AI search experience helps you explore your curiosity and understand the world around you," she added.

Indian trade delegation to visit Washington as India-US trade talks enter final stage: Govt sources

New Delhi: India and the United States have stepped up their trade talks, with both sides actively engaging in virtual discussions. The government sources told ANI that an Indian trade delegation will revisit Washington DC soon for in-person negotiations aimed at finalising a trade deal. Sources familiar with the matter also said that besides in person meetings, Indian officials have also been engaged in several virtual meetings with their US counterparts in recent weeks. These meetings have helped set the stage for more detailed and comprehensive face-to-face talks. The upcoming visit by the Indian delegation is seen as a major step forward in advancing discussions on a possible trade agreement. The talks are focusing on both a broad-based trade agreement as well as targeted trade arrangements that could help resolve key issues between the two countries. The ongoing dialogue reflects a serious effort by both sides to deepen trade ties and reduce friction on trade-related matters. The discussions gained momentum after US President Donald Trump, who returned to office earlier this year, announced a tariff policy targeting countries with trade surpluses against the United States. India was among the countries likely to be affected by the proposed tariffs on exports to the US. However, the tariff implementation, initially planned for April, was paused for 90 days and later extended until August 1. This extension has provided both countries extra time to negotiate and try to reach on a mutually beneficial agreement. Officials said that the current round of discussions is critical, and the Indian delegation's visit could play a key role in finalising the deal before the extended deadline. Meanwhile the Donald Trump continues with his tariff policy as a tool to pressurize countries as on Wednesday, he announced a new list of tariffs targeting 14 countries. Products from Algeria, Libya, Iraq, and Sri Lanka will face a 30 per cent tariff, while Brunei and Moldova will see a 25 per cent tariff. Goods from the Philippines will attract a 20 per cent tariff. Brazil has been hit the hardest, with a steep 50 per cent punitive tariff, especially on copper. On July 8, Trump shared letters sent to Japan's Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and South Korea's President Lee Jae-myung, stating that both countries would face a 25 per cent tariff from August 1. He later confirmed that similar letters had been sent to Malaysia and Kazakhstan, which will also face 25 per cent tariffs. According to the letters, Myanmar and Laos will face a 40 per cent tariff, while Indonesia will be subject to a 32 per cent tariff. Imports from Thailand and Cambodia will be taxed at 36 per cent, and from Bangladesh and Serbia at 35 per cent. South Africa and Bosnia and Herzegovina will see 30 per cent tariffs, and Tunisia will face a 25 per cent rate.

Starlink gets necessary clearance from India's space regulator

New Delhi: Elon Musk-owned satellite communication firm Starlink has received clearance from the Indian space regulator, the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe), sources said on Wednesday. In early June, Starlink was provided with license by the government to launch GMPCS (Global Mobile Personal Communication by Satellite) services, VSAT Services and ISP Category-A under unified license. Starlink is the third company to receive approval for satellite communication (satcom) services from the Department of Telecom, following OneWeb and Reliance Jio. Recently, Airtel and Jio have partnered with Starlink to bring the latter's high-speed satellite internet services to their customers in India. Starlink will utilise Airtel and Jio's extensive dealer network to sell and promote its services. Satellite telecom in India will help the country provide much-needed services in remote interior places where conventional telecom services tend to be costly.

India aims to increase hydrocarbons exploration acreage to 1 million sq km by 2030: Hardeep Puri

Vienna: India aims to increase its hydrocarbons exploration acreage to 0.5 million sq km by 2025 and 1.0 million sq km by 2030, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Puri said. With 2.5 lakh sq km open for exploration under OALP Round-10, and being close to discovering a Guyana-scale oilfield in the Andaman Sea, India is in the midst of one of the most ambitious plans to enhance the efforts to drill for more and further enhance hydrocarbons exploration in the country, said the Minister at 9th OPEC International Seminar in Vienna. India is making significant efforts to increase its traditional fossil-based energy production, and the latest push is to explore the Andaman region. India plans to explore and drill for hydrocarbons with renewed momentum by exploring 2.5 lakh sq km under OALP-Round 10. The minister interacted on 'Oil Markets: Energy Security, Growth and Prosperity' with an audience of leaders, captains and professionals of global energy sector at the Seminar. This ambition to double exploration acreage, according to the Minister, is supported by a series of policy reforms including shifting from a Production Sharing Contract regime to a Revenue Sharing Model under HELP, and amendments to ORD Act 1948 to provide a robust framework for managing leases, improving safety, enabling dispute resolution, and supporting the integration of renewable energy sources in hydrocarbon projects. In addition, the government is reducing 'No-Go' areas by 99 per cent, and in the process freeing up over 1 million sqkm for exploration and production (E&P), and significant investments in basin data acquisition through national projects such as the National Seismic Program (NSP), Andaman Offshore Project, Mission Anveshan, and the Extended Continental Shelf Survey. India is the world's third-largest energy consumer with a demand of about 5.4 million barrels of oil per day. "India's energy strategy is rooted in pragmatism, resilience, and fairness. India is both a structural growth engine and a long-term stabilizer of global oil markets," the minister said. At the Seminar, the minister said India will contribute 25 per cent of the incremental global energy demand growth in future. "We are navigating today's volatile global energy landscape through a multi-dimensional approach that includes diversifying our crude import sources from 27 to 40 countries now, enhancing domestic production, developing alternative fuel sources, transition towards gas based economy and aiming to become a global refining hub by increasing our refining capacity to 310 MMTPA by 2028 and augmenting petrochemical capacity to be a USD 300 billion industry by 2030," the minister said. Even as the world was dealing with geopolitical difficulties, Puri said India successfully navigated the trilemma of energy availability, affordability, and sustainability; and was the only major economy in the world to reduce fuel prices even as oil prices skyrocketed globally. He apprised the Seminar that India aims to achieve energy independence by 2047 and reach Net Zero emissions by 2070. He also highlighted India's green energy transition, referring to biofuels. India launched the Global Biofuels Alliance which has over 29 countries and 14 international organisations, working together to scale up sustainable biofuels. Domestically, India is accelerating the use of ethanol, CBG, biodiesel and SAF as part of its decarbonization roadmap, the minister added. India today imports 80 per cent of its oil and 50 per cent of its natural gas needs. India is now importing oil and gas from as many countries as possible to meet its demand.
