Ryan Gosling Fan-Favorite Movie ‘The Nice Guys' Gets Long-Awaited Sequel Update

Yahoo21-06-2025
While Hollywood has leaned more heavily on movie remakes over recent years, fans seem to have an increased interest in another approach: sequels.
Fortunately, many are getting their wish, with a few popular older movies getting sequels or spinoffs of late, including the upcoming Happy Gilmore 2 as a prime example.
The latest film to address the idea of a potential sequel originally premiered in 2016, so the buzz hasn't been quite as loud lately, but it's apparent fans still want it. The Ryan Gosling, Russell Crowe detective mystery, The Nice Guys, earned rave reviews and director Shane Black addressed the possibility recently.
As /Film revealed, Black's comments came on Second Sight Films' new limited edition 4K release of The Nice Guys. His comments were also made after Gosling previously said it was unlikely a sequel would happen after The Angry Birds Movie hurt their release at the box office.
Black went on to detail how challenging a sequel to The Nice Guys may be due to all the parties involved, per /Film.
"I know the rights situation on The Nice Guys is a bit difficult. Joel [Silver] is a producer, Warner Bros. is the distributor, there's an overseas company that Ken Kao is a producer on," Black explained. "So to carve it out and make sure — in other words, can you make the sequel? Yes. Will it be financially feasible once you pay off everyone involved, including the actors getting their bump?"
"That's the problem—is you're gonna present something that the actors have to agree to, that's a good script, and that is going to be very expensive and the studio's going to say, 'Well, didn't the last one sort of bomb at the theaters?' And you say, 'Yeah, but we want you to spend twice as much on this one anyway to get everyone back.'"
So while Black didn't entirely shoot down the idea, it seems like it's an extremely long shot that fans are ever treated to The Nice Guys 2. But keep your fingers crossed, because the idea even being mentioned nine years later is a positive, at least.
The Nice Guys earned an impressive 91 percent critic score from Rotten Tomatoes, while picking up a 79 percent rating on the fan-focused Popcornmeter.Ryan Gosling Fan-Favorite Movie 'The Nice Guys' Gets Long-Awaited Sequel Update first appeared on Men's Journal on Jun 14, 2025

Jon Stewart Supports Friend Stephen Colbert Through CBS Cancellation

Welcome to Best of Late Night, a rundown of the previous night's highlights that lets you sleep — and lets us get paid to watch comedy. Here are the 50 best movies on Netflix right now. Too Little, Too Late? On Monday, late night hosts responded to the news that 'The Late Show' will end next May. Stephen Colbert gratefully acknowledged the outpouring of support he'd received since the announcement last Thursday, while also lamenting the grief and anger fans have been expressing. 'Folks, I'm going to go ahead and say it: Cancel culture has gone too far,' Colbert said, keeping a comical bent. 'I want to thank everybody who reached out to me over the weekend, including one text from an unknown number offering a high-paying I.T. work-from-home job for only two to three hours a day. Yes, I am very interested, and I will be sending you my routing number in May. Daddy needs a job.' — STEPHEN COLBERT Both Colbert and his friend Jon Stewart offered a similarly expletive-laden response to CBS, while the latter admitted he is 'certainly not the most objective to comment on this matter.' Stewart reminisced about his shared history with Colbert on 'The Daily Show' back before Comedy Central launched 'The Colbert Report' as a successful spinoff. 'We were two pretty good-sized fish in a reasonably small basic cable pond. Both of our shows reached an inflection point in 2015. Stephen chose to challenge himself by seeing if he could succeed the legendary David Letterman in, quite frankly, a much bigger pond than the one he and I had been swimming in, and I quit.' — JON STEWART 'And, if I may, watching Stephen exceed all expectations in the role, and become the No. 1 late night show on network television, has been an undeniable great pleasure for me as a viewer and as his friend.' — JON STEWART 'Now, I acknowledge, losing money, late-night TV is a struggling financial model. We are all basically operating a Blockbuster kiosk inside of a Tower Records. But when your industry is faced with changes, you don't just call it a day. My God! When CDs stopped selling, they didn't just go, 'Oh, well, music, it's been a good run.' — JON STEWART 'Well, over the weekend, somebody at CBS followed up their gracious press release with a gracious anonymous leak, saying they pulled the plug on our show because of losses pegged between $40 million and $50 million a year. Forty million's a big number. I could see us losing $24 million, but where would Paramount have possibly spent the other $16 million … oh, yeah.' — STEPHEN COLBERT, referring to the $16 million Paramount agreed to pay President Trump to settle a lawsuit 'I believe CBS lost the benefit of the doubt two weeks prior, when they sold out their flagship news program to pay an extortion fee to said president. At that time, poor Andy Rooney must have been rolling over in his bed. That's right, he's alive. Andy Rooney is alive.' — JON STEWART 'So here's the point: If you're trying to figure out why Stephen's show is ending, I don't think the answer can be found in some smoking gun email or phone call from Trump to CBS executives, or in CBS's QuickBooks spreadsheets on the financial health of late night. I think the answer in the fear and pre-compliance that is gripping all of America's institutions at this very moment — institutions that have chosen not to fight the vengeful and vindictive actions of our pubic hair-doodling commander in chief. This is not the moment to give in. I'm not giving in! I'm not going anywhere — I think.' — JON STEWART 'And now, for the next 10 months, the gloves are off. Yeah! I can finally — I can finally speak unvarnished truth to power and say what I really think about Donald Trump, starting right now: I don't care for him. Doesn't seem to have, like, the skill set. Doesn't have the skill set to be president. You know, just not a good fit. That's all.' — STEPHEN COLBERT The Punchiest Punchlines (Bawdy Birthday Card Edition) Want all of The Times? Subscribe.

