Moment teen knifeman shot dead by police at airport as tourists threatened
An 18-year-old man was filmed in a horror airport rampage where he threatened tourists with a knife before being shot dead by police.
Holidaymakers watched on in horror as the man from Gambia was shot five times by Spanish police at Gran Canaria airport last Saturday afternoon. Onlookers described the man as appearing out of his mind as he tried to rob a taxi driver and then lunged at a police officer before they fired at him.
Footage shows tourists at the airport running for cover as shots rang out. Other clips show the knifeman running at one of the five National Police officers trying to intercept him who fell to the ground and then afterwards people looked on in horror at what had happened after the man had been shot. One woman could be heard shouting: "My God you've killed him" while officers tried to keep a crowd back.
He was shot as he tried to attack officers who appeared to be warning him to stop. Court officials have confirmed one of the five bullets the teenager received hit him in the neck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
CCTV footage of the incident, which unfolded just before 5pm on Saturday, is being analysed by an investigating judge based in the Gran Canaria town of Telde. Overnight it emerged the unnamed aggressor had tried to board a flight to Gambia before going on the rampage, but was turned back after airport workers saw his ticket was for a plane due to take off on May 22.
He is said to have tried to force his way through airport control after being intercepted, setting off a scanner because of the knife he was carrying in his rucksack. Ibon Dominguez, a spokesman for police union Jupol, has described the response of the officers who tackled the knifeman as 'proportional and congruent.'
He said: 'The man with the knife could easily have ended the lives of one of those policemen.' The Canary Islands High Court of Justice said in its first full statement on the incident: 'A duty court in Telde has been investigating the circumstances in which a person who was shot by the police died on Saturday in the airport area.
'At the moment the court is compiling the images of the multiple camera recordings from outside and inside the airport in order to establish a reconstruction of the events.
'The man was shot five times, including once in the neck. The videos show that the deceased was apparently out of his mind and carrying a large knife and after attacking a taxi driver he felled a police officer and tried to knock down another, and was wandering around armed in an area with a large number of people, creating a real danger for their physical integrity. He was 18 years old.'

Evil couple kill 12-year-old daughter by drugging and suffocating her
A cruel couple told police their daughter had disappeared from their family home - but it became clear they'd drugged and suffocated her, leaving her for dead on a country road To the outside world, they looked like the perfect family - Rosario Porto and her husband Alfonso Basterra were in their mid-30s when they adopted a baby girl. According to The Guardian, Punto, a lawyer from Santiago de Compostela, northern Spain, and Basterra, a journalist from the Basque Country, had had no trouble persuading local Spanish authorities that they would make good parents. The wealthy Spanish couple adopted Asunta Fong Yang as a baby, but when she was just 12 years old, she was found dead beside a country road. At first, things were great - Asunta was so bright she skipped an academic year, and the family's privilege meant she could enjoy private classes in English, French, Chinese, ballet, violin, and piano. 'She once told us what her Saturdays were like,' Asunta's ballet teacher, an English woman named Gail Brevitt, recalled. 'She got up at 7 am, did Chinese from 8 until 10, came to ballet from 10.15 to 12.30, then did French until lunchtime. And then there was violin and piano.' To the outside world, everything looked like a dream. Carmen González, the family's cleaner and nanny, said: 'To me they seemed an idyllic family." But behind closed doors, things were far from perfect. In 2009, Porto spent two nights in a private psychiatric hospital, saying she felt suicidal, apathetic, and guilty. Then, in 2013, she and Basterra divorced after Porto lost both her parents in the preceding 18 months and admitted to having an affair. Despite their struggles, no one suspected they were capable of murdering the child they had adopted. But on September 22, 2013, Rosario Porto and Alfonso Basterra reported Asunta missing. The police record noted that Asunta had been left at her mother's apartment doing her homework at 7 pm while Porto went to the family's country house 20 minutes away. Even though there was no physical evidence, such as fingerprints or fibres, linking Porto to the girl's corpse, the police had CCTV evidence from a camera at a petrol station near her apartment. The footage showed Porto driving the family's car towards their country house with a long-haired girl sitting beside her. The timecode revealed the footage had been taken at a time when, according to Porto's versions of events, Asunta was meant to be at home. When shown the video, Porto admitted the passenger was her daughter, but claimed Asunta felt ill and was later taken home. But police noted that when they had taken her to the country house hours after the body was found, the mum rushed towards a room that contained a wastepaper basket with bits of orange baler twine inside. The twine was similar to some found next to the body, which, investigators concluded, must have been used to tie Asunta's limbs together. However, forensic scientists were unable to prove bits found on the corpse came from the house. In addition to the CCTV footage, forensic results suggested Asunta had been drugged and then smothered. Tests of Asunta's blood and urine revealed toxic levels of lorazepam – the main active ingredient in the Orfidal pills that Porto had been prescribed to help with her anxiety attacks. Meanwhile, teachers at two music academies recalled that in the months before her death, Asunta had been unable to read her sheet music or walk straight. 'I took some white powders,' she told Isabel Bello, who ran one of the academies. 'I don't know what they are giving me. No one tells me the truth,' she complained to a violin teacher. Forensic scientists tested a strand of Asunta's hair and discovered the presence of lorazepam along the first three centimetres and concluded she had also been ingesting smaller doses of the drug for three months. Investigators believed Porto murdered Asunta, but she wouldn't have been able to lift the body alone, as she was slight and only 4ft 8in tall. In October 2015, the prosecution laid out its case before a jury, claiming the couple devised a plan to kill their own daughter – though they eventually downgraded the charges against Basterra, saying he was an accomplice to his ex-wife's murder plot. Asunta, the jury was told, had somehow been made to swallow at least 27 ground-up pills – nine times as powerful as a strong adult dose – on the day she died. The judge handed Basterra and Porto 18-year sentences, as the crime was committed before a new law introduced life sentences for child murderers. Both have appealed to have their convictions overturned.

