Manchester Airport opens redeveloped Terminal 2 with new shops and restaurants
The opening saw six new shops and restaurants added to the terminal, including LEGO, Rituals and Pandora, which opened their first units at the airport.
If you're looking to enjoy a bite to eat or drinks before your flight, you can also visit Starbucks, Upper Crust and Joe & The Juice.
Manchester Airport opens redeveloped Terminal 2 departure lounge
The opening marks the latest milestone in the 10-year, £1.3bn transformation of Terminal 2, which will more than double the terminal's size.
An extension to the terminal opened in 2021, and the airport is now in the final stages of overhauling the original Terminal 2 building to bring it up to the same standard as the extension.
More than 70% of the airport's passengers will use the new facilities, and Terminal 1 is set to close when the project is completed later this year.

Further shops and restaurants are expected to open later this year, including Chanel, Grindsmith by WH Smith, a Fever Tree cocktail and champagne bar, and the Great Northern Market – a food court with a selection of street food options.

The finalised terminal will also include 13 new flexible aircraft stands and boarding gates, currently under construction.
A passageway linking the new security hall with the departure lounge will feature a chandelier installation, paying homage to the much-loved Venetian chandeliers that graced Terminal 1 in the 1980s and 1990s.
More than 30 million passengers have already travelled through the terminal extension since it opened in 2021, and last year it claimed a UNESCO-backed Prix Versailles award recognising its outstanding design.

We'll use ROE to examine Kier Group plc (LON:KIE), by way of a worked example. Return on Equity or ROE is a test of how effectively a company is growing its value and managing investors' money. The formula for ROE is: Return on Equity = Net Profit (from continuing operations) ÷ Shareholders' Equity So, based on the above formula, the ROE for Kier Group is: 10% = UK£52m ÷ UK£498m (Based on the trailing twelve months to December 2024). The 'return' refers to a company's earnings over the last year. One way to conceptualize this is that for each £1 of shareholders' capital it has, the company made £0.10 in profit. The Importance Of Debt To Return On Equity Most companies need money -- from somewhere -- to grow their profits. That cash can come from retained earnings, issuing new shares (equity), or debt. In the case of the first and second options, the ROE will reflect this use of cash, for growth. In the latter case, the debt required for growth will boost returns, but will not impact the shareholders' equity. That will make the ROE look better than if no debt was used. Kier Group's Debt And Its 10% ROE It's worth noting the high use of debt by Kier Group, leading to its debt to equity ratio of 2.18. With a fairly low ROE, and significant use of debt, it's hard to get excited about this business at the moment. Debt does bring extra risk, so it's only really worthwhile when a company generates some decent returns from it. Summary Return on equity is one way we can compare its business quality of different companies. Companies that can achieve high returns on equity without too much debt are generally of good quality. If two companies have the same ROE, then I would generally prefer the one with less debt. But when a business is high quality, the market often bids it up to a price that reflects this. The rate at which profits are likely to grow, relative to the expectations of profit growth reflected in the current price, must be considered, too.