8 things to know about the first-ever Tesla Diner

Tesla has just opened its first-ever diner, in Hollywood, California, as part of a themed Supercharger station. As it welcomed its first visitors on Monday night, the automaker released a video offering a look inside the Tesla Diner. What's the theme? The Tesla Diner combines 1950s American drive-in diner aesthetics with a super-modern Tesla-inspired interior, creating a blend of nostalgia and innovation. At least, that's the aim. Recommended Videos Where is it? The Tesla Diner is located at 7001 Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood, Los Angeles, about a 20-minute stroll from Hollywood's legendary Walk of Fame. I live nowhere near! Will Tesla open a diner near me? Perhaps. Musk revealed on Monday that if the Tesla Diner proves popular, it could build more of them at Supercharger locations in major cities around the world as well as along popular long-distance routes. I don't have a Tesla. Can I still go to the Tesla Diner? Of course. The diner offers 80 Tesla V4 Superchargers, enabling Tesla vehicle owners, or indeed any EV owner with a compatible connector, to recharge their vehicles while enjoying food and entertainment. And anyone in the vicinity can drop by the diner — EV or no EV. Is there an Elon Burger on the menu? Certainly not. Well, not yet, anyway. There is, however, a Tesla Burger ($13.50) along with diner favorites such as hot dogs ($13), egg sandwiches ($12), hash brown bites ($8), and grilled cheese ($9), and a range of drinks, too. In another Tesla-inspired twist, the food is served in containers based on the Cybertruck design: What are those two massive screens in the parking lot? The Tesla Diner features two 45-foot LED screens for a drive-in movie experience, with audio and video synced directly to Tesla car's touchscreen so that you can enjoy the entertainment seamlessly. You can also watch presentations from the Skypad, the diner's rooftop terrace. Expect to see short films, and probably some ads, too. For Tesla EVs. Is the Tesla Bot serving customers? Tesla's humanoid robot Optimus has indeed been seen serving (popcorn), showing off Tesla's integration of robotics and automation within the venue. However, it's not yet clear if it's going to be a regular part of the serving team. But the robot also on display (switched off!), so look out for it. Otherwise it's all human staff, some of them on roller-skates. Hang on, why has Tesla even opened a diner? It was the idea of its CEO, Elon Musk, who said back in 2019 that he wanted to 'put an old-school drive-in, roller skates and rock restaurant at one of the new Tesla Supercharger locations in LA.' Essentially, it's an effort to make the charging experience more fun — instead of just a routine stop.

Bill Cosby Breaks Silence on TV Son's Shock Death

Bill Cosby has compared the shock death of his TV son Malcolm-Jamal Warner to that of his own son Ennis. Warner, 54, drowned accidentally in Costa Rica on Sunday. The actor, who played Theo Huxtable in The Cosby Show, was swimming when a current pulled him deeper into the water. Andrew Wyatt, Bill Cosby's long-term publicist, told the Daily Beast the pair had spoken only recently and that Cosby was 'devastated' by the loss. 'Bill Cosby never stopped being a father to all the kids on the show, including Malcolm,' Wyatt said. 'Mr Cosby spoke to Malcolm around three or four weeks ago, Malcolm was telling him about a show he had done in Minneapolis and what a great response he got from the audience.' Cosby, who turned 88 earlier this month, 'Wanted everyone to know Malcolm was still humanizing the world. His legacy will be how he humanized the world. He manifested so much greatness.' The tragedy also took Cosby back to the death of his only son, Ennis, who was murdered in 1997 in a failed robbery attempt. He was 27. Cosby had based the Theo Huxtable character on Ennis, including a storyline where Theo struggled with dyslexia, which mirrored Ennis' life. 'When I told him about Malcolm's death he said it reminded him of getting the call on the set of The Cosby Show in 1997 that his son Ennis had been murdered,' Wyatt said. 'Malcolm and Ennis used to play together, they were great friends, so this is obviously devastating for Mr Cosby. He is so shocked by what's happened, he's still in disbelief.' Wyatt added that The Cosby Show, 'is probably the only show in the history of television in America where the child actors didn't end up on drugs. It was a family environment.' The Cosby Show's family image was tainted after 60 women accused Bill Cosby of sexual assault, groping and rape. Cosby has always maintained his innocence. While he was convicted of sexual assault in 2018 and went to jail for two years, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned the case in 2021. Warner told People in 2023, 'I know I can speak for all of the cast when I say The Cosby Show is something that we are still very proud of.' Addressing the controversy around Cosby, Warner added, 'Regardless of how some people may feel about the show now, I'm still proud of the legacy and having been a part of such an iconic show that had such a profound impact on – first and foremost, Black culture – but also American culture." As well as his acting work in shows including The Resident, Ten Days in the Valley and American Crime Story: The People v O.J. Simpson, Warner was also a director and a musician. As a poet, he was nominated for Best Spoken Word Poetry Album at the 2022 Grammy Awards. Warner won a Grammy in 2015 for Best Traditional R&B Performance for 'Jesus Children', his collaboration with Robert Glasper Experiment and Lalah Hathaway.