Famous chef dumped boyfriend's body parts all over holiday resort to hide sick murder

Daniel Sancho Bronchalo, 31, confessed to murdering his plastic surgeon boyfriend, Edwin Arrieta Arteaga, on a Thai party island. The shamed chef also admitted to dismembering Dr Arteaga's body last August when their argument over "sex and money" reached a boiling point. It comes after a woman, 20, was found dead on bus with 26 iPhones glued to her body. The couple had been holidaying in Koh Pha Ngnan - known for its all-night Full Moon Parties - when the crime took place. Police discovered parts of Arteaga's body at a landfill in Koh Phangan in early August 2024. Around the same time, Bronchalo went to the police to report that Dr Arteaga, 44, was missing. Bronchalo, the son of two Spanish film stars, initially claimed at his trial that the two had a fight after Dr Arteaga allegedly attempted to sexually assault him. He then alleged that the Colombian surgeon fell as the fight escalated, hitting his head on a bathtub before losing consciousness and dying. Bronchalo had denied premeditated murder - but then confessed to chillingly dismembering Dr Arteaga's body and throwing his lifeless remains into the sea. He led police to seven sites around the island, where he disposed of Dr Arteagae's body in plastic bags. CCTV footage obtained by police showed the chef buying a knife, rubber gloves, waste bags, and cleaning chemicals at a convenience store prior to Arrieta's death, which prosecutors argued strengthened the claim of premeditated murder. According to the police, Bronchalo then confessed to the murder and stated that he planned it because Dr Arteaga threatened to disgrace him and his family by revealing their sexual relationship. The shamed YouTube chef was sentenced to life in prison. Initially, he was given the death penalty, but the Koh Samui provincial court decided to give him a life sentence instead due to his co-operation during the trial, according to local police officer Paisan Sangthep. Bronchalo initially also received a four-month prison sentence for concealing or damaging a body, but this was reduced to two months as he admitted to the horrific act. He as also ordered to pay 4 million baht (£89,000) in damages to Dr Arteaga's family. Daniel Sancho Bronchalo is the son of renowned Spanish actors Rodolfo Sancho Aguirre and Silvia Bronchalo, both 50. They were present at the Koh Samui Provincial Court where their son was sentenced last summer. Bronchalo's case caused a stir in Spain, and HBO has produced a Spanish-language documentary based on the chilling events. Last August, it was reported that the chef had dismembered his lover's body into 14 separate pieces, packed them into a suitcase, and then kayaked out into the sea to scatter them. Body parts were also scattered around the island. Local residents found Mr Arteaga's remains - including his hips and thighs - in a rubbish tip on the island, according to the police. Police Lieutenant General Surapong Thanomjit said at the time: "The suspect has confessed to being the one who killed Edwin Arrieta Arteaga and dismembered the body. "He put the parts in a suitcase and left them in the sea. He claimed that the victim was angry when he refused to sleep with him. Then he punched him in the head, causing him to fall over and hit the bathtub, so he cut the body to disguise the death. Investigators found traces of the victim's body in the hotel room the suspect booked." The famous chef had filed a missing persons report for Edwin following the murder.
