DJ Akademiks responds to Twitch ban after grooming controversy

Express Tribune29-01-2025
DJ Akademiks, whose real name is Livingston Allen, has addressed his recent ban from Twitch, stating that he is working with the platform to resolve the issue. The ban, which took effect on January 28, 2025, follows controversy surrounding his interaction with a 15-year-old streamer, NourGXD, during a January 23 broadcast.
Acknowledging Twitch's decision, Akademiks stated, 'Twitch took some action because even though I wasn't streaming, that happened on their platform. Completely get it. We will work with Twitch and make it right, okay?' Despite the suspension, he confirmed that he will continue streaming on alternative platforms, including Rumble, Meta, and YouTube, where he claims the majority of his audience is based.
Akademiks asserted that the matter was settled and dismissed ongoing discussions. He also rejected speculation of major fallout, insisting that his sponsorships remain intact. 'Happy Dad is still right here, make sure you all go get the grape version. Stake supports us on Twitter. Nothing has changed there,' he said, pointing to continued backing from brands.
While addressing the ban, he emphasized that he respects Twitch's enforcement policies. 'Twitch, respect their platform, and you also have to respect their rules. And also, when they take enforcement action, you can't get mad,' he added.
The controversy has drawn criticism from various figures, including FaZe Clan's Plaqueboymax. However, despite the Twitch ban, Akademiks is doubling down on his presence across other platforms, reaffirming his commitment to content creation.

Jynxzi's Twitch account hacked and briefly banned before quick recovery

Popular Twitch streamer Jynxzi, known for his Rainbow Six Siege gameplay and massive online following, was briefly banned from Twitch on July 17, 2025, after his account was hacked. The incident sent shockwaves through the gaming community as fans tried to understand what went wrong. With over 7.5 million Twitch followers and nearly 5 million YouTube subscribers, Jynxzi is one of the most recognizable names in streaming. His recent collaboration with fellow creator IShowSpeed on an upcoming Fortnite tournament with a $100,000 prize pool had further solidified his standing in esports entertainment. The chaos began around 3:39 PM when Jynxzi's Twitch account was suddenly banned. Twitch cited 'hacking and platform manipulation' as the reason for the action, listing offenses such as DDoS, phishing, and exploits in its policy. A message from Twitch mentioned: 'Due to the severe nature of this violation... your access to Twitch services is indefinitely restricted.' Jynxzi quickly responded via (formerly Twitter): Just got banned on Twitch temporarily because someone hacked into my account Hopefully we can return today. — Jynxzi (@jynxzi) July 17, 2025 Roughly 30 minutes later, Twitch reversed the ban, allowing Jynxzi to resume streaming. The identity of the hacker remains unknown, and it's unclear how the breach occurred. This event reignited conversations around Twitch account security and the vulnerability of high-profile streamers. While Jynxzi's channel remains intact, the incident is a stark reminder that even top-tier creators face cybersecurity risks.

Is Israel the real villain in Gunn's 'Superman'?

James Gunn's Superman may have opened to a heroic USD220 million at the global box office, but much of the conversation surrounding the film has been less about capes and more about geopolitics. The film's depiction of a fictional war between two nations — Bovaria and Jarhanpur — has triggered a firestorm of commentary online, with political influencers accusing the film of being a veiled allegory for the Israel's genocide in Palestine. In the film, Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor sparks a violent confrontation between the two nations. Superman intervenes as Bovaria, portrayed as the aggressor, attempts to invade its defenceless neighbour. Since its release, commentators across the ideological divide have taken to social media and YouTube to dissect what they see — or don't see — as an unmistakable parallel. Twitch streamer and left-wing political influencer Hasan Piker described the film as "two hours and like 10 minutes of f—k Israel the entire time," calling any denial of allegory "a lie." His viral video has since gained traction among pro-Palestinian voices online, many of whom hail the film as a bold and timely critique of Israel's recent military operations in Gaza. On the opposite end of the political spectrum, conservative pundit Ben Shapiro dismissed the entire debate. "Only those with a left-wing brain would try to read this as a Gaza allegory," he said in a rebuttal, adding that the film "does not match up to the facts" of Israeli military actions and accusing viewers of "inventing a political agenda." As per Variety, the film's perceived message has fractured audiences, with headlines asking, "Is the new Superman movie anti-Israel?" and "Is the new Superman movie about the Israel-Hamas war?" proliferating across digital platforms. Gunn himself addressed the speculation in an interview with The Times of London prior to the film's release. "When I wrote this the Middle Eastern conflict wasn't happening," he said, referring to his completed script in May 2023 — several months before the current escalation in Gaza. "It's an invasion by a much more powerful country run by a despot into a country — [that] has totally no defence against the other country. It really is fictional," he explained. That disclaimer, however, has done little to contain the swirl of online discourse. The controversy arrives on the heels of earlier right-wing backlash, after Gunn referred to Superman as "an immigrant" — prompting accusations of "SuperWoke" politics from outlets like Fox News. Even the White House waded in with a tongue-in-cheek jab, photoshopping Donald Trump onto Superman's body in a mock poster touting "the American Way." At the LA premiere, Gunn's brother and actor Sean Gunn defended the filmmaker. "Yes, Superman is an immigrant, and yes, the people that we support in this country are immigrants," he said. "If you don't like that, you're not American." Superman is now playing in cinemas worldwide.

Top5 undergoes surgery after UK stabbing, DJ Akademiks shares an update

Canadian rapper Top5 is recovering after undergoing surgery following a stabbing incident in the United Kingdom over the weekend. The attack reportedly took place after he attended Drake's headlining performance at the Wireless Festival. DJ Akademiks provided details about the incident and Top5's condition during a recent Instagram livestream. 'Top5 is good,' Akademiks said. 'He has like a big laceration. It was kinda deep. He lost a lot of blood. He went through the surgery and he's gonna have a full recovery. It's gonna take a little while.' DJ Akademiks Gives Full Details On Toronto Rapper Top5 Getting Stabbed In London, Saying He Has Spoken With Top5 & That He Will Recover Fully While Describing His Injuries, Says The Incident Was NOT Done By Anyone From The UK & Debunks The False Footage #Akademiks #Top5 — Real1Of1TV (@Real1of1TV) July 15, 2025 According to Akademiks, the wound was approximately 17 inches long. He suggested that the attack may have been an attempted murder, noting, 'Somebody definitely tried to kill him.' Akademiks also addressed speculation circulating online. He refuted claims that a video allegedly showing the stabbing was genuine and clarified that the individual in the footage was not Top5. The rapper reportedly told Akademiks that he was separated from his group when the attack occurred. While taking a photo with a fan outside a club, Top5 said he believed he was followed and was ultimately ambushed. Akademiks further distanced the attack from broader UK-related tensions. 'This has got nothing to do with the U.K. Respectfully, it did happen in the U.K., but it's some whole other sh*t,' he said, adding that false narratives were being pushed online. Top5 had previously streamed comments suggesting 'there are no real killers in London,' which some speculated might have incited the attack—claims Akademiks firmly rejected.
