Leclerc on top for Ferrari in final British practice
SILVERSTONE, England - Ferrari sent McLaren a reminder of their pace in final practice for the British Grand Prix on Saturday with Charles Leclerc fastest.
The Monaco-born driver lapped the Silverstone circuit on an overcast, gusty and much cooler afternoon than Friday with a best time of one minute 25.498 seconds.
McLaren's Formula One championship leader Oscar Piastri was second quickest, 0.068 seconds slower, with Red Bull's Max Verstappen third.
The session was twice red flagged, once when Oliver Bearman's Haas shed some bodywork and in the final seconds when Gabriel Bortoleto spun on a kerb and bounced across the grass with the car's front left suspension smashed.
The final stoppage put paid to anyone trying to improve on Leclerc's time, including Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton who ended up only 11th.
Hamilton had been quicker than Leclerc in the first two sectors before aborting the final one after the red flags were waved as a result of Bearman's debris on track.
McLaren's Lando Norris, 15 points adrift of Piastri after 11 of 24 rounds, was fourth fastest with Red Bull's Yuki Tsunoda fifth.

Bearman, who ended up sixth, crashed in a bizarre accident at the end while entering the pitlane -- smashing the nose and front wing when he hit the barriers and blaming cold brakes.
Alex Albon was seventh for Williams, ahead of Mercedes' George Russell, Racing Bulls' Isack Hadjar and teammate Liam Lawson completing the top 10.
Aston Martin said neither of their drivers had managed to do a representative lap on the fastest soft tyre due to the red flags.
Qualifying for Sunday's race, Hamilton's first at home in Ferrari colours, follows later in the afternoon.

Drama off the track at British GP continues to intrigue
On the surface, the British Grand Prix was all about the ongoing fight for the World Championship between Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, as McLaren's extraordinary domination of F1 continued round the very fast track in Northamptonshire. They had been upstaged in qualifying by Red Bull's Max Verstappen, partly thanks to a low-drag rear wing last used in Suzuka earlier in the season, and partly due to the world champion's extraordinary skill. But when the rain came at the start, Verstappen was pretty quicky doomed. After early Virtual Safety Car interventions, when things finally got going Piastri slipped ahead and opened a 14.4 second lead – until race director Rui Marques deemed that the actual Safety Car should be deployed to slow the cars down as there was too much standing water. The fact that Isack Hadjar crashed his RB into the back of Kimi Antonelli's Mercedes as soon as the track went green again suggested that Marques had done the right thing initially, since visibility was still poor.

Nissan to sell 150 billion yen convertible bonds for recovery
[TOKYO] Nissan Motor plans to sell 150 billion yen (S$1.3 billion) of convertible bonds to help fund new chief executive officer Ivan Espinosa's turnaround of the ailing automaker. The proceeds will be used for investment in new products and technologies such as electrification and software-defined vehicles, the Japanese carmaker said on Monday (Jul 7). The company, which is facing a huge loan repayment wall next year, is seeking to raise more than one trillion yen from debt and asset sales to keep operations on track, Bloomberg News reported in May. The stock fell the most in almost three months after the convertible bond sale was announced. The shares fell as much as 5.2 per cent in Tokyo, before paring some of the losses to be down around 3 per cent at 1.04 pm local time. The stock has tumbled about 40 per cent in the past 12 months. Nissan has sufficient capital of about 2.2 trillion yen in cash on hand and credit to last the next 12 to 18 months, Espinosa told Bloomberg TV in May. The new CEO has announced plans to eliminate 20,000 jobs and close seven of Nissan's 17 plants by March 2028 after the company reported a 671 billion yen net loss for the most recent fiscal year. The measures follow the collapse of talks earlier this year to join forces with Honda Motor. Those discussions ended in part due to disagreements about Nissan's willingness to make deeper cuts to production and personnel. BLOOMBERG

Nissan considers Foxconn EV output to save Oppama from closure: report
[TOKYO] Nissan Motor is in discussions with Taiwan's Foxconn over electric vehicle (EV) collaboration that could save its Oppama plant in Japan from closure, the Nikkei business daily reported on Sunday (Jul 6), citing an unidentified Nissan source. Nissan's Oppama plant, which employs about 3,900 workers, has been a potential consolidation target in the struggling Japanese carmaker's restructuring plans, but the idea of producing Foxconn-brand EVs at its idle assembly lines could preserve jobs and supplier networks, the Nikkei said. A statement from Nissan said the report was not based on information released by the company itself. A Foxconn spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment. In May, Nissan's junior partner Mitsubishi Motors, signed a memorandum of understanding with a Foxconn subsidiary to supply Mitsubishi with an EV model. REUTERS
