His decision to stay away comes in the wake of the Supreme Court's directive to form a Special Investigation Team to probe the matter. In compliance, the Director General of Police has formed a team of senior IPS officers: Pramod Verma, Inspector General (IGP) of Sagar; Kalyana Chakravarthy, Deputy Inspector General of the Special Armed Forces (SAF); and Vahini Singh, Superintendent of Police (SP) in Dindori.
The historic Rajwada Palace in Indore became the focal point of political and cultural significance on Tuesday as the Madhya Pradesh cabinet convened a special meeting to commemorate the 300th birth anniversary of Ahilyabai Holkar -- the revered ruler of Indore.
The meeting organised in the Ganesh Hall of Rajwada aimed to honour her legacy and discuss key developmental initiatives for the state.
One of the key agenda items for the cabinet meeting was the presentation of the 'MP Metropolitan Planning and Development Act 2025.' Additionally, a budget of Rs 2,200 crore was earmarked for the construction of Advaita Lok, an Adi Shankar Museum in Omkareshwar.
The state's Vision Document 2047 was also set for discussion, divided into eight thematic groups.
The significance of Rajwada as a venue for ministerial deliberations dates back to 1945, when Yashwant Rao III presided over the last Council of Ministers meeting at this historic site.
In a parallel effort to preserve Indore's architectural heritage, Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav led the Bhoomi Pujan ceremony for the restoration of gardens at both Lalbagh Palace and Rajwada Palace. The Indore Municipal Corporation has allocated Rs 20 lakh for the beautification of these spaces.
Rajwada, a structure with a legacy spanning over two centuries, has witnessed the ebb and flow of history. It suffered damage during the 1984 riots, necessitating extensive restoration efforts decades later.
More recently, under the Smart City Project, the palace underwent a major refurbishment for Rs 20 crore, restoring its grandeur.
Ahilyabai Holkar, born into a distinguished Marathi Hindu family, was the daughter of Mankoji and Sushila Shinde from Chandi village, now part of Ahmednagar district in Maharashtra. Her father, a member of the Dhangar community, ensured she was raised in an environment steeped in tradition and virtue. Her rise to prominence was shaped by her association with Malhar Rao Holkar, a formidable commander in the army of Maratha Peshwa Baji Rao I and the ruler of Malwa. She later established Maheshwar in Madhya Pradesh as the seat of the Holkar dynasty, leaving behind a legacy of governance and architectural marvels.

The 1990-batch officer of Rajasthan cadre assumed charge in the evening and was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour at the police headquarters here. Sharma's appointment follows his premature repatriation from central deputation, where he served as the Director General of Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD) in New Delhi. His return fills the leadership void created after former DGP UR Sahoo was appointed Rajasthan Public Service Commission chairperson on June 10 and the brief interim charge of the state police force held by DG (ACB) Ravi Prakash Meharda, who retired on June 30. In a formal order, the Department of Personnel announced that Sharma will serve as the head of state police for a period of two years, irrespective of his age of superannuation or until further orders, whichever is earlier. He has also been placed in the apex pay scale (Level 17) with a fixed monthly salary of Rs 2.25 lakh. He previously served as DG ACB, Director of Rajasthan Police Academy and DG State Disaster Relief Force. His experience at the field level includes postings as SP in Jodhpur, Jhalawar, Dausa, Rajsamand, Bharatpur and Jaipur North. He also served CBI at Jaipur and Delhi and handled Jaipur's traffic division. Originally from Mathura, Sharma holds MA and MPhil degrees. His first posting was in 1992 as Assistant SP in Jodhpur City. He was promoted to DIG in 2006 and later served in Crime Branch at the police headquarters. For his distinguished service, he was awarded the Police Medal in 2006 and the President's Police Medal in 2014.

ED arguments over in Herald case, it's Gandhis' turn now
Sonia and Rahul Gandhi NEW DELHI: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) claimed before a Delhi court on Thursday that the National Herald case is a "classic case of money laundering". Young Indian Pvt Ltd, in which ex-Congress presidents Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi held a 76% stake, was allegedly created to launder Rs 2,000 crore from Associated Journals Ltd, the company that published 'National Herald' newspaper. "This is a classic case where the offence of money laundering is made against all the accused," submitted additional solicitor general SV Raju, appearing for the ED before the court of special judge Vishal Gogne. He asked the court to take cognisance of the chargesheet. The court was hearing arguments on the point of cognisance of the chargesheet filed against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the money laundering case. The agency concluded its arguments in the case on Thursday. Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi will make submissions before the court on Friday, appearing for Sonia Gandhi. The ED, through the ASG, submitted that Sonia and Rahul Gandhi were beneficial owners and in ultimate control of Young Indian, and that after the deaths of other shareholders they had 100% control. The purpose was to have Rs 2,000 crore," Raju told the court. Raju claimed Sonia and Rahul Gandhi were responsible for the conduct of business of Young Indian and the fraudulent takeover of properties valued at over Rs 2,000 crore of AJL was with their connivance and consent. The ASG alleged that the shareholding in the venture was just in name and that all the other accused were puppets of the Gandhi family. He added that Sonia and Rahul Gandhi control Congress and wanted to get hold of Rs 2,000 crore instead of the said Rs 92 crore. As per the ED, Congress provided an interest-free loan of Rs 90 crore to AJL, which had assets worth Rs 2,000 crore, for a consideration of just Rs 50 lakh. This debt was allegedly converted into equity in YI's favour. "They deprived AJL's shareholders of their right. YI invested just Rs 50 lakh and got Rs 2,000 crore. YI gained wrongfully and shareholders suffered," he said. The court asked Raju if the shareholders are also witnesses in this case. Calling the matter a little peculiar, the judge asked whether they should not also be made witnesses. "The ED has not investigated the 1,000 shareholders. So will this trial go on without them being witnesses," the court asked. The ASG replied, "The record speaks for itself. This is a classic case of money laundering. The real culprits are these seven persons (including Sonia and Rahul), once you pierce the veil. Today, Sonia and Rahul Gandhi hold almost all shares. They're the beneficial owners of the company."

BJP leader seeks govt assistance to rain-hit farmers

After submitting a memorandum to the additional deputy commissioner in Haveri on Thursday, he spoke to reporters about the agricultural communities across the district, including Haveri taluk, impacted by heavy rain. Farmers initiated the sowing of crops like maize, soybean, cotton, and groundnut during the pre-monsoon. The continuous rainfall and heavy showers during April, May, and June caused yellow disease and rot in the planted crops. "The crops were completely destryed in approximately 19 villages near Haveri taluk, including Handiganur, Kittur, Koradur, Melmuri, Halagi, Marol, Maradur, Negalur, Akkur, and others. Numerous farmers are currently incorporating their damaged crops back into the soil using tractors and bullocks," he shared. He highlighted that farmers invested more than Rs 10,000 per acre towards seeds, fertilisers, and labour expenses. Their agricultural investments proved unproductive, causing financial difficulties due to existing loans. The circumstances require swift govt action. Farmers need to begin fresh sowing during the monsoon, but lack financial resources. "The govt should conduct damage assessment and provide interim compensation of at least Rs 10,000 per acre. Additionally, authorities should facilitate the insurance claim process to ensure farmers receive their entitled compensation," Siddaraj demanded. The BJP leader pointed out additional concerns about farmers receiving poor quality seeds with low germination rates and a fertiliser shortage in the district. These problems need immediate resolution to prevent further farmer hardships. Haveri district presently has the highest farmer suicide rate in the state. "Govt intervention is essential to restore farmer confidence and prevent such tragic outcomes," he urged.
